Waterfront living is the way to go, as
investors look for the best coastal areas
Text: Zainal Alam Kadir
CLOSE your eyes. Picture yourself
country in the world in terms of
sitting on a veranda overlooking the
sea sipp ng your favourite drink. Hear
the ripple of the water, or perhaps the
rhythmic sound of the wave, as the
area, Malaysia offers 329,847 square

up 132,090 square kilometres (51,000
sq mi), or 39.7 per cent the country's
your fare. If you feel the vew is your
cup of tea minus the sand, why don't
you try "moving" the same veranda,
still facing the sea, in the midst of lush
mangrove trees. You might want to
add the sound of the birds and other
inhabitants of the area that might
make the scene even more captivating.
Perhaps you're one of those who'd
picture yourself living the high life in a

you'd realise that the scene need not
just be a fragment of your imagination.
Waterfront living in Malaysia is not a
fiction, and the word sea view has long
been the main selling point to many
resorts and housing estates
In fact, it has been part of our lifestyle
Perhaps that's also the reason why we
are just too blase about living by the
sea. People in Kelantan and Terengganu
wou d not give it that much thought as
waterfront living has always been part
of their lives. Think about it, though.
While we look at waterfront dwelling in

exotic locations that spell potential.
Port Dickson in Negeri Sembilan and
Cherating in Pahang could probably be
the most distinct "waterfront colonies"
that have been thriving nicely since
the earlier days. Over the years, both
places have been attracting settlers and
holidaymakers from various income
brackets.
Things are changing. As Malaysians
are getting more affluent, and as more
foreigners begin to take more notice
of :he country, the need for that extra
something has been rather prominent.
Developers are getting more creative
and innovative in introducing new
ideas. Among the greatest examples
would be the projects that are taking
shape in various parts of Iskandar region
in Johor. Many projects are positioned
nicely along the coastline, fac'ng the
Republic of Singapore.
Now imagine if the
same idea and concept
are adopted by other
projects in other parts
of the country. One
can see that mini
Miami or Malibu along
the coastlines along
the country.
