IEEE802.3ba and IEEE802.3bm are the 2 standards ratifying 40 and 100G Ethernet parallel optics solutions. 4 Lanes Parallel Optics IEEE802.3ba was ratified in June 2010. The standard defines 40GBASE-SR4 which uses four lanes of multimode FIBRE delivering serialized data at a rate of 10Gb/s per lane. QSFP+ transceiver is adopted and from cabling side 12-fibre MTP/MPO connector should be used. IEEE802.3bm was released on Mar 2015 and defines 100GBASE-SR4. This solution uses four lanes at 25Gb/s per lane and 8 fibres will be used for one 100G port. Therefore, we could use the same cabling infrastructure to upgrade the network from 40GBASESR4 to 100GBASE-SR4.
