Swim for Diabetes Stars Ten year old Peter Dawson swam in his 9th Swim for Diabetes this year and raised $4,900! Peter's family has been affected by diabetes in numerous ways; having several family members with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Supporting Diabetes Partnership of Cleveland is very important to Peter and the Dawson family because they know how challenging the disease can be. Peter plans on continuing to participate in Swim for Diabetes for many years to come but has already raised over $20,000 in his Swim career! Thank you Peter! Garfield resident Julie Titus has been volunteering for Swim for Diabetes for the last 5 years. After being diagnosed with diabetes 6 years ago and learning about the disease, she was instantly motivated to get involved and help other people going through the same challenges that she was experiencing. Inspired by the mission of Diabetes Partnership and the Swim for Diabetes, Julie donated from her wedding to Diabetes Partnership of Cleveland. Your continued support is much appreciated, Julie! Twenty seven years ago Karen Siimon saw an advertisement on a bus for the very first Swim for Diabetes. She became involved to support her mother and grandmother who both had diabetes. Since her first Swim twenty seven years ago, Karen has participated ten other swims. Her grandmother has since passed away, but her mother still struggles from complications of the disease which is why swimming to support Diabetes Partnership is so important to Karen.
