R I S E R VA D U C A L E C H I A N T I C L A S S I C O R I S E R VA D O C G V I N TA G E : 2012 Chianti Classico ITALY G R A P E VA R I E T I E S : 80% Sangiovese, 20% Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon V I N E YA R D S : Place of production: The vineyards used for the production of Riserva Ducale are located in the traditional Chianti Classico production region, primarily Ruffino’s Santedame and Gretole estates in the Castellina subregion Toscana Firenze Pisa San Polo in Chianti Greve in Chianti Castellina Arezzo in Chianti Monteriggioni San Gimignano Bolgheri Siena Montepulciano Montalcino Grosseto Soil: The soil is typical of the Chianti Classico area, clayey with an abundant presence of “Galestro” rock Microclimate: The microclimate varies from one area to another, which bestows richness and complexity to the wine Altitude: Variable from 951–1,476 feet (290–450 meters) above sea level Growing system: Cordon trained Vine density: 1,214–2,025 vines per acre (3,000–5,000 vines per hectare) Riserva Ducale Chianti Classico Riserva began with a careful selection of the best grapes in the traditional Chianti Classico production region during harvest, which began in September and continued through October. Fermentation, aided by racking and punching down, took place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats for 10 days, followed by another 10 days of maceration on the skins. The wine underwent secondary malolactic fermentation to enhance its velvety texture, then aged for 24 months in oak, stainless steel, and concrete vats. The Riserva Ducale spent an additional three months in bottle before release. Alcohol content: 13% vol. TA S T I N G N OT E S : Color: Intense ruby red Aroma: This complex wine is characterized by cherry and violet notes with delicate hints of tobacco,white pepper, and a touch of flint. Tasting profile: Riserva Ducale Chianti Classico Riserva is well balanced on the palate, with velvety tannins, firm acidity, and a lingering finish of rosemary. Its structure will allow it to age for two to five years, if not longer.
