Strong aromatics of pear, lychee, grapefruit, pineapple, honeydew, citrus
fruit and orange peel. This is a medium bodied crisp wine that is very
balanced with the intense aromatics and flavors. There are nice peach
and stone fruit flavors on the palate and a honey sweetness lingers on the

2013 Tangent Albariño
Made in the traditional style of Rías Baixas Albariño, this wine is pure and
vibrant, with a slight salty characteristic. Mandarin orange and tangerine
peel begin in the aromatics and run clear through to the finish. The round
mouthfeel is beautifully balanced by a somewhat crisp acid structure. The
refreshing quality of this wine makes it an excellent aperitif, and it pairs well

Here at Niven Family Wine Estates, we couldn’t be more excited to share the newest
vintages of SBAR wines with our wine club members. You may have heard that SBAR
stands for “Select blocks and rows,” referring to the meticulous farming methods utilized
within our vineyards, as well as what particular sites on our estate are deemed “SBAR
worthy” by our winemaker, Christian Roguenant. That is all true. But, there’s a second
name that little know about.
The name came to fruition during the early talks of expanding upon Baileyana. There
was a desire to create “the best possible wine…without regard to cost that was unique,
small production and exclusive to our wine club members and guests,” said Michael
Blaney, our VP of Operations. The intent was there, but the question was “What do we
call the new wines?” After much deliberation the name was set, the acronym formed,
and in 2006 they began with a Pinot Noir.
Jump ahead nearly 10 years and added to the list is a gorgeous Syrah and an exquisite
Chardonnay. These wines embody an elegance and balance that is only achievable
with the greatest of care that starts in the vineyard and finishes at our winery in the finest
French oak barrels. “The fruit that goes into SBAR is sourced from blocks that perform
well year in and year out,” said Vineyard Manager, Scott Williams. From choosing the
proper rootstocks and clones for the sites, to irrigation management, to removing fruit if it
is too crowded in the fruiting zone, each and every decision made in regards to the fruit,
and hence the wine, is carefully calculated.
To be able to offer three SBAR wines at one time to our members is a rare delight
because we don’t make SBAR every year. Only wine of the highest caliber is
considered for our SBAR line. We hope you enjoy the wines as much as we enjoyed
creating them for you. To find out the real meaning behind SBAR, you’ll have to come
into the tasting room and ask one of our tasting room hosts. If you’re lucky, they might
just let you in on the fun.

float aromatics. It has a big, creamy mouthfeel with some subtle
sweet oak on the palate. Nice velvety tannins round out a strong
acid structure. Cinnamon and hazelnut flavors shine throughout,

Our Cab is bold and rich, with distinct depth and true to varietal
character. This wine is loaded with blackberry jam, cherry, black
current, exotic spices and cola, with notes of caramelized oak.

steely and has pronounced minerality. It has a bit of an earthy
