The Joys of Fall
Fall is always my favorite time of year. Several
years ago country music star Kenny Chesney
recorded “The Boys of Fall,” a song about the
excitement of football season in America.
Chesney’s song highlighted the competitive
aspect of the sport and the many levels involved
from grade school to professional. In addition to
the song he produced a documentary that includes
interviews with football coaches at different levels
of from all over the country.
For me, the first cool front of the fall season is a
welcome event for several reasons. First, the light

hurricane season along the Gulf Coast
of Texas. But more importantly, it ushers
in the best of times for many of America’s
sports fans knowing that the smell of pigskin
is in the air.
Everyone who knows me will agree that
I am an avid sports fan. I enjoy attending
Astros and Texans games, Aggies and
Longhorns (my son and daughter are
alumni), and I have had my high school’s
football season tickets for almost 40 years.
I never missed an event when my children
were involved, and now try to view my
grandkids’ games no matter what the sport.
I find great pleasure in watching people
compete, no matter what age group or
venue.

Competition is fierce in the banking industry. Our local markets are crowded
with mega-banks, regional banks, community banks, tax-exempt credit unions
and a number of non-bank financial institutions that complete for both loans
and deposits. As all businesses compete for their share of the market, we
know that we are going to win a few and lose a few of our battles. Sometimes
the score is close, and other times one of our competitors is willing to get
out of their comfort zone to win the game. My forty years in the banking
business has to taught me that to be successful, you have to have a solid
game plan and stick with it, but always be willing to make a tweak or two
along the way.

for two years and the funds will go towards an
enrichment program involving music at the facility.
As I approach a mid-sixties birthday in November, father time appears to be
moving a little faster each year. However, I must admit that this time of year
I continue to experience what Chesney sings about: “When I feel that chill,
smell that fresh cut grass, I’m back in my helmet, cleats, and shoulder pads.
Standing in the huddle, listening to the call, fans go crazy for the boys of fall.”
Although it took a while, I now know that putting on the pads and playing
again on Friday night is not going to happen.
But working with my great team, designing a game plan and competing for our
share of the market has never been more exciting. Bring on the “Joys of Fall!”

HomeTown Team Milestones
Assistant Vice President Diana Torres recently celebrated her
30th anniversary with HomeTown Bank. Starting as a Teller at
the Gaveston Main Bank in 1985, Torres progressed to Teller
Supervisor, then Bookkeeping Assistant Supervisor, and she
was promoted to Assistant Vice President in January, 2014.
Vice President Judy Lacy recently
celebrated her 10th anniversary at
HomeTown Bank. She joined the
HomeTown Team as a teller at the League City Branch in 2005,
moved to the Friendswood Bay Area Branch as Operations
Manager in 2010, and was promoted to Vice President in 2013.
Lacy is a resident of League City and a graduate of La Marque
High School, with over 40 years of
experience in the Bay Area financial
industry.

Scott Asimakis has joined HomeTown Bank’s Downtown
Friendswood branch office as Assistant Vice President and Loan
Officer. Asimakis is a 2001 Friendswood High School graduate
who earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and business at the
University of Texas at Austin. He has nearly a decade of banking
experience.
