The term rustic is buzzing in
the wedding industry, as brides
incorporate a modern and
traditional mix into their wedding events. But what exactly
does the word signify?
Rustic means vintage and can include all
aspects of your wedding – dress, tuxedo,
venue, food, photography and more.
DRESS AND DÉCOR
While searching for a rustic-style dress,
consider color, fit and how it will flow
with the attire of the wedding party. A
classic off-white gown with lace and
other minor touches can be a home run
if you’re going for that timeless, romantically natural look.
You can also weave the details of your
wedding dress into your reception. Tie in
the color of your gown with the tablecloths or include a strand of lace on the
table markers. Going with a bouquet of
subtly colored tulips? Display vases with
tulips as centerpieces on some tables.
VENUE
Sometimes the least conventional venues
make for the best rustic weddings. The
more nature, the better, since trees and
rolling hills offer the perfect backdrop
for a unique and beautiful event. Search
your local area for unique outdoor sites
that specialize in weddings.
“…consider every detail
and ask yourself, ‘How
can I make this rustic?’”
But be prepared to shell out a pretty
penny for these inclusive setups, which
generally host only about 10 to 15 weddings per year. Seating may also be an
issue for some intimate outdoor venues,
impossible if you’re inviting hundreds
of guests.
DETAILS
A strategically designed set of save-thedates, invitations and place cards. Strings
of glowing lanterns strewn from the
border of your reception pavilion. Sepiatoned photographs of your wedding
party that seemingly place your event
back far in the past.
All these details have one factor in
common—they scream rustic. Pulling
these details into one event can beautifully convey your vintage theme. When
planning your wedding, consider every
detail and ask yourself, “How can I make
this rustic?”

Right Hairstyle
Choosing the
When choosing that perfect hairstyle for your special day, there
are plenty of things to consider. Your hair will define you as a
bride, so your selection must be considered carefully.
Thankfully, whether you are going for
elegant and traditional, or totally unique,
the possibilities are virtually endless.
MATCH THE DRESS
It is important to be consistent with
your overall bridal attire, so picking a
hairstyle that compliments your dress is
key. A simple gown would be outshined
by an overly complicated hairstyle, so
stick with something sleek, such as a
knotted bun.
“…make sure you get
exactly what you want
on your big day.”
Finger or Marcel type waves are also
an excellent choice if you are looking
for timeless simplicity. If your dress is
more intricate, bouncy spiral curls or an
elaborate up-do may be better suited for
your look.
FACE SHAPE
Keep in mind that every hairstyle is not
flattering on everyone. Consider your
face shape and features.
Stay away from styles that may look
harsh from certain angles.
A modern tousled up-do can be achieved
with hair of many different lengths and
textures and can compliment any bride’s
appearance.
If your hair is too short for this, add
some elegance with accessories. Veils,
tiaras and decorative hair pins can transform even the simplest of styles into the
look of your dreams.
EXPERT WORK
Make sure you book your appointment
with a trusted or well-reputed hairdresser with plenty of time before your
wedding to allow time for any changes
or adjustments.
Discuss in detail how you want to look
to ensure they have a full understanding.
Bringing in photos can help the stylist
visualize your dream hair, and make sure
you get exactly what you want on your
big day.

