SECURING THE FUTURE TOGETHER
Annual Report
2010-2011
Message from the Chancellor
This year marks 44 years that LSU Shreveport has been educating students and serving the higher education needs of
the Shreveport-Bossier metro area. The mission of the University has remained steadfast: help members of our community
improve their lives through quality higher education. As the only public, four-year institution in the community, we look
forward to continuing in our role as a vital institution.
The 2010-11 fiscal year brought a renewed spirit to the campus. While budget cuts still present challenges, LSUS has
continued to offer a quality education at a highly affordable price. This year, the U.S. Department of Education named
LSUS the 15th most affordable four-year, public college in the nation and the most affordable in the State of Louisiana.
But that’s not all the good news. Here are just a few of the accomplishments of our outstanding faculty and staff:
• Our number of dual enrollment students continues to climb. With almost 900 students participating from 13 area
high schools, our students are getting a head start on their college credits.
• The Animation and Visual Affects program continues to grow and develop partnerships with local cutting-edge
companies, such as Moonbot Studios.
• Students in the Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) program participated in conferences at the United
States Naval Academy and the United States Air Force Academy. They will also host a leadership conference for
area high school students this fall.
• LSUS was named a Military Friendly School by G.I. Jobs Magazine for our dedication to recruiting and serving
members of the military.
• Seven faculty members secured Board of Regents Support Funds totaling over $98,000.
As we move into the new fiscal year, we are optimistic about our future and the future of Northwest Louisiana. Through
our collaborations with local employers and other education institutions, we are ensuring there is a skilled workforce
pipeline for the high-paying jobs of the future. But we also know that none of this would be possible without you, our
community partners.
Thank you for all you do to support LSUS.

Since the inception of the Board of Regents Support Programs, in
1987, LSU Shreveport has benefited from private donations in the
amount of $6,276,341 and from state matching funds in the
amount of $4,080,000, for a total contributed endowment
amount of $10,356,341. These funds help LSUS attract and retain
valuable faculty members. First Generation Scholarship funds
help provide financial assistance to deserving first generation
students at LSUS.
Endowed Scholarships
Scholarships provide the opportunity to change the lives of students who might not have the resources to attend
college. Creating a scholarship is a unique way to connect students to the community through a donor’s
generosity. Endowed scholarships are an investment in both current and future generations of students. A
minimum contribution of $10,000 perpetually funds an endowed scholarship. Annual scholarships are funded
each year by the donor and are renewed at their discretion.

The Dr. Lacy and Edie Williams Circle of Excellence Plaza, dedicated in 2008, continues to be a favorite location
for students, faculty, staff and guests to relax and enjoy the fresh air. The LSUS Foundation sponsored wireless
internet service within the Plaza, and this feature is enjoyed by all. On April 27, 2011, the Van Thyn Memorial
Bench was dedicated to coincide with Shreveport’s Annual Holocaust Remembrance Service. The center
plaque memorializes Mr. Louis and Dr. Rose Van Thyn, Holocaust survivors and educators in Shreveport from
1956 to 2010. The Van Thyn Family and Dr. Patricia T. Bates, LSUS professor emeritus of English and Provost & Vice
Chancellor for Academic Affairs (retired), sponsored the new bench. Commemorative bricks and benches may
be purchased at any time by calling 318-797-5190 or accessing the secure online form.
LSU Shreveport Alumni Association
The 13th Annual LSUS Alumni Capital One Pilots Golf Classic held May 6, 2011 at Olde Oaks Golf Club in Haughton, La.,
raised $20,550 for scholarships and programs that benefit LSUS. The tournament has contributed more than $195,000 to
LSUS in its thirteen-year history. The success of the Pilots Classic rests on the university’s faithful business partners who
sponsor teams, provide food and beverages, and donate prizes. Alumni Board members and volunteers, as well as staff
and faculty, provide the manpower that makes the tournament run smoothly.
The 3rd Annual Silent Auction at RiverBend Revue continued the Alumni
Association’s success by offering another group of quality items
including trips to Colorado, Kauai and the Gulf Coast, designer jewelry,
specialty dinners, sports memorabilia, season tickets and limited-edition
art. Three former Distinguished Alumni were honored in the rousing
“Wednesday Night Fever” musical revue – John M. Good, Jr., Dr. Phillip
Rozeman and Michael H. Woods. Sheriff Steve Prator, BGS 1975, acted
as emcee. High bidders generated more than $17,600 for LSUS
scholarships, programs, projects and services. The auction has raised
$51,000 in its three-year history. The Silent Auction Committee, including
six young alumni volunteers, helped plan and host the event, obtain
donations, decorate the auction area, process purchases and deliver
items to winners.
LSU Shreveport Alumni Association
The three-year Race To Win Scholarship Campaign, begun in 2008-09, continued through 2010-11 with a final theme
of Race To Win: Crossing The Finish Line. The campaign created a $2 million endowed scholarship fund designed to
attract new top students to the university. In 2008 The Noel Foundation committed a $1,000,000 endowment,
thereby establishing the Ruth Herring Noel Endowed Scholarship for Top Scholars. Alumni contributed 11.9% of all
annual campaign gifts for 2010-11. During the first two weeks of November 2010, a “phonathon” targeting select
alumni was conducted by LSUS students and was monitored by LSUS staff and alumni.
The 2011-12 Annual Campaign kicked off in November 2011.
Help us continue to Give Opportunity and Build Value for our
