M
embers and supporters
alike have been concerned
with the temporary closure of the
Carnegie Center Museum on Sixth Street
in downtown Port Huron. Rumors and
speculation have been buzzing about since
the announcement was made in August.

Is it forever? Will the other sites be closing too?

What will happen to the collection? Are you selling everything off?

What about a Pioneer Day I have booked for my class this fall?

Will you still take a donation? What about my unexpired membership?
Please rest assured that the Port Huron Museums: the Carnegie Center , HURON
Lightship, Thomas Edison Depot Museum will go on! Also, e have recently signed a
new 5 year contract with St. Clair County Parks and Recreation to continue to
operate the Fort Gratiot Light Station. We are here to stay!
For the last few years we have closed in August to prepare for a major fall exhibit.
This time, we have closed to begin some much-needed repair work on the building
and decided to forgo a major exhibit until spring 2016 to allow this to happen.
Administration staff is still in the building 9-5 weekdays, by appointment.
In the meantime, we have extended our fall hours to include Fridays (in addition to
Saturdays & Sundays ) from 11 am - 5 pm at all of our other sites through October
25. The Depot and Lightship will remain open on Saturday and Sunday until
December 6, instead of closing in October.
We will also be offering a full calendar of events and activities at both the Carnegie
Center and the Fort Gratiot Light Station through December 30. (see details an
page 4-5). Stay tuned for more information and announcements about our spring
‘16 exhibit. Thanks for your patience.

Answers to Questions on page 1
Is it forever? Will the other sites be closing too?
No, in fact we have extended our hours at the other sites, and will reopen the Carnegie Center in Spring
2016
What will happen to the collection? Are you selling everything off?
Definitely not! This time without an exhibit has given our curator, Katherine Bancroft and support
staff ,time to sort and clean out a bit. We had 1,500 lbs., of recycling leave here last week, Tax returns
from the 70’s and 40,000 paper prescriptions from a donation were among the items taken by Secure
Shredding of Port Huron..
What about a Pioneer Day I have booked for my class this fall?
We are still open for all programs and special events, see page 4-5. We can still accommodate more , so
call now!
Will you still take a donation? What about my unexpired membership?
We will always take a donation! f you have an item fto be considered for the collection, please call first.
Your membership is still valid at all the sites and you still have access to discounts on programming and
merchandise. Thanks for understanding!
