Thanks. Delegates’ Corner “What Service Means to Me” Yesterday I raised my hand to do service at a meeting. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Approximately 6 weeks ago when I was struggling with food, still going to meetings but feeling disconnected, I realized I had no service commitments. I knew that being of service, that reaching out to help a meeting, that raising my hand to say my name is Arline and I will take that service position would draw be back in from the sidelines. According to the 7th Tradition, every OA group ought to be fully self-supporting, declining outside contributions. LAIG CASH FLOW REPORT Los Angeles Overeaters Anonymous Treasury Report February 2016 Ordinary Income/Expense Income Birthday Party Donation 726.94 Part of my thinking was that I'd been around for a while so let the new people be of service. I realized I was making it a them and me program. It is a we program. We are waiting for you to join us and be of service. ~Arline B. (A dose of humor to fight the disease) Top 5 Fictional Characters Who Could REALLY use Program 1. Inigo Montoya from “The Princess Bride”. Anyone who spends his entire life in the revenge business needs to do some serious 4th step work. Can you say “resentments?” 2. The witch from Hansel and Gretel. Sure, she gave up flour and sugar, but she couldn’t say no to some tasty twins. Just goes to show that some of us can literally binge on anything! 3. Santa Claus: Ol’ St. Nick may come off jolly and altruistic, but deep down, he knows he does it all for that stale plate of cookies that’s been sitting out since bedtime. A true compulsive eater. 4. Darth Vader: Talk about an egotistical, wants to be his own [and everyone else’s] Higher Power maniac, who went self-will-run-rioting all over the galaxy. 5. The Incredible Hulk: If ever there was a guy who needs to learn to meditate. Dude – get a grip on Step 11 and you’ll save yourself sooo much money in new pants . . . which you can then place in the 7th tradition basket. ;-) Honorable mention: Cookie Monster, The Hamburgler, Wimpy [Popeye’s broke, beef-addicted buddy]. ~Deanna J.~ Deanna J.
