This was particularly strange, as the prop links to the pupils’ play and the culprit left a number of perplexing clues. Jocie Daly, Year 6 There was much excitement in school last week, as we found something very strange in our playground. Overnight, a very large wooden horse had appeared! The children soon organised a thorough investigation to solve the mystery. The playground and field were full of children searching for clues, collecting evidence and developing theories about where the horse might have come from. Inside the horse, were several ancient Greek artefacts. Some of the pupils from Year 6 interviewed their friends and staff. Here are some photographs and extracts from the reports the children wrote about the strange events... Mr Watt, the headteahcer, exclaimed, “ I had nothing to do with this. I need to find out who it was, and whoever it was won’t be coming back, hopefully.” Shocked pupils and staff at Colburn School in North Yorkshire found an enormous wooden horse standing strong on the playground. Mr Watt, the headteacher, and others think that it appeared between 10.00pm and 12.00am. Late at night, someone or something was caught on the CCTV. Who was the mysterious person? Pupils found things like footprints, nail varnish, a golf club, a scarf, a key and some flour. Mrs Pearson, from the school office, saw a black figure in the darkness on the CCTV. The footage showed that it was Mrs Pickersgill, who told pupils that she had been looking for her cat, Zoe. Luke Connolly, aged eleven, said, “I was a bit scared because I didn’t know who it was. I still don’t know, but whoever it was, they had better not be planning to come back.” Mrs Pickersgill, a school governor, explained, “I was looking for my cat, Zoe, at around midnight. I thought she might have gone to play on the school field. She was stuck up a tree. When I climbed up the tree to get her, I dropped my scarf. As I glanced around to find it, I noticed something strange out of the corner of my eye. I didn’t know what to do, so I grabbed Zoe and left.” Bradley Goldring, Year 5 Early in the morning, as the children of Colburn School arrived through the school gates, they sighted a mysterious wooden structure. Quickly, the staff and pupils crowded around it. Mr Watt, the headteacher, stared in horror. When Mr Donaldson opened his emails, he found a message from Marie-Claire Smith, who is a journalist in the USA. She mentioned about the horse arriving in school and questioned Year 5 to see if anything suspicious had happened. She begged them to tell her more information. Amazed and petrified students and staff from Colburn School discovered a huge wooden horse in their school playground. No-one knows how the horse arrived. Miss Nicholas, the deputy head, was shocked, amazed and confused. Ulamila Turagavagone, Year 5 Adelaide Oxtoby, Year 6 We still have no idea who put this weird, wondrous object here, but I am sure this will not be the end of it. If you have any more evidence or information about this Trojan horse, please contact Colburn School. Thank you. Morgan Tonner, Year 6 A great big wooden horse has appeared on a school playground in Colburn, North Yorkshire. All of the pupils and staff were shocked when a wooden horse was found standing tall in the corner of the playground. As the pupils ran through the gates, they stopped and gathered around to see an 8 foot long wooden horse. The pupils and staff investigated and found 2 scarves, footprints, tyre tracks and a key. Chloe Sharp, aged nine, said, “I heard helicopters around at night and in the morning.” The mystery continues. All the pupils started to search the school grounds for clues. They are still investigating the mystery and hope to find out who did it. Will we ever find out what really happened? Chloe Sharp, Year 5 Luke McGregor, Year 5
