The Motor Vehicle Industry
With over 20 million private cars on the road in addition to commercial vehicles,
it is not surprising that over half a million people are employed in the motor
industry. Jobs vary from selling and servicing to repair and restoration, from
motor mechanics and auto engineers to spray paint service receptionists.
We are proud to be a locally owned and managed organisation with well
established links to local employers and a knowledge of the recruitment needs
of the area.

What are the entry requirements?
There are no minimum entry requirements for any of the apprenticeship
programmes but in order to succeed up to Level 3 it is likely that an apprentice
will be capable of achieving at least GCSE Grade C or above in Maths and
English. People do however enter apprenticeships with lower grades than this
and succeed. It is important that you have a strong interest in working with
vehicles and for, the practical aspects of the programme you will need a keen
interest in working with your hands in a job that can be physically demanding.
Apprentices are required to demonstrate that they can achieve a certain level
in Functional Skills. If you have not achieved this level at school Milltech can
help you to develop literacy and numeracy skills to the level needed in the
Motor Industry.
How can I apply to join an Apprenticeship programme with
Milltech?
Telephone us on 0191 5100414 and ask for an application form or you can call
in and pick one up. Connexions in Fawcett Street, Sunderland also have copies
of our application forms.
What happens after I have completed an apprenticeship?
You could continue in your job and even gain promotion, you may be able to
progress to a higher level of NVQ or progress to higher education courses at
college or university e.g. foundation degrees or degree.

Learner Success Stories
“I joined Milltech from school after completing an entry level Motor Vehicle course.
My first work experience and placement was with Simon Dent a local garage he laid
the foundations for my apprenticeship. To start off with it wasn’t easy and have to be
prepared to get your hands dirty.
After that 1st year I applied to Toyota Minories, Newcastle Road and was successful
with both my application and interview. I was over the moon as it is very hard to get
into a main dealer. I have since completed both my level 2 & 3 Light Vehicle NVQ
Apprenticeship. My manager Stephen is now going to send me on the Manufacturing
Apprentice/Academy programme, this is something else I am looking forward to
completing.
I love what I do and my goal is to become self employed and hopefully run my own
business in the future.”
