IEMC MUSTANG
Kirk Seaborn’s ’69 Mach 1
‘Stang of The Month
I am Kirk Seaborn from Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. I've recently become a
member of the Inland Empire Mustang Club but have been an MCA member and a
member of other local car clubs here in central Alberta for numerous years. I've always
respected and enjoyed learning about the rich history and heritage of the Mustang,
experiencing their beauty their smells and sounds and also the comradery with others.
As enthusiasts we all play a part in the history and heritage; as owners we shoulder the
responsibility to act as curators in preserving and caring for the cars for a while and then
we pass them on for others to enjoy.

My car is a 1969 Mustang Mach 1 with double R code Drag Pack optioned w/ 428
Super Cobra-Jet engine and C-6 Automatic Transmission. It features the V Code 3.91 rear
end, shaker hood, and rare hood tachometer. The interior is mostly original and is in
exceptional condition. The car has 40,000 original miles, matching numbers and a

for years and swore that someday it
would be his! Well, Gilchrist returned

not share the same level of enthusiasm in owning one of the most coveted Mustangs ever, the Drag Pack Mach 1.
Over the next two years, Mrs. Gihchrist's dislike for the Mustang grew, it took up her space in her garage and
she strongly urged her husband to sell before his next upcoming overseas mission. Gilchrist listed the car online on
Aug 1, 2004 and within 12 hours he received over 60 phone calls and three trailers in his yard to pick it up, I happened
to be a bit faster and possibly more persuasive than the others and have since been the proud third owner since
2005. I stayed in contact with Captain Gilchrist for a while and he says that his wife wasn't pleased that their phone
continued to ring for the next month!!
I've participated in a few car shows and have driven it about 1000 miles in the last 11 years, made some minor improvement being mindful of it's originality. In 2003 it was awarded a first at the Ford centennial celebration
show called 'The Ford 100' in Edmonton and I've won several 'People's Choice' awards at Rocky Mountain House, Alberta over the last decade.
For many years the 1969 Mach 1 428 SCJ has been my dream car, I've been fortunate enough to have been
able to look after this one for a while and now it is time for me to pass it onto somebody else looking to fulfill a dream.
So, I’m now offering this spectacular car for sale at an asking price of $80,000. If you are interested, please
contact me at the numbers shown in the Classified section of this newsletter.

Ponies on the Trail
Rest in Peace,
“Carmen was given a day in the sun and her top was
down. We wandered through the Palouse wheat country,
adorned in spring green, where we saw a herd of Bison and
a Bald Eagle. We made a lunch stop at Palouse Falls and
watched the water roar down the chute. We then did a
leisurely cruise back to Spokane, stopping at Steptoe

was a shame there weren't more. For March though, the
weather was too great and the day too nice to pass

Some where it has been stated that we don't quit
playing because we get old, we get old because we quit
playing. I think the same thing applies to cruising. See you
in the rear view mirror!”
Gary was employed at L & M Truck Sales. He
retired in 2008 after 30 years of loyal and dedicated
service. Gary loved his 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback
K Code. He spent many hours restoring the car to its
original glory. He was a member of the Inland Empire
Mustang Club. Gary won numerous awards, too many
to count.

Gary was preceded in death by his beloved
wife Vivian of 34 years in 2003, and his two sisters,
Cynthia Huffman and Charlotte Padelford.
He is survived by his loving partner, Marsha

Ice Cream Run to O’Doherty’s
2 0 1 6 S h ow - N o - S h i n e
At least 35 club members invaded one of the Valley’s
most popular mid-March destinations for the monthly ICR.
O’Doherty’s has become a St Patty’s tradition for the club in
recent years and the Irish beer-drinking culture is only part of the

reason. The truth is, the food is really good. If you ever have a
hankering for corned beef and cabbage or really good fish and
chips, this is where you want to go.
Our large contingent caused a bottleneck in the food
production department, but when it arrived it was deemed to be
well worth the wait. The staff was friendly and maybe a little

frazzled as they tried to keep the orders coming.
Some have said that the IEMC is really just an eating club
that uses cars as an excuse to meet for a meal. There may be
some truth to that, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
There was an unfortunate incident on the
competition dance floor when Barry Iverson’s nifty
moves exceeded his ability to remained balanced on
his platform shoes. The result: a broken leg. Contest
over.
The gift baskets were outstanding. Items like a
5555-inch flat screen TV, and a really nice smoker/BBQ
topped the list, but there were many other quality items
as well, resulting in a high volume of ticket sales. The
50/50 paypay-out was about $380!
Northern Quest outdid themselves on the
dinner. The food was outout-ofof-thisthis-world good. I heard
nothing but positive remarks. Everything was toptop-notch,
including the wait staff.
To the best of my recollection, the cost of the
event has stayed about the same over the years.
However, the quality of the banquet has more than
doubled. My thanks to the committee for their hard
work. Those of you who have not attended should
really consider going next year.

