What a fantastic season we have been having!!
The Happy Hour on June 27th was hosted by Bob and
Carol Green and their crew, Dina Brandenstein, Beth &
Lou Delli-Pizzi, Gerard & Christina Mulé, Katie &
Gary Salatto, Kristy McGoldrick, Ron & Rosemary
Piciullo, Chrissy O’Donnell, Angela Cosentino, and
Christina Cappelluzzo. They did an excellent job
preparing pulled pork, firecracker shrimp, chicken saté,
and steak tidbits. This great food was washed down
with a fantastic and very potent rum punch.
The Brophy Happy Hour was fun. You guessed it, the
evening’s signature Martini drinks were hands down the
hit of the party. I am sure it was a slow Thursday for a
lot of us. Awesome food, and awesome drink, what
could be better! The BYC was definitely shaken and
not stirred. They had a lot of help from Tim & Kim
Turri, Megan & Dennis Kelly, Amy & Tom Moore, Gina
& Sal Capitano, Catherine & Bill Hitter, Karen & Tony
Gambino, Harr y & Nancy O’Donnel l, Donna
Woyevodsky, Stacey & Day Hoffman, Alexis & Dave
Mottes, Maryellen Curlfo, and Ginny Horan. Keep
those watermelon martinis coming! They prepared
zucchini with gorgonzola, beef and shrimp skewers,
bacon and water chestnuts, a Greek salad, clam
chowder, a fantastic lobster mac and cheese, all
topped off with cupcakes, peanut butter topped
brownies, salted caramel treats, and my personal
favorite, Belgium waffles with berries.
There are a few changes to the ScheduleThe Frat Party is moving back to a later date.
Standing in on July 21st will be the Galian’s hosting
an Asian/Karoke themed party. Join Carl and
Sandy Galian and their crew for an evening of Asian
fare and Karaoke on July 21st. Sake, Mai Tais, and
great Far East food. If you’ve been to a Galian Happy
Hour, then you know the food and entertainment
will be top notch. A DJ will be spinning great music
between sets of BYC members belting out their
favorite tunes. Please make reser vations by
contacting the Galian's at 631-669-1796.
On July 25th the Carangi’s will be hosting their BYCrenowned “Around the World” Happy Hour. Last

The Frat party hosted by the Jill & Matt Shook

have come off without your expertise, time, help and

Corinthian II was held on July 4th. This was opened
up to other sailors and there were a total of 12 boats.
The weather held and it was a nice day. The after
party was terrific. It was set up under the Gazebo and
Dave Hyer led the charge on the Grill. He was
assisted by Greg Schneller, Dickie Burns and Daisy
Holzmacher. Everyone really enjoyed it, thank you.
Corinthian III was held on July 6th. Larry Schaefer,
Trudi Guarino and Kathy Olsen ran the Race
Committee. There were eleven boats and once again
the weather held. Jerry Dunnells took first place, Greg
Schneller was second and Jim Reichel was third.
Andrew and Krista Hemingway hosted the after party
and it was wonderful. They set up picnic tables on the
T-Dock, complete with table cloths and hurricane
lamps! We were treated to a delicious dinner of skirt
steak, barbecued chicken and salads. There was reggae
playing and it was a fabulous evening. What a nice
idea and again, everyone really enjoyed it. Thank you
so much Andrew and Krista.

July 10th turned out to be a perfect day for our
second luncheon this season. The sell-out crowd
enjoyed a delicious lunch of cheese and crackers,
homemade chicken salad with fruit, date-nut
bread, and sherbet with blueberries and a cookie.
Our hostess, Sandy Matamala, was assisted by a
competent, lively committee consisting of Lynne
Fallon, Lucy Nagel, Janet Florin, Janet Hogan,
Terri Elmstrom, Eileen Farrell, Margaret Bell, Lisa
O'Connor, and Jackie Miller. Your hard work was
appreciated by everyone. Great lunch ladies!
We were slated to have one more luncheon in
August, but Mary Rinklin and Rin Robinson
volunteered to have a luncheon on July 31st. Some ladies have already signed up, but if you
haven't, give Mary or Rin a call. Mary can be
reached at 669-3147, and Rin at 422-9030. They'd be delighted to hear from you.
Our last luncheon will be held on August 14th. The hostess will be Barbara Schaefer. Thanks
Barbara for volunteering once again.

The Relay Carnival was the first meet of the year.
This is a fun event where all the clubs that compete
against each other during the season come and race
relays only. The first event is The Crescendo. It
starts with boys – one child from each age group
swims. When they get to the oldest age group, it
switches to girls and then comes back down. The
meet has a very fun atmosphere and the children
really enjoy it.
Our first official meet of the season was against the
Long Island Yacht Club. It was held at LIYC and
the BYC was victorious with a final score of 242 to
157. It was a beautiful night and the kids swam
beautifully. Coaches Casey McGowan and Lauren
Goodwin must be proud! The second meet was held
at the BYC. They raced against Green Harbor.
Again, the BYC was victorious with a final score of
289 to 168! Great job! Keep up the good work.
Next week, the team goes to Unqua on Tuesday and
then we have a home meet on Thursday against
Biltmore Beach Club. Please remember that the
pool closes at 5pm on the days when we have a home
swim meet.
JUNIORS POOL PARTY
We had a fantastic pool party on July 8th. Sixty
plus kids had great fun splashing around with
floats and noodles. They enjoyed hot dogs, drinks
and ice cream.
The annual CANDLELIGHT SAIL was
kicked off with some fine cooking from Mike
Barrett and crew. Our outstanding MC for the
evening was Paul Steinberg. Thank you to
Laurence Schaefer, Kristina Kennedy, Zander
Bisson and Sophie Benzakin who helped retrieve
boats, and to all the our judges.
Thirty-seven participants raced their creative
crafts across the pool with the help of just the
right amount of evening breeze. The first round
of boats to race was juniors, 6 and under. The
winners were: First place: Emily and Katlyn
Dean, second went to Eric Heimlich and third to
Nick Galian. In the 7 to 10 years old group,
placing first was CJ Galian, second place went
to Lars Heimlich, and third went to Ryan Duffy.
Something new this year – we are having an East vs.
In the 11 years and older group, first place went

On the evening of July 4th, between 11:00pm and
5:00am, a boat belonging to one of our members
was broken into and some very expensive electronic
equipment was taken. We know that there were
several similar incidents during that same time
period that occurred in the Babylon, West Islip area
and would like to remind all our members who use
the club slips, to be cautious and vigilant. Please Mike Barrett
remember to secure your boats as best possible, and
to remove any valuables that you are able to.
