With a focus on quality and integrated care while maintaining the fiscal strength of the organization, we are realigning our services in to the following five service lines: Adult Behavioral Health, Community Care, Court and Corrections, Housing, and Youth Behavioral Health. The realignment will allow us to be more responsive to external forces including reduction in government funding, changes in local and state reimbursement, and emerging health care reform initiatives. This change coincides with the Centerpoint Health merger into Talbert House, allowing us to focus all our internal resources on a new way of doing business. A streamlined organizational structure will provide flexibility in service delivery and fully utilize our staff expertise. Ultimately, this realignment is all about the men, women and children who are entrusted in our care each and every day. This change will make it easier for them to access our services and seamlessly take advantage of everything we have to offer across the organization. The result of integrating their care will be improved communication, opportunities and outcomes for our clients, their families, and our community. An affiliate of Talbert House since 2008, Centerpoint maintained an independent 501(c)(3) tax status as well as its own board of trustees. Talbert House has been responsible for the financial, human resources, and quality and clinical services for the agency. The affiliation model that we have used has served us well, and therefore this decision was made after considerable deliberation by the Board of Trustees of both Talbert House and Centerpoint Health. While Centerpoint Health has been performing very well, pending state and local reimbursement changes made it necessary to take action to keep the organization financially strong and to continue to provide quality mental health services and retain jobs. The merger provides us the opportunity to further increase our efficiencies and preempt the impact of these changes on our clients, our staff and the organization as a whole. Centerpoint Health has been rated #1 in Hamilton County the last three years in client outcomes. We are pleased to continue to provide high quality health care and look forward to meeting the needs of our clients and their families well in to the future. We know this merger will place us in a solid position to do so. Antoin: Fatherhood...I’m still growing Antoin came to the Talbert House Fatherhood Project in July 2007 and enrolled in the Nurturing Fathers class. He wanted to learn how to become a great father for his son and newborn daughter. Antoin gained parenting skills and learned about child development. The program has also assisted him in obtaining permanent housing and employment. Through classes Harold Howard, Antoin Martin and daughter Monet and support, he worked to strengthen his relationship with his children and establish visitation with his daughter. When he learned that his daughter and her mother were moving out of state, he received help from Talbert House Legal Services to set up visitation rights through a Distance Agreement. When he continued to encounter issues with cancelled visits, Antoin worked with legal services along with his fatherhood coach. In 2011, Antoin was awarded full custody of his daughter. He maintains a strong, nurturing and loving relationship with both his daughter and son. “I promised my children, they would always know that I am there for them and in turn, they are teaching me more than I am supposed to teach them...I’m still growing” says Antoin. Antoin was recently honored, along with Honorable John J. Gilligan and Honorable Nathaniel R. Jones, as Father of the Year at the 4th Annual Fatherhood Celebration Luncheon. Kimberly Gentry Sperber, Chief Research Officer has recently completed a study on the relationship between the risk to reoffend and treatment dosage that has been accepted for publication in Criminal Justice and Behavior. The study, conducted in partnership with Ed Latessa (University of Cincinnati) and Matt Makarios (University of Wisconsin-Parkside), is important because there are so few published studies that have worked to identify the number of treatment hours that are necessary to reduce recidivism for high risk offenders. The results of this study will help in creating a research agenda around the topic of treatment dosage for correctional populations. Gentry Stevens, Activities & Security Monitor was presented with the Stayin’ Alive Annual Recognition Award at the annual Stayin’ Alive banquet on May 1. Stevens, a leader at Alcoholics Anonymous meetings in the Franklin County, Indiana Security Center, is also active in other drug and alcohol volunteer efforts. Stevens recently fronted a movement to have a Drug Court or another way to help with alcohol and drug abuse and their resulting crimes.
