Almería is an attractive city with a rich historical
quarter. Its most emblematic monumental heritage is the Alcazaba fortress, the largest standing
Moorish fortress in Europe.
The City of Almería is located in the south east
of the Iberian Peninsula. It is the European city
with the most hours of sunlight a year, with over
190,000 inhabitants. It is a peaceful and welcoming city, full of contrasts. It boasts 40 km of interesting beaches on which to enjoy the sun and
beach or nature tourism, especially with the virgin beaches of Cabo de Gata Natural Park. It has
an important commercial and passenger port and
a busy airport. In 2005 Almería hosted the XV
Mediterranean Games providing the city with numerous sports facilities and equipment. The City
of Almería is developing as an important player
within business tourism, bringing together countless attractions for the visitor and offering: important monuments, culture, nature, gastronomy,
accommodations, golf, leisure; all combining to
make it an urban centre of great interest.

El Toyo makes up part of the municipality of the city of Almería. It is located
some 12 km from the capital, next to the international airport and is the
gateway to the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata. Its infrastructure was created as
part of the Olympic City for the 2005 Mediterranean Games.
Located in the province of Almería, El Toyo-Cabo
de Gata is one of the most outstanding examples
of the Spanish Mediterranean coast of so-called
sustainable sun and beach tourism. This tourist
complex, situated between the city of Almería
and the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata, is one of
the most spectacular spots in the south of Andalucía.
It occupies a total of 260 hectares and has a less
than 10% building density.

Due to its location within this area, that boasts
many features such as tranquility and the proximity to the sea, this exhibition and congress centre is the ideal place for any event. This is complemented by a high standard of hotels, bars and

Also in El Toyo you can find some public buildings,
such as the local television station Interalmería, a
school, the Ciudad Digital (digital city), the Multipurpose Building constructed for the 2005 Mediterranean Games, which has a Sports Centre and
Congress Area, and a High Resolution Hospital, El
Toyo.
Nowadays the growing leisure offer is based on
adventure sports, camel rides, scuba diving etc.
The building style is of apartment complexes of
varying heights with swimming pools and sports
courts in their private grounds. They are surrounding the golf course and in the centre of this, there is an area of de-luxe villas. All of El Toyo is
crossed by an extensive network of cycle lanes

The Congress Office is in a specialized area within the department of tourism in the Town Hall of
Almería. Their objectives are based on promoting
and developing the city as a venue for congresses, conventions and incentive trips amongst other
things.

It was constructed in 1992 in the unmistakable
“Moneo” style. It is an indoor theatre with the
public facing the stage. A variety of different ac-
tivities are held here from; opera performances,
theatre, congress and exhibitions, for which there
are 2 galleries. There is free parking available at
the complex.

Opened in 1998, it has fine facilities where temporary exhibitions of contemporary artists are
held; besides this, it also hosts various cultural
events. Located next to the NH City hotel of Almería, which in the immediate vicinity has a taxi
rank and the railway and bus station.

Constructed by Jairán in the 11th century they
provided the public water supply to Almería. Now
they form part of the cultural and social life of the
city; as well as this, they are the headquarters of
the Peña Flamenca (fan association) El Taranto.

bus stop nearby.

One of the most emblematic buildings dating
back to around 1881. Refurbished in 1993, this
theatre, located in the centre of Almería has two
public car parks in the immediate vicinity, as well

Opened in 2012, in the building that was formerly the Casa de la Juventud (youth club), the
EMMA is a modern space devoted to excellence.
It is designed to offer different artistic disciplines
and is a place open to everybody, where they also
hold other events and activities. It has more than
1,300 m2 divided onto 6 floors.

It is a museum dedicated to the world of the Spanish guitar and its special relationship with the city
of Almería. This functional space is strategically
situated in the historical quarter. It offers an interpretive and entertaining insight; full of historical, traditional and up to date references into the
guitar and its designer par excellence, Antonio de
Torres Jurado (Almería 1817-1892), who designed
the classical guitar as we know it today.
