WELCOME TO CAMP RAVEN 2016
The cues for summer are numerous and noticeable; it is a month before the solstice, days are
longer, nights are shorter. The annual emerging cicadas scream to each other at dusk while
Major League Baseball is in full swing. Another more familiar signal that summer is here
includes the urgent planning of the next three months. One option is Riverfield Country
Day School’s Camp Raven.
Camp Raven is nestled on 120 acres west of the river just north of Tulsa Hills. All of us agree
that a positive camp experience can be life-changing. Without a doubt we are ready to make wonderful memories this summer. Our mission is to provide an excellent summer experience in a family-oriented atmosphere.
We seek to motivate and encourage campers to explore, learn and have fun. Our experienced camp staff utilizes
our beautiful campus filled with trees, animals, and activities.
I am very excited about all the events and camps this summer. Check out our calendar for family friendly events

Arkansas is quickly becoming known as a world class outdoor adventure destination. Horseshoe Canyon Ranch (HCR), a small dude ranch
in the central Ozarks, is one of the premier rock climbing destinations
in our region. Campers will be introduced to the fundamentals of rock
climbing, camping skills, and canoeing before spending three exciting
days exploring the Ozarks. We will spend two nights at Steel Creek
campground, nestled alongside the Scenic Buffalo River. Campers will
scale the sandstone bluffs by day and melt marshmallows over a campfire by night. The trip cost includes group equipment, transportation,
and specialized instruction. No experience required. Requires purchase
of school lunch.

sport. Come enjoy a week of America’s greatest pastime: BASEBALL!
What better way to spend the dog days of summer than hitting a homer,
catching a pop-fly, or just playing a nice game of catch? Students will
learn the fundamentals of baseball (fielding, batting, pitching, etc), play
in small-sided scrimmages, and enjoy a hot dog cookout at the culmination of the week.

course meets the state requirement of 10 hours classroom and 6 hours behind-the-wheel training. Instruction covers the Oklahoma Driver Manual

Jeopardy. Students are provided in-class copies of the Oklahoma Driver

understand more about movies and how they are made. Over the course
of the week, campers will watch typical fun summer films, but each one

learn some film history, the use of emotional themes, the different styles
of film scores, special effects, sound mixing, and cinematography. An
introduction will also be given as to how movies are edited and how
sound is done in post-production.

In addition to the rich culture of the Native Americans, significant
contributions have been made in the areas of architecture, commerce,
music, art, and business. This fabulous camp will trace the growth of
T-Town from its earliest days to the present. In addition, each day the
students will examine a Who’s Who of Famous Oklahomans. Campers
will tour the Tulsa Historical Society, downtown Tulsa Art Deco buildings, the Jazz Hall of Fame, Ft. Gibson, the Will Rogers Museum, and
the Port of Catoosa.

Campers will spend several hours throughout the week at Paintball Adventures Field and will learn all aspects of paintball, including sportsmanship and game strategies, teamwork, decision-making skills, promoting

In one fascinating, educational week, campers become law students,
discovering how laws and ordinances are developed which improve our
world. From getting a stop sign posted on your street, to Oklahoma statues that protect our air, water and food, to acts of Congress that affect
all Americans—students will follow how government works to serve
people like them. For much of the week, Raven Law will be on the
move, visiting with leaders at the county court house and local offices
of state legislators and a U.S. Congressman. Finally, campers will write
a Raven Rule, and walk it through the steps of research, conversations
with camp and school officials, public meetings, and finally bring the
rule to a camp-wide vote on Friday.

climbing movement and basic anchor systems. We will get a bird’s eye
view of Riverfield’s amazing campus during introductory on-campus
tree climbing sessions. Personalized instruction will provide campers
with the basics of climbing movement and safety skills, all of which are
taught through group games and challenges. Field trips to New Heights
Rock Gym, Turkey Mountain, and Chandler Park will help provide
campers with an overview of climbing opportunities in and around the
Tulsa area. The camp cost includes group equipment, transportation,
and specialized instruction.

Have you ever wondered what it might have been like to wander the
west in the days of Lewis and Clark? Walk in the footsteps of discoverers as we step into the wild of Riverfield’s 120 acre campus. Learn

wilderness, creating tools, and building primitive structures using minimizing impact principles. The workshop will culminate with a series of
scenarios taken from real search and rescue teams.

Take swim lessons with one of the best instructors in town. Jane Whitt
is an American Red Cross Water Safety and Lifeguard Training Instructor with over 30 years of experience in swim lesson instruction. Camp

level test or can enroll for one week to just enjoy learning.

granite cliff faces of the Wichita Mountains. In addition to seeing bison,
elk, and a prairie dog town, this opportunity includes the best views in

Registration Fee
The registration fee is a non-refundable annual administrative
fee per camper. The Summer registration fee is $50 for each
camper, unless the camper is already registered for the 2016-17
school year, as that registration fee covers summer as well.
Deposit
Each camper must have a $200 tuition deposit on account. If you
have applied your deposit toward tuition previously, you will need
to submit another $200 deposit along with the $50 registration fee
for each camper. If you are unsure if your camper has a deposit
on file, contact [email protected].
Registration/Changes/Cancellations
No refund is given for absences. Requests for changes in camp
enrollment will incur a $25 per change fee. No cancellations are
allowed for any of Summer Camp after April 1st and full tuition
must be paid. Registration is processed first-come, first-served.
Camp Tuition Payment Schedule
Tuition for Weeks 1-4 is due May 15th, Weeks 5-8 is due June
15th, and Weeks 9-12 is due July 15th. The Business Office will
email a statement to those with a balance due around the 5th of
each month. If paying by check your payment can be placed
in the tuition box on the front desk in the main building. A late
payment fee of 5% of the unpaid balance will be due after the
25th of the month. We do not accept credit cards for payment of
tuition or fees.
Lunch
For Pre-School campers, lunch is included in the cost of tuition.
For Pre-K campers lunch must be selected (or not) for the entire
summer. If lunch is brought from home, the lunch should not
need to be refrigerated or heated. Milk is available for everyone.
Before and After Camp Care
Riverfield offers care for campers from 7am - 8:30am and 3pm5:30pm (or 6pm) for an additional fee.
Comfirmation of summer registration will be sent to
families in April.
Friday Night Out
Friday Night Outs are fun fundraisers for the school. They
are as much fun for the campers with supper, special activities, and a movie as they are for parents, who have an adult
night out. Parents pick up their children by 11pm. Watch for
information and reservation forms.
