WHKP Welcomes You To The
65th Annual North Carolina Apple Festival
WHKP and the NC Apple Festival celebrate a milestone this
year - 65 years! In 1946 WHKP signed on the air, and also in
1946 the Apple Festival was born. WHKP is pleased to be one of
the major sponsors of this year’s event.
WHKP also salutes our apple growers. This hasn’t been the easiest year to grow apples. Several hail storms came through our
Richard Rhodes
area and some growers lost part of their crop. The good news is
the demand for apples is way up. One of our local growers told me that loose apples in the
box are bringing $11 a bushel - that’s a great price! WHKP encourages you to visit one of
our growers and buy lots of fresh Henderson County apples.
We have worked hard providing you all the information you need for this year’s festival. This
handy guide contains all the important events. We also encourage you to stay tuned to #1
WHKP for up to the minute information on events.
Here in WHKP’s 65th birthday year we are pleased to lead all radio stations in listenership in or coming in to Henderson County. Thanks for listening and make plans now to attend
our open house Sunday October 23rd.

Big Poppa’s Forge Mountain Applesauce Cake
Yellow cake mix made with pudding
2 -16 oz. jars Forge Mountain Natural Applesauce
1-jar Forge Mountain Apple Butter Pancake Syrup
Make cake according to manufacturer’s directions. Let rest until cool.
Take a
good length of dental floss and carefully use it to slice each layer into 4 thinner layers. Spread layer with applesauce , drizzle apple butter syrup on top and
continue to layer until you reach the last layer (be careful…it will be delicate)
Top with applesauce, apple butter syrup and sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg.
Let sit overnight if possible, covered with cellophane. If cake is a tad dry on
top next day, add a bit of the apple butter syrup to moisten.
Applesauce and syrup soak into cake and make it melt in your mouth.

WHKP’s Sports Crew - High School Football 2011
Live coverage of Henderson
County High School football resumes for the 65th consecutive
year over 1450 AM WHKP.
WHKP’s Chuck Hill, MIke Orr and
Garren Orr are poised again this
year to bring you 12 regular season
games and hopefully several playoff
(L-R) Chuck Hill, Mike Orr & Garren Orr games as well.
WHKP selects its “Weichert Realtors Game of the Week” by
looking at each of our four area high school schedules and
then we try and pick the best game, while being fair to cover
all our schools. When two Henderson County teams play we
obviously broadcast that as a priority game.
Friday Night Finals with Will Rhodes
Get all the WNC footall scores immediately following the
WHKP game of the week. You can also check the scores at
www.whkp.com - look for the high school football link.
