He merges between the Arabic
calligraphy and plastic arts.
He mixes an artistic vision
with Islamic arts; he also uses

A WORD FROM THE CHAIRMAN
In today’s highly connected world, corporate social
responsibility (CSR) have grown in importance, as
companies increasingly understand the roles they need
to play as influential members of the communities in
which they operate. Those companies which align their
strategies and activities with the priorities of wider
society will successfully grow alongside and benefit all
of their stakeholders.
But beyond the specific local and national benefits that
these activities can bring, CSR is becoming increasingly
important to corporate competitiveness, helping in areas
such as risk management, cost savings, customer
relationships, human resource management, and
innovation capacity.
Of course, CSR policy can function as a self-regulatory
mechanism, ensuring active compliance with the ethical
standards and international norms. But most companies’
implementation go beyond compliance and the narrow
interests of each firm to embrace responsibility and to
encourage a positive impact on both the environment
and on stakeholders including consumers, employees,
investors, and communities.
At SHB we have long understood the value that a
focused CSR programme can create, both for our direct
stakeholders and for the wider communities in which
we work.
Over our 89 year history we have built on our heritage
of being the bank that launched the Kingdom’s first
currency to become a leading provider of financial
products and services to Saudi’s companies - from the
largest corporations to fast-growing smaller enterprises.
We have done this by listening to our customers and
creating the products and services they want. And we
8
have invested in our people and in our infrastructure. We
are now evolving again to grow the support we offer to
individuals and families.
Our CSR activities are key to supporting all this. For us,
CSR is a core ethos. It supports our aim of being the
bank the Kingdom always chooses.
We want to ensure that our customers and employees
flourish, our communities and environment stay vibrant
and that our shareholders are rewarded for their support.
Our activities come in a number of guises. Recognizing
the importance of community partnerships in the
development of Saudi society, we have made this a
strategic priority, creating a number of community
partnerships with leading entities. This has already
resulted in many exciting initiatives and programs that
are supporting sustainable development and that aim to
empower members of society to fulfill their aspirations.
We also provide support directly to the Kingdom’s
growing small and medium-sized enterprise sector
and are particularly proud of our recently-launched
website «the Business Owner Toolkit». This provides
these entrepreneurs with a wide selection of essential
information, business tools, templates, recommendations
and insights to help them grow further.
This report will highlight the CSR activities of SHB,
including the varied programs, events, and initiatives
which add to our many existing achievements and efforts,
helping us to play an active part in contributing to the
development of the Kingdom.
