VALLEY OF ERIE CONGRATULATES
DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS
Ill. William L. McCarrier, 33˚, Deputy for Pennsylvania (center) is
pictured here with the Valley of Erie’s newly coroneted 33rd Degree
Honorary members, Ill. John H. Daneri, 33˚ (left) and Ill. Richard
B. Elberfeld, Jr., 33˚ (right). The ceremony was held at the Warner
Theater in Washington, D.C. on August 20, 2013, at the annual
meeting of the Supreme Council Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite
Northern Masonic Jurisdiction. A contingent from the Valley of
Erie enjoyed excellent degree work in addition to the sights and
restaurants of Washington, D.C. Being coroneted as a Thirty-third
degree mason is an honor that is bestowed upon a member who has
exhibited exceptional knowledge, passion, and sacrifice to his craft. Ill.
Brother Daneri is currently serving as Orator for the Erie Consistory,
and Ill. Brother Elberfeld is the Secretary of the Valley of Erie.
Bro. Paul J. Gornall, 32˚, MSA received the Meritorious Service Award at the
Pennsylvania Council of Deliberation meeting held in Hershey, PA in July. The MSA is
conferred upon a member of the Rite who has attained the 32nd degree and by reason
of meritorious service of a Masonic character is deemed worthy of such recognition.
Paul joins twenty-seven members of the Valley of Erie who have also received the
Meritorious Service Award, including his brother Robert D. Gornall, Jr.
Ill. Michael A. Koncewicz, 33˚, MSA, is also to be congratulated on receiving the York
Rite Order of the Purple Cross for service to Masonry, Christianity and Community this
summer. He and his wife recently returned from an exciting tour which included visits to
Italy, Spain, Greece, and Turkey.

DUES AND DUES CARDS
Frequently Asked Question: I paid my dues but did not
receive a dues card…why not?
Answer: Scottish Rite Dues cards are permanent now. They
are hard plastic like a credit card. Regular cards are grey
in color and Life member cards are gold. You should have
received one of these in 2011 or 2012. If you absolutely cannot find yours,
please notify the office by calling 835-0432, so we can order you a new one.

The Scottish Rite News
The light of Freemasonry is brightened when Brethren explore the meaning of the degrees of the
Scottish Rite. The degree allegories represent the flaws of man and offer a moral prescription
which begins with faith in God and love for fellow man. Other core values that come together in
the mosaic of Scottish Rite Freemasonry are respect for justice, personal integrity, devotion to
country, and service to humanity through enactment of charity.
