Tickets are £8, from Budleigh TIC (01395 445275). www. saltertondrama.co.uk Renaissance’s charity carol concert A charity carol concert is coming up this Saturday (November 22) in Exmouth. Hosted by the Renaissance Ladies’ Chorus, it’s at Tower Street Methodist Church, in aid of Devon Freewheelers. There’s free admission, but the organisers are asking for donations. Devon Freewheelers is a team of 50 volunteer emergency vehicle drivers dedicated to providing a weekday out-of- hours and a weekend service supporting the NHS hospitals in Devon. Last year, it undertook 2,012 missions that saved lives. “The charity needs at least £150,000 a year to maintain a fleet of 11 bikes, two emergency, all-terrain vehicles and its HQ. We hope our fundraising will help towards these costs,” said Jenny Letten, Renaissance’s chairman. The chorus’s recent Christmas carol workshop was attended by more than 40 women from all over East Devon. “I can’t get over the quality and sound of our new ladies, they’re fabulous,” says Maire Hoppins, Renaissance’s musical director. “We’ll have a wonderful evening on Saturday, with our new Christmas Belles showcasing their newly learnt Santa at Crealy this Christmas D evon’s Crealy Great Adventure Park will hear the jingling of bells this Christmas when Santa, Rudolph and his helpers fly in to visit the park throughout December. On Friday, there’s swinging jazz with Just Misbehavin’ at Lympstone’s The Globe, kicking off at 9pm. On Saturday, Barefoot Liarz, led by vocalist Paul ‘Taff ’ Avery, slot in their slant on soul, funk and Motown covers at The Famous Old Barrel. And on the same night, there’s stomping 1960s covers from FAB at the GWRSA. Both gigs start at 9pm. Sunday sees covers band Banana Thieves at the First and Last Inn at 6pm, while one-man rock band Grouvecat does his thing at The Famous Old Barrel at 8.30pm. Exmouth’s open mic/jam nights are a good place for young musicians to start or for established players to try new material. This week there are two events, both on Monday night. The Park Hotel’s Showcase starts at 8.30pm, while The Famous Old Barrel’s jam night is at 9pm. Finally folk fans can look forward to the Bicton Folk session with Derek Brookes at the Bicton Inn next Thursday (November 27).
