Abstract
After the course developed workshop in Ohrid, prof. Zoltan Zavargo presented the results
from the workshop before the TV mediums. The interview was broadcasted during the

Abstract
The challenge of engineers towards sustainability is to promote zero manufacturing
waste, develop molecules that are not persistent, toxic and bioaccummulative as well as to
have no hazardous manufacturing processes. These goals typically result in common
practices among engineers to design new processes and products and to upgrade the
existing ones satisfying the three aspects of sustainability i.e. economic development,
environmental protection and societal goods.
Examples for design of materials for sustainable solutions will be presented in this
paper. Porous TiO2 with high surface area presents environmentally-friendly product that
purified water. Powder technology was employed in this investigation to design material
with controlled porosity where titania oxides transform into non stehiometric Magnelly
phases.
Silicate based wastes, like coal combustion ash, slag from metallurgical processes,
fly ash and filter dusts from waste incinerators, mud from metal hydrometallurgy, different
types of sludge as well as glass cullet or mixtures of them have been considered as raw
materials for design different products like glass ceramics, building materials etc.
Utilization of fly ash from thermal powder plant will be presented as an example for
sustainable solutions.

Abstract
Plastic food packaging materials should not be endangering human health, should not bring
about unacceptable changes to the composition of the food, and should not bring about a
deterioration of the organoleptic characteristics of the food. Most polvmer surfaces are
inert, hvdrophobic in nature, and usuallv have a low surface energy. Therefore, they do not
possess specific surface properties needed in various applications, and their surfaces need
to be treated to obtain polymers with desired surface properties in various instances.
