Bellydance LIVE in Cairo!
Bellydance LIVE in Cairo! Live Musicality Experience for Dancers Oct 1-6, 2016 It gives me great pleasure to host the world’s first completely LIVE immersive music-movement study course of its kind, with professional Egyptian musicians, in Cairo, in October 2016. The focus is The Art of Improvisation & Cultural studies. Many bellydancers have a longing to dance to authentic live Egyptian music. Attuned to the music, the dancer responds to the resonance of each instrument that creates the musical landscape. The power of live music elicits instinctive, emotive and sensual dance responses. These responses allow the dancer to embrace the joy of being fully present. And in the moment of aliveness and vibrant connection, both dancer and musician unite in a pure flow of inspired artistry. Dancing to live music creates the spontaneous expression that ignites the beautiful, confident heart of Egyptian dance - improvisation. No Images? Click here What makes this different? It is for dancers who wish to enrich their awareness of Egyptian musicality, and develop their improvisational skills to live music. This interactive course is presented as a series of LIVE immersive music-movement sessions for bellydancers with some of Cairo’s leading musicians & percussionists. It provides an opportunity to enjoy potent, real-time musical experiences, and to dance freely to live Egyptian music of various genres. The course’s aim is to enhance your sense of musicality through the live dance experience, gaining a deeper understanding of the different types of rhythms, instruments and music that make up the fabric of Egyptian musicality and percussion. You’ll learn more about music-movement connection and develop responsive dance skills through live practice sessions and experiential learning. DINNER is included every night after class so participants can share and chat. Course Delivery – Focus on Experiential Learning Each session represents a specific genre of Egyptian dance, and begins with a seminar style overview of the music and cultural styling for study purposes. The remainder of the session provides an opportunity to practice your dancing in a relaxed, supportive environment. You can explore your movement responses, experiment with new techniques or simply enjoy free-dancing to authentic music. What makes this course different is that the participant develops dance skills to live music through experimentation and response, rather than being told what to do. There is no choreography or set format, but rather a focus on learning through dancing and interacting with the musicians. You can work solo, enlist the support of your dance peers, or work in a group as ideas develop. Dancers, from students to professionals are welcome to participate, no matter what age or level of experience. All dancers will benefit. This rare opportunity offers a diverse array of traditional Egyptian musical styles, and encourages exploration of authentic movement responses, especially ‘taqsim’ - the improvisational heart of Egyptian dance. You can enjoy dancing to cultural Egyptian music in a fun, informal and non-competitive atmosphere with direct interaction with the friendly, professional musicians.
