our mission:
Helping people with
developmental disabilities
lead productive, happy lives
and connecting with the
human spirit in us all.

This evening not only served as a
fundraiser, but more importantly
gave the guests a glimpse into
the lives of the men and women
of Lambs Farm. Through
special moments during the
evening, the vision and mission
behind the organization and
programs were highlighted.
One of these moments
occurred when the
guests were treated to
songs by the Lambs
Farm choir. They
performed several well-known country
songs and Greased Lightning from this
year’s Participant Theatre production of
Grease.
In addition, each year a Participant is
honored with the Living Legacy Award
at the Annual Benefit. It is bestowed
upon someone who encompasses the
Co-founders’ beliefs that given the
opportunity, people with developmental
disabilities can become contributing
members of society. Michele
Hendrickson was this year’s honoree.
She received a crystal paper weight
engraved with the Lambs Farm logo and
her name.

From the
President and CEO’s desk...
In 2011, as part of our 50th Anniversary celebration,
we established the Lambs Farm Living Legacy Award
recognizing Participants who embody the vision of our
Co-Founders.
Among their
beliefs was
that, given the
opportunity,
people with
developmental
disabilities
could learn,
grow, and
become
contributing members of society.
As a young child, life for Michele
Hendrickson was not easy. As
she puts it, “Living in a world
where people with disabilities are
misunderstood and not accepted
was a hard pill to swallow, but my
parents taught me that giving up
was not an option.” They fought for
her right to attend Lyons Township
High School, and she graduated
in 1980. Michele moved to Lambs
Farm shortly thereafter.
She originally lived in a group home
on our campus, and has lived in
one of our community homes for
many years. Working in our campus
businesses, she learned the skills
necessary to secure employment in
the community. When her job was
eliminated in 2012, she returned
to work on campus, but hopes to
return to a community job when the
economy improves. She participates
in many Lambs Farm activities,
including bowling, bocce ball, and
floor hockey, and attends an equineassisted training and therapy class
where she also volunteers. Most
recently, she demonstrated her
formidable acting and singing talents
starring as Sandy in Lambs Farm’s
2013 production of “Grease”.
One would think her days are
very full – and they are. But,
Michele always makes time to give
something back. Over the years,
she regularly volunteered at the
Moody Bible Institute, and even
enrolled as a student to earn a
Certificate in Biblical Studies.
She is active in her Church, and
serves as a leader in the Young
Life Capernaum Program where
she helps organize activities and
Biblical group discussions for high
school students, some of whom are
disabled. To her credit, she learned
to use buses, trains and taxies that
get her where she needs to go.
Michele is a happy woman with
a passion to help others any
way she can. She is proud of her
accomplishments and always
looking to do more. By anyone’s
standards, she certainly far exceeds
the personification of a contributing
member of society – and someone
who regularly puts the needs of
others above her own.
For the men and women of Lambs
Farm, the pursuit of a full life
embodies a celebration of who
they are, a sincere compassion for
others, and the continuous desire
to be treated with the respect and
dignity they so richly deserve.
Michele Hendrickson is a person who
makes a significant contribution to
her community – a Living Legacy
who emulates the vision that our
Co-Founders created and fought so
hard to achieve.
Your support has and will continue
to assist us in assuring every possible
opportunity for the men and women
we serve to broaden their horizons,
explore new interests, and continue
to grow. It is an investment in the
quality of their lives that could, as
demonstrated by Michele, reap
benefits for many.
Sincerely,
Dianne M. Yaconetti
President and CEO
(continued from cover)
picked me,” said Michele. “I did
not know that I have had that big
of an impact.”
Michele has held many community
jobs throughout her life, and now
works at Lambs Farm’s Magnolia
Café & Bakery. She also volunteers
at Equestrian Connection and
Young Life Capernaum, and this
year starred as Sandy in our
Participant Theatre production of
Grease. She is also very involved
in her church and has earned a
Certificate in Biblical Studies from
Moody Bible Institute.
“I hope to continue to be a good
influence and role model,” Michele
stated.
Lambs Farm has hosted an Annual
Benefit for the past three years,
but this year was extra special
as it was held in honor of Vince
Casanova, a long-time friend and
member of the Board of Directors,
who passed away in July. Many
guests, including friends from
the Chicago Tribune where Vince
worked for 33 years, attended the
event in his memory which added
to the warm atmosphere of the
evening.
“I attended the Lambs Farm Gala
with a group of Tribune colleagues,
as we all knew how very important
the organization was to Vince
Casanova,” said Amy Guth. “It
was clear through the course of
the evening why he loved Lambs
Farm so very much and worked so
hard to support the organization’s
efforts.”
Additionally, The Casanova
Award was established this year
in memory of Vince Casanova
whose belief in the mission of
Lambs Farm was an inspiration to
everyone. Vince’s widow, Nancy
and two sons, Tom and Mark,
accepted the award. In the future
it will be awarded to those with
a commitment to the mission of
Lambs Farm and who fulfill this
commitment in their own way.
Following the awards
presentations, guests were
invited to directly support the
lives of Lambs Farm Participants
by engaging in a Paddle Raiser.
Since Lambs Farm does not
receive funding for the Recreation
program, this year’s Paddle Raiser
served as a way to underwrite the
cost of a new Special Olympics
Softball team to enrich the lives of
our Participants.
Due to the overwhelming
generosity of the guests over
$18,000 was raised for the new
Softball team!
The evening also boasted a vast
array of silent auction items to bid
on, a Dredging for Gold station to
win a one-ounce gold coin valued
at $1,400, a Wine Corral, and
several live auction items including
a trip to the Orange Bowl. Among
all of these exciting opportunities
to support Lambs Farm, one
stuffed animal stood out in the
crowd!
For the past three years, a giant
stuffed lamb has been a silent
auction item that continues to
grow in notoriety. Far beyond any
other item, the lamb had the most
bids and was the best performing
auction item for Lambs Farm.
Overall, the Harvesting the Spirit
evening was a wonderful night full
of memories and fun for everyone
involved. Thank you to all who
attended and helped to support
the men and women of Lambs
Farm.
A special thank you to Arie Zoller,
Chairman of the Host Committee,
and to our major sponsors- BMO
Harris Bank, Chicago Tribune, and
Discover Financial Services.

