CI Lipa together with other
JCI members from all over the
Philippines came together as first-timers to
the very first 100th year celebration of the
many centennial anniversaries to come for
Junior Chamber International (JCI)
JCI’s ‘100 Years of Creating a Better World
Together’ Gala Celebration held last May 30,
2015 at the Solaire Resort and Casino was
indeed a massive success that was flawlessly
headed by National Chairman Beata Jarantilla.
The event kicked-off with the JCI’s values,
mission, and vision; and were afterwards
followed by the recollection of JCI’s rich history
and accomplishments.
The Philippines, historically being the very
first Jaycees movement in Asia, never fails
to prove its active involvement every year in
bringing positive change – and to recognize
that success, four Filipino JCI World Presidents
graced the stage: 1997 JCI World President
Crispin Dy Jr., 1985 JCI World President Victor
Jose “Chicos” I. Luciano, 1950-1951 JCI World
President Ramon V. Del Rosario, and 1976
JCI World President Feliciano Belmonte, Jr.
who also was the night’s Guest of Honor as
he delivered a speech that inspired young
leaders of the country to continue making and
spreading that JCI Impact.
This unforgettable evening ended with JCI
National President Marc Brian Lim’s message
to elevate the spirit of Jayceeism and to
challenge the rest of JCI Philippines in their
start of creating another one hundred years of
positive change to the nation – because JCI is
not about small changes, but rather about lifelong impact.

LIPA CELEBRATES JCI WEEK
by: JCI Jr Mitra & JCI Paolo Katigbak
The Junior Chamber International Lipa recently
concluded their celebration of the JCI Week. The
event comprised of projects that aim to promote the
organization to the community, and to initiate programs
that are guided by the 6 tenets of the JCI Values; all
geared towards the development of JCI members and
their immediate community.
The 7-day event launched on May 12, kickedoff with a motorcade around the city, followed by
thanksgiving mass and a “salu-salo” lunch with JCI Lipa
members. On the same day, the Chapter’s adopted
community in Hillview, Antipolo del Sur, also witnessed
the groundbreaking of their soon-to-be day care center
and playground.
On the second day, a courtesy call to the office of the
city mayor was done with the purpose of strengthening
the Chapter’s partnership with the local government.
Day three was focused on the environment and featured
different seminars and talks related to environmental
sustainability and member’s development. One of the

highlights of the day is the launching of the new project:
It’s All About SALT (Sustainable Alternative Lighting).
The annual Beyond Prison Walls project was held
on the fourth day in the Lipa City Jail. And on the fifth
day, a joint meeting with JCI groups from Batangas,
Tanauan and San Pablo culminated with a sport fest.
With an effort to help the local government in reducing
unemployment, JCI-Lipa invited employers from different
sectors to their Job Fair entitled JOBapalooza 2015;
held on May 17, 2015 at Robinsons Place-Lipa.
Day seven was spent in Bulacnin Elementary
School, and with the assistance from volunteers, doctors
and nurses, barangay officials and policemen, JCI-Lipa
held Go For Health, Go For Positive Change, a Medical/
Dental Mission.
Capping the weeklong celebration, JCI Lipa
launched Aquaholics, an awarding and fellowship event
to recognize the efforts of members for a job well done
week of fruitful projects for the organization and the
community. The celebration was held in Dante’s Place,
Mataas na Kahoy.
JCI Lipa constructed a new daycare for their
adopted community in Sitio Hillview, Barangay Antipolo
del Sur, Lipa City. This is a Legacy project of LO Pres.
Aysa Garcia, which was chaired by JCI Riva Lasala
and co-chaired by Baby JCI Mel Tadeo. The Daycare
Center was blessed by Father Ted and officially turned
over to the adopted community last June 7, with the
primary benefactor, Counselor Patmon.
Sitio Hillview’s original bamboo daycare was
destroyed by typhoon Glenda last July 17, 2014. After
a year of coordination with the local government and
private benefactors, JCI Lipa was able to pool funds
and materials to start the construction for a new
daycare to serve the needs of the children in the
community. In line with the chapter’s dedication to support
and promote education among the youth, JCI Lipa
initiated the Bags to School project during the turnover
ceremonies. Daycare students were given backpacks
filled with school materials, snacks, and other goodies
to start the school with high spirits. This project was
chaired by JCI member and Lipa City Councilor Kaye
Briones with co-chair JCI Joan Amargo. JCI Lipa at ASPAC ‘15

JCI Lipa attended the 2015 JCI Asia Pacific
Conference (ASPAC) held at Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia
from June 11-14. Headed by LO President Maria Aysa
Manalo, there were 5 participants who represented
the Local Organization in the said convention. Along
with President Manalo were Immediate Past President
Melvin Dimaculangan, Executive Vice President Jose
Paolo Katigbak, Treasurer Cayo Katigbak and Local
Training Director Gerald Deuda.
The ASPAC conference was laden with activities
and events that members could attend and participate
in. JCI Lipa attended the JCI Morning Show and
participated in different skills development sessions like
the JCI Leadership training facilitated by WTC Kenneth
Kabique.
JCI Lipa joined the rest of JCI Philippines delegates
in various conference events and activities. JCIP had
more than 100 participants to the conference. During
the awards ceremony, JCI Philippines won 4 awards
at the 2015 JCI ASPAC: Most Outstanding New Local
Organization - JCI Imus Wagayway, Most Outstanding
Local Organization - JCI Manila, Most Outstanding
Business Development Project - JCI Manila, and Most
Outstanding National Flagship Program - Project 101!
Katigbak makes the Finals (continued)
The Public Speaking finals was held as timed
agenda during the General Assembly II. The winner
was announced during the awards ceremony, last June
14, where Cambodia was hailed as the representative of
the Asia and the Pacific to the 2015 JCI World Congress
in Kanazawa, Japan
The 2015 JCI Area Conference topics were
chosen by JCI members in each Area through an
online survey. There are two separate topics for each
round of the JCI Public Speaking Championship. The
preliminary competition topic was Education is the key
to empowering our next generation out of poverty, and
the final competition topic was Access to technology is
the key to empowering young people.
DAGOS mga Lipeno!
by: JCI JR Mitra
To celebrate oneness and communal effort amongst
JCI Lipa members, the DAGOS 2015 Race was
conceptualized as this years’ ultimate teambuilding
activity. The DAGOS Race came to mean: Developing
Attitudes Geared towards Outstanding Service.
JCI Lipa members were grouped into 6 teams a day
before the race, namely: Masikap, Matatag, Marunong,
Magiting, Mahusay and Masigla. Members of each team
were pre-selected by the project committee to ensure a
balanced distribution of members and to acquaint the
Baby JCI with regular members.
On the race day, participants had to endure physical,
mental, and emotional challenges, over an 80-kilometer
course, across 5 cities, and with 10 obstacles.
In true JCI Lipa spirit, every project of the chapter
needs to create impact to the community. As such, SOS
Children’s Village served as a beneficiary of one of the
challenge that the teams will be completing.
Other challenges highlighted popular sites in the
different cities included in the race. For example, a selfie
task with San Jose’s egg marker, and a visit to Ibaan’s
oldest church were included as race activities.
The final challenge was held by the beach and
participants had to unearth puzzle pieces from the
sand and complete the word puzzle of JCI Values and
Mission. Team Masikap emerged as the winner of the
race followed by Team Matatag and Team Magiting for
the 2nd and 3rd spot, respectively.
