2011 brought many changes to Columbus Community Hospital and to the
nation’s health care system. 2012 has
continued that evolution as hospitals,
physicians and other providers adapt
their policies and procedures to accommodate health care reform legislation.
At Columbus Community Hospital,
we’re prepared for these changes and
look forward to the challenge.
In the past year, Columbus Community Hospital continued our $13 million
renovation and expansion project. The
project, which includes the following
new departments: Emergency, Radiology, Women’s Imagining, Patient
Simulation Lab, Pharmacy and Registration, along with additional space
for storage and for our Gift Shop, will
allow us to better meet our patients’
needs.
Not only are we working to improve
our facilities, but the past two years, we
have welcomed 33 new physicians to
our medical staff. These gifted doctors
help us ensure quality care close to
home for our patients.
When you donate to the Columbus
Community Hospital Foundation, you
become part of our efforts to provide
new equipment, programming and
treatment for all those touched by
the work of our dedicated staff. I’m
excited about the many examples of
your “dollars at work” in the halls of
the Hospital, including:
• State-of-the-art patient simulation
mannequins to improve training for
our nurses and student nurses
• Tele-health monitors so that chronically ill patients may transmit vital
signs to this Hospital from the
comfort of their own homes
• Automated external defibrillators
to administer potentially lifesaving
treatment in a cardiac emergency
• Sun shades over the Hospital
cafeteria patio to create an enjoyable outdoor space for hospital
visitors and staff
• Many more
With your help, we will continue
our efforts to offer the health care
services you need close to home.
On behalf of the Foundation Board
of Directors and everyone here at
Columbus Community Hospital,
thank you again for helping make
this Hospital what it is today. The
Foundation is privileged to have
you as a supporter.
Sincerely,
Michael Hansen, FACHE
President/CEO
Columbus Community Hospital
Columbus Community Hospital Foundation May 2011 - April 2012 Annual Report
FROM THE FOUNDATION CHAIRMAN
Carroll Novicki
The mission of the Columbus Community Hospital Foundation is building
goodwill and financial support for the
hospital. Throughout this past year, the
Foundation Board of Directors and staff
have attempted to be inspired by these
words, and to take actions which would
move the mission forward. Your help in
this endeavor was indispensable and is
much appreciated.
Contributions from donors and employees were $422,456. The Auxiliary continued to put in countless high quality hours
of service, and contributed $86,000 to the
Hospital from funds generated by the Extravaganza and operation of the gift shop.
The 2011 golf tournament raised over
$96,000 - a new record by far, and efforts to obtain grants from foundations
had excellent results. Unlike the prior
year, the financial markets were soft this
fiscal year, and so we had only modest
investment returns.
The hospital itself is in an exciting
period of making great strides in
the quality and scope of its facilities,
staff, and services so as to insure that
we will have a top-notch hospital
serving Columbus and communities
in a five county area for many years
to come. The board made the decision to step up the level of current
support of hospital projects of exceptional merit, and provided $341,000
for seventeen of them, including
improved wheel chairs for assisting
patients in and out of the hospital, a
home health monitoring system that
records and transmits vital signs from
those in recovery stages at home,
and I-pads to aid in child and adult
speech therapy.
In a unique joint funding effort between the Foundation, the Hospital
Auxiliary and Central Community
College - Columbus campus, over
$300,000 was committed to a major
state-of-the-art new teaching tool -
a set of three mannequins which realistically simulate male, female and child
patient symptoms. These patient simulators will be used to train nurses from
this hospital and area hospitals, and
nursing students from Central Community College - Columbus campus.
The Foundation hopes to be of significant service to the hospital and the
patients it serves for many years to
come. We thank you for your generous
support in the 2011-12 fiscal year. We
hope that you will continue to provide
it, and that you will recommend the
Foundation to others who discuss their
charitable giving with you.
Sincerely,
Carroll Novicki

Columbus Community Hospital Foundation May 2011 - April 2012 Annual Report
V O L U N T E E R S & A U X I L I A RY
From May 2011 to April 2012, the volunteer team at Columbus Community
Hospital grew to 322 volunteers and
Auxiliary members strong. And while
the service of each individual varies,
the overall goals remain the same – “to
serve as an instrumental part in the
provision of quality healthcare services”
and “to support the service and financial
endeavors of Columbus Community
Hospital.”
This year, the Auxiliary is celebrating its
40th anniversary. Since its beginning
in 1972, the Auxiliary has raised and
donated nearly $1.3 Million to Columbus Community Hospital. In 2012,
the Auxiliary hosted its 27th Annual
Extravaganza. Annual proceeds from
the Auxiliary totaled $86,984 and were
used to purchase a Zoll Defibrillator,
an Automated External Defibrillator
(AED), and made a significant donation
to help purchase CCH’s first patient
simulator mannequin.
In June 2011, Vicki Forsberg joined the
Foundation Department staff as Gift
Shop Coordinator. Vicki’s skills and
talents serve the fundraising efforts of
the Auxiliary well as she leads the daily
activities of the gift shop and coordinates
supplemental events including jewelry
sales, book fairs, and annual holiday
open house.
Even as construction was completed on
the Hospital’s new Emergency Department, the next phase of construction was
underway. For seven weeks this spring,
due to temporary walls and blocked
hallways, anyone traveling between the
main hospital building and the Emergency Department required an escort,
since the route went through a patient
sensitive area. Volunteers willingly
worked extended shifts to assist during
this transition time.
In April 2012, volunteers were honored for their continued support
and dedication to the hospital. The
theme of this year’s event – Honor
– was based on a three-part definition: treating others as special, doing
more than what is expected, and hav-
ing a good attitude. Volunteers were
recognized for their individual service
contributions as well as 26,004 hours of
combined service to Columbus Community Hospital.