The members who join together at the ICR’s always have
great conversation and an enjoyable time together.

It’s been a tough month. Thanks to
all the members that showed their support
for the ones who have experienced such
heavy losses in their families. I have always
felt that first and foremost this is a social
club where we can all get to know people with similar interests
in cars. This interest in cars has led to many of us meeting and
becoming friends with a variety of club members. It takes time
to cultivate these relationships and as they say “you’ll get out,
what you put in”. For the new members, I can only encourage
you to jump in and do all you can to get to know the people of
the club. We’re not all going to be best friends and if it weren’t
for the cars, most of us would never meet in the “real” world.
But this last month has shown the strength of those
relationships as we gathered to celebrate the life of Gary
Kendall and showed our support for the Fox family. It is my
sincere hope that we are done having to deal with these types
of tragedies for a while. Please keep Jim, Jan, Marsha and their
families in your thoughts.

just a little early. I wish I had more time to spend with everyone. The food was great and the long wait for service is only
due to the huge turnout. Please remember a rush for many of
these small restaurants means 10 orders. When we show up 40
or 50 deep, it’s going to take some time to get served even if
there is extra staff. It’s part of the deal when you travel in such
large and quality company.
There have been some grumblings about the service
during our regular meetings and I hope we can all work together to find a middle happy ground. The management has been
made aware and there is also another group meeting in the
same place when we are there, so plan ahead like Royal does
and get there REAL early. I happen to like the food very much,
its reasonably priced and it gets there eventually. Don’t give up
on us. I don’t think there is another establishment we could go
to and have such a well rounded success for all the members.

Meeting Minutes
March 1, 2016
Shaun Huck
The meeting was called to order by President Mel Craven, who also led the Pledge of Allegiance.
There were no new members or guests.
Gary Kendall will be moved to Hospice of Spokane tomorrow (March 9th); 121 S Arthur St. He is currently on life
support.
The Show No Shine was a success. The food was good, Gordy Graham did a great job entertaining everyone and it
was an enjoyable evening. Mel got four people dressed up like the Village People. They were going to do the YMCA
dance but to the AARP initial instead, but Barry Iverson got a bit too exuberant on the dance floor, fell of his 6” platform
shoes, and broke his leg so they weren’t able to do it.
Volunteers were asked for to replace Ken West as the Apparel person. Mel suggested that Ken put everything in the
trailer until someone does volunteer and Ken will continue to be the contact until someone does.
The Car Show of the Month for May was suggested to be Wallace Days, but that conflicts with the Shakedown Cruise
so it won’t work. We don’t have any car shows until April and Mel asked us to go through the car shows for that month
and we will decide which car show will be the CSoM for April at the end of the meeting.
Survey results have been finalized and there will be a Board meeting after the club meeting to discuss them.
There will be a memorial service for Jim Fox’s daughter, Jaime, who passed away last weekend at the Real Life Church on
March 5th at 10:00 am (1866 N Cecil, Post Falls, ID). We are going to caravan over to the service; meet by 9:00 am at
Yokes on Montgomery. Bring your Mustang if you’re willing. We will leave by 9:10 am and will take Trent over to the
church. Jaime Fox had health issues for quite a while and it was eventually discovered that her brain had grown too large
for her skull. She went in for emergency surgery in Seattle to correct this. After the surgery, there was some bleeding
involved which led to a series of strokes and she slipped into a coma. Unfortunately she was unable to recover and
passed away after life support was turned off. She is survived by two children and a husband. Barry spoke with Jim and
when asked if there was anything the club could do, Jim responded that he was so down he couldn’t even think. Sue
Manly had a card for Jim that was passed amongst the membership during the course of the meeting. Francine Dober has
agreed to take over the management of the member name cards and welcome packets from Jim.
Ron motioned for the minutes from last month to be approved. It was seconded and approved.
Treasurer – Gerry Searfoss
Dues are trickling in but about 40% of the current membership remains unpaid at this time. An email will go out to
members who haven’t paid after tonight. The By-Laws state that members will be dropped if they have not paid by March
1st. The club’s account has been moved to STCU (Spokane Teacher’s Credit Union) from Washington Trust Bank with a
balance of $6,748. The account has online access so Gerry has access to see the balance and what transactions have been
cleared at any time. The CD was moved as well to STCU and we went from .35% interest to a full 1% interest in the
process. The funds from the CD won’t be needed until the club hosts the International Mustang Meet.
Committee reports:
-Activities – Ron West reported thirty or so people went to the Dragon Inn (February’s Ice Cream Run). Everyone
seemed to like the food. This month’s Ice Cream Run will be at O’Doherty’s on East Sprague. Steve and Cathy Jones are
looking into a trip to the Planetarium at Spokane Community College. We need a minimum of 10 people (cost is $10 per
person) for a private showing on a Saturday. More than 10 people expressed interest by a show of hands so more
information will be gathered and will be presented at the next club meeting.