Year End Gift
to Lambs Farm
The holiday season - and all
the planning that comes with it
- is upon us. It’s time to make
a list of things we need to do
and gifts we need to purchase
for family and friends. Have
you ever made a charitable
giving list?
Remembering organizations
with a year-end donation
is a sincere demonstration
of your belief in a charity’s
mission. Such support
is greatly appreciated
and makes a tremendous
difference to organizations
like Lambs Farm.
By adding Lambs Farm to
your year-end charitable
giving list, your generosity
will help Lambs Farm
continue to provide valuable,
life enriching opportunities
for the remarkable men and
women we serve. Tributes
- which make meaningful
gifts for the holidays are a wonderful way of
remembering someone
important to you. So
consider honoring a loved
one by making a donation to
Lambs Farm in their name.

The T-Birds performing Greased Lightning
Grease is the Word
After nine months of eager
anticipation, the cast, crew and
choir of our Annual Musical
Theatre production had the
chance to show off their talent
and hard work on September 2022. This year’s musical included
the largest cast yet for a Lambs
Farm production, and as a result
the theatre was brimming with
fans excited to see their loved
ones on stage at the Gorton
Community Center in Lake Forest.
Grease was the third production
of the Fine Arts program, and
according to Co-Directors Susan
Hoadley and Janine Neumann,
this year attracted the largest
audience. Thank you to everyone
who came out to support the men
and women of Lambs Farm!
Not only have the Participants
loved being a part of the
musicals, their families and
friends have also enjoyed
cheering them on along the way.
Parent Pat Kurschner exclaimed
that it makes her very proud to
watch her son Mike perform and
show his sense of humor.
“Mike really puts his best foot
forward,” said Pat. “He makes
me so proud of all that he has
done.”
Each year, the theatre productions
have offered the Participants a
chance to shine and show the
community their amazing talents.
According to Participant Laura
Collins, the productions give her a
chance to be “noticed.”
For everyone involved, the
Participant Theatre productions
have been very inspirational!
“It is amazing to me what the
Participants are able to accomplish
when given the opportunity,” said
Pat Kurschner. “The Fine Arts
program is really a great addition.”
Practice for the next musical, Into
the Woods, will begin in January!
If you would like to volunteer for
the upcoming production, please
contact Janine or Susan at 847990-3838.
“We really want to thank all of the
volunteers who dedicated their
time to Grease. There is no way
we could have done it without
them,” exclaimed Susan and
Janine.
On December 17 at 3pm, the Fine Arts
program will be putting on a Holiday
Concert. Mark your calendars!

Participants volunteering at Bernie’s Book Bank
Lending a Helping Hand
The Co-founders vision of seeing
people with developmental
disabilities grow into active
members of society is continually
realized by the men and women
of Lambs Farm. From retirement
homes to local churches, many
Participants are motivated to
give back to their community by
volunteering their time each week.
Several Participants frequently
spend time at Winchester House
Healthcare and Rehabilitation
helping to set up, facilitate and
engage in activities with the
residents. They provide time, care
and support that is much needed
and appreciated by the staff and
residents.
Many Participants also volunteer
at their local churches each
week as active members of their
congregations, and organizations
like Equestrian Connection which
offers therapeutic horse back
riding.
Through their hard work, they
show everyone that they are not
just recipients of services, but are
contributors and desire to show
the community the same care they
receive.
Additionally, due to this ongoing
interest, our Helping Hands Quest
class is offered to the Participants
as another easy way to engage in
volunteer work around the area
each week.
For the Fall Quest session, our
Participants have volunteered
at Bernie’s Book Bank, Northern
Illinois Food Bank, The Park at
Vernon Hills-Brookdale Senior
Living and Feed My Starving
Children.
“This is my favorite Quest class,”
said Participant Marc Nachtman.
“I like to get out in the community
and help other people.”
Uniquely, these opportunities
come full circle for us here!
Often the Northern Illinois Food
Bank provides food for our
residences at Lambs Farm and
in the community. Due to these
donations, our Participants are
able to enjoy delicious meals and
enhance their daily living skills
while preparing the food together
with staff. We are so thankful for
these contributions!