Perfect Dress
FINDING THE
Whether you’re deliberating over necklines, beading detail, or train length, wedding dress shopping
can be one of the most exciting and overwhelming parts of the wedding planning process.
Remember that the experience is supposed to be fun, so follow our tips below
to ensure your trip to the bridal shop is
as productive as it is enjoyable.
BRING IDEAS & PICTURES
Magazine cutouts, sketches and notes –
whatever details you can bring on paper
will help your bridal expert gain a clear
vision of your dress wants and needs.
Before your dress shopping appointment,
browse bridal magazines and websites
for an idea of what dress styles and
designers you’d like to try on. Gather
magazine cutouts, sketches and notes.
Organize your documents into a bridal
folder beforehand so you can explain
your goals in a concise, organized way.
Bring the folder with you – whatever details
you assembled on paper will help your
bridal expert understand how you want
to look on your wedding day.
Start fresh
Before try on wedding dresses, be sure
you’re face is makeup-free and your body
is free of self-tanning lotions or sprays.
“Be open to various
recommendations as you
work through the process.”
Bridal shop owners work hard to keep
their sample dresses as clean as possible
for their clients, so it’s important for all
brides to do their part in keeping the
gowns stain-free.
Minimize the Audience
One of the major mistakes a bride can
make is too many friends and family
members at her dress appointment.
The larger your audience is, the more the
chance of encountering clashing opinions
—which can ultimately skew your own
thoughts on the dress you choose.
A sensible rule of thumb is to bring
three or four individuals who you feel
will have your best wedding dress interests at heart.
BRING HONESTY
If there are certain styles or budgets that
you just won’t consider, be honest with
your consultant. Maybe you’re intimidated and nervous about the experience as a
whole. The more information and feelings you can share early in the process,
the better help your consultant can be.
Bring your accessories
If you’ve already purchased your bridal
shoes, take them to your appointment.
Otherwise, bring pumps with same heel
height you anticipate buying.
Having the right shoes will help you
visualize where and how the hemline
will fall.
If you plan any shapewear pieces under
your dress, bring those as well so you can
see how sleekly the dress will drape.
Keep an open mind
Trust your bridal expert. This is likely
not the consultant’s first time guiding a
bride-to-be through the dress decision.
Be open to various recommendations as
you work through the process. You just
may end up selecting a style you hadn’t
previously envisioned.
It’s important to understand that wedding dresses are sewn and structured
differently from any other type of dress
you’ve worn in the past. So, it’s a good
idea to try on as many styles as possible.
If you think a certain dress style hasn’t
flattered your body type previously, that
doesn’t mean that same style won’t look
stunning on you in wedding dress form.
Don’t be afraid to think out of the box
and experiment.
There’s no mistaking how the wedding
gown is one of the most significant
pieces a bride will buy for her wedding.
When it’s time to shop for your dress,
remember the only person you need to
please is yourself.
If you feel comfortable, beautiful and
like the star of the day, your wedding will
supply you with many happy memories
for years to come.
P
The Dress
WHAT TO DO WITH
Ah, the wedding dress. So many hours of
research, fitting and re-fitting for only a
few hours of glory.
away and forgetting about it can lead
to a ragged, faded garment after only a
short time.
“Should you keep it…
or let it go?”
If you have no future plans to give your
dress to a family member or friend, why
not donate it to charity?
But once your special day is over, deciding what to do with the gown can be a
difficult choice for many brides. Should
you keep it stored away as a memento of
your wedding day or let it go?
Organizations such as Brides Against
Breast Cancer use donated dresses to
stage their Nationwide Tour of Gowns
effort, which raises funds for cancer
patients and their families.
KEEP IT
Check with your local charitable organizations or consignment shops to
determine if there is a need for donated
dresses in your area.
If deciding to keep your gown, it’s
important to determine why. Are you
hoping to one day hand over your dress
to your daughter? If so, placing the gown
in a basement, attic or back of the closet
may not be an ideal storage option.
Garment professionals recommend you
properly clean and store your gown for
optimal lifespan. Simply shutting it
DONATE IT
SELL IT
Another option for your gown is selling
it to recoup some of your own costs. This
may be a great option if the dress is very
valuable and if the company you bought
it from has a flexible buy-back program.
There are a variety of options online for
selling your gown. Many companies buy
and sell pre-owned wedding dresses. Just
don’t expect to realize top-dollar from
these bargain services.
TRASH IT
As a final option that may be the most
fun, many brides are now scheduling
Trash-The-Dress photoshoots.
This event provides an opportunity for
some fun and beautiful photos in natural
settings. Ocean, stream, field and forest
are all excellent places to have the shoot.
Or, you can get a little crazy and engage
in a paint fight with your groom or
bridesmaids. However you choose to
trash your dress, make it fun!
Use caution while trashing your dress.
Wedding gowns often have a lot of
fabric and become very heavy when wet.
Use a spotter for safety if your shots are
in or near water.
Venues
Multi-Functional
Our Yamhill Valley is the ideal location for an outdoor wedding. Unless it is
rainy. Or windy. Or cold.
Come to think of it, Oregon can be a
downright perplexing place to throw a
seamless outdoor wedding celebration.
Fortunately, you’re smart enough to
be prepared for any climate curveballs
thrown your way.
The temperamental inconsistencies of
weather in the Yamhill Valley make
multi-functional venues perfect choices
for a bride-to-be. It may be best to opt
for a venue offering both indoor and
outdoor entertaining spaces.
WEATHER BENEFITS
The obvious benefit of having both
indoor and outdoor options is in case of
a predicted rainstorm. By keeping an eye
on the weather starting a couple weeks
before your big day, you can make an
informed decision on which portion of the
venue to decorate and for what purpose.
Many wedding planners suggest starting
your plans with an outdoor ceremony
before moving inside for the reception.
Your guests will be happy to sit through
chilled temperatures or a light drizzle
to witness you get married but may not
stick around in such conditions for a
late-night party.
COST
While the benefits are many for choosing a multi-functional venue, cost may
not be one of them. Renting both a
facility and an outdoor area can, in some
cases, double your venue expense.
Be sure to compare all options when
making your venue list. You may find a
company or organization that offers discounted costs for renting multiple parts
of its facilities.
If the more expensive location still tops
your list after some research, you may be
able to find other areas of your budget
that are more flexible.

CHOOSING A
Caterer
Even though methods for catering may be fairly similar, restuarants are not the same when it comes
to handling your wedding.
There are numerous factors that come
into play, ranging from cooking specialties to availability of resources.
Before deciding your final choice for
a caterer, make sure to ask the following questions—along with any others
specific to your wedding—to make sure
you find the one most reflective of your
nuptial needs.
Do you have a license?
Take care of this immediately, because
some venues will not allow an unlicensed
food operation on their sites.
What is your price range, and can I get a
quote on paper?
Making sure you have a written quote
will help resolve any confusion at payment time.
How many weddings have you catered for
in the past couple of years?
This answer may be one of the most
important, as you want to confirm
the company is experienced and up to
the challenge.
Are you specialized in a certain cooking
style or methodology?
This is crucial if you have chosen a specific type of food for your reception, such
as French cuisine or seafood.
Will you be providing chairs, silverware,
linens and equipment?
A “no” answer to any of these questions
could lead to higher costs for you and
more stress in trying to coordinate different vendors to supply these items.
Do you cater only one event per day?
You want to guarantee you have the full
attention of the organization and its staff
during your wedding.
Are you easy to contact if I have questions throughout the meal-planning
process?
Every caterer will surely answer ‘yes.’
A good follow-up request is for a list
of references, just to make sure you can
conduct your own research.
Do you also bake wedding cakes?
Having the same company handle
snacks, dinner and the cake means one
fewer vendor for you to find during the
planning stages.
