During this time we will support and assist you in finding your home. Once you have chosen an area and found your property, there are a few things you need to know. Your landlord is responsible for making the property fit for living in. He or she must make sure that water, electricity and gas supplies, and sanitation units, are in working order and ensure that the property is free from damp. The property must also have adequate heating, lighting and ventilation. If the property is furnished, the landlord must ensure that those furnishings meet the fire resistance standards and that all gas appliances and installations are maintained in good order and that an annual safety check is carried out. In turn, as a tenant, you are responsible for paying the rent as agreed and taking proper care of the property. You are also responsible for paying the bills for gas, electricity, water, telephone, internet, tv license and council tax. We strongly recommend that you read your tenancy contract thoroughly, as it will also detail notice periods for you and the landlord. Experience shared. The following are popular websites for researching accommodation www.spareroom.co.uk The Tenant Information Pack provides important information to tenants about property conditions, tenancy agreements and the rights and responsibilities of landlords and tenants. It can be found on the following link http://www.landlords.org.uk/nla-form/tenantinformation-pack-england [email protected] | +44 (0) 20 8 714 1028 | sitel.com Health Care Entitlement to state provided health care, provided by the NHS in the UK, is currently based on residency status and not nationality. If you are coming from overseas to work in the UK and you live here legally, you can get health care from the NHS while you are here. Most healthcare in the UK is provided free of charge. The exception is dental care. State run dentists are subsidized by the government, however, there is usually a small charge to pay. Depending on the treatment you require, this can vary from around £10 and is capped at £384 for complex dental treatments, You should try to register with a local doctor (known as a GP) and dentist as quickly as possible. The following link will enable you to locate a doctor in your area. http://www.nhs.uk/Service-Search/GP/LocationSearch/4 The following link will enable you to locate a dentist in your area. http://www.nhs.uk/Service-Search/Dentist/LocationSearch/3 The following link will enable you to locate the nearest Accident and Emergency hospital or Walk in Centre in your area. http://www.nhs.uk/Service-Search/Accident-and-emergencyservices/LocationSearch/428 Experience shared. [email protected] | +44 (0) 20 8 714 1028 | sitel.com Opening a Bank Account You will probably wish to open a UK bank account once you are in the UK. It is useful to make some preparations for this before you leave your home country to aid the process. Banks have increased their security measures over recent years and because of this it may take around 2 weeks for your account to be open and for you to be able to make transactions. It is therefore very important that you bring with you sufficient funds to cover your expenses for this early period. Do however avoid bringing large sums of cash with you. We will provide you with all the support you need including proof of address letters in order for you to open a bank account.