Meeting Minutes
March 1, 2016
Shaun Huck
-Auctions – Carl Santowski - No auctions until June so there’s nothing to report. Carl and Ray Smith performed the treasury audit
on February 9th. No issues were found.
-Health and Wellness – Jana Craven - Nothing in addition to Gary Kendall’s health problems and Jim Fox’s daughter to report. Mel
thinks flowers for both services should be provided by the club. It was decided at some point as a club that the Health and Welfare
Committee not send flowers anymore; only cards. After some discussion, Mel asked for a motion for the club to send flowers for
both Jaime’s and Gary Kendall’s (once he passes) memorial services in the amount of $100 ($50 for each). It was seconded and
approved. It was also suggested that we add a memorial trophy in Gary Kendall’s honor in his class at the Hot Wheels car show this
year; his Mustang will be there. It was agreed and will be added to this year’s show. A hat was passed around to gather donations for
Jaime’s family; the suggestion for this was to simply give what money was gathered to the family. This produced a total of $477.
-Motorsports – Gary Gunning - The promoter that was doing Track Days last year is not doing it this year, but the track themselves
will be doing it this year and they will do Test and Tune days every other Sunday and every other Wednesday night. Costs will be $85
per car on the weekend and $45 per car from 4:30 pm until dusk on Wednesdays. The first one is April 3rd, but it doesn’t really get
going until May. It sounds like it will be open to a lot more people this year and it also sounds like they will charge $12 per person for
spectators. Gary plans on attending the April 3rd event to check it out and will report back.
Past Activities: Thirty or so people went to the Dragon Inn (February’s Ice Cream Run). Everyone seemed to like the food.
Future Activities: This month’s Ice Cream Run will be at O’Doherty’s on East Sprague at 6:00 pm.
Club Apparel/ Merchandise: Ken has the catalog if anyone wishes to order anything.
Website: Barry suggested that if you want exposure for your car, get it in the newsletter as the Stang of the Month. Everything is up
to date on the website.
Facebook: Michelle Huck still needs more pictures for the Daily Member Mustang. The site has 22 new likes since last month, which
brings the total to 150. The page reached 300 people last week alone based off post reach and all the number are green and going up.
INCCC: Jana Craven – The Show No Shine was last Saturday; it was already discussed earlier in the meeting. Wallace Days conflicts
with the Shakedown Cruise so we won’t be going. We are working with the Downtown coalition and getting some pretty big
sponsorship this year to help out with the scholarship downtown car show that happens July 21st. $13,500 has been gathered this
year for the scholarships. April 23rd is the Penny Drive but club interest is dwindling. Jana asked who would be interested in
participating and there was not enough interest so we are bowing out of the Penny Drive this year. Jana still has scholarship forms if
anyone needs one and they must be mailed in by April 1st or they will not be accepted. There is a car show coming up at the SCC
parking lot with a swap meet on May 1st at 9:00 am.
Mark Lidbeck got a call from the State Veteran’s Home and wanted to know if we’d participate in the Lilac Parade this year. He
committed the club for the Lilac Parade on the May 21st and he sent out a sign-up sheet. We need 12-14 cars to sign up and they will
start our group earlier for the sake of the veterans this year. If you sign up, it’s for just the driver and a veteran. If other passengers
wish to ride, they will have to ride in the backseat. Any Mustang is acceptable for this event.
New Ponies/Modifications: No new ponies or modifications to ponies.
Old Business: Treasury audit; already discussed.
New Business: No new business
Suggestion Box: There are no suggestions in the Suggestion Box.

Meeting Minutes
March 1, 2016

Car Show of the Month – Ray Smith noted that the Home Depot car show on April 16th (on Sprague) is limited to 80 cars so get
there early to ensure you get in. The Home Depot show tends to have really good prizes. Les Schwab on N Division wants to put on
a car show but they need help organizing so if anyone would like to help, contact Frank or Keith at Les Schwab.
HA Award: Barry accepted it for locking his keys in his trunk during his first car show with the club, which just so happened to be
the Home Depot car show with Gary Kendall.
Member Draw – Ray Smith won the member draw and added the funds to the hat for Jaime Fox.
Door Prizes – Winners: Don Smullen, Diane West, Chuck Oliver, Dave Brink
50/50 – Royal won $57.50
Mel called for a motion to adjourn and several members motioned then approved unanimously.
