The Touchlight Newsletter Touching Others Under Christ’s Hand . We listen to each other. We support each other. We help each other. We are there for each other. Feb 2015 • Volume 3, Issue 2 ⦁ Lighthouse Evangelism As we celebrate Valentine’s Day with our loved ones, just pause for one moment and consider this - just imagine a world without the love of God! Valentine’s Day will not be needed if there is no love in the first place. In His unmerited love for humanity God gave His ONLY begotten son Jesus Christ to die on the cross to redeem us from sin and death so that whoever believes in Him will have eternal life. Let us be thankful to our Heavenly Father for His love which initiates us into the ability to understand the true meaning of love. When we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, God’s deep love is shed in our hearts and enables us to be compassionate and understanding towards anyone not like us or anyone with a special need. The love of God breaks all barriers in our hearts so that we can love them with a sincere love like God whose love endures forever. 1 John 4:19 says, “We love because He first loved us”. May the love of Christ empower every parent to love their children more no matter what they have been diagnosed with. They are unique and special to God. They have a special connection to Him. By their very nature, they exhibit the purity and love of Christ because their social conformities and awareness do not connect to the world like that of other children. In fact, their spirituality can connect to Christ differently from other children. Here, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all Touchlightees’ parents for entrusting them to our care during the Miracle Service. Our loving Touchlight teachers know the needs of all your children. They always strive to find ways to help them to experience the love of God. They are also committed and dedicated to constantly seek to create an appropriate setting for all Touchlightees to learn how much God loves them. Have a blessed Valentine’s Day to all our Touchlightees’ parents! Susan Lee Touchlight Ministry Head © 2015 Lighthouse Evangelism creator of all things. He created the light, the sky and ocean. It is said that a picture speaks a thousand words. And so for each lesson, we use lots of colourful pictures to show the children God’s power and creativity. The pictures below show the sequence of God’s creative and loving mind as He systematically created and put things to function orderly on earth. In six days, God turned the earth that was void and dark into a paradise teeming with all forms of life, colours and happiness. Each day as He finished one creation, God would look at it and said with satisfaction that ‘it was good’. When He had finished with His final creation, God looked at all that He had created and He was totally satisfied for He said that “it was very good.” He did all these by just speaking His Word. His power and greatness is indeed difficult for us to fathom. We can appreciate the wisdom, creativity and beauty of God’s creation because we are made in His likeness. Go saw all that he had made, and it was VERY GOOD. The training sessions are organized by our ministry in our continual effort to equip Touchlighters to serve better. It is an opportunity for the Touchlighters from both Woodlands and Tampines to fellowship, update and encourage one another with testimonies. We are grateful to Stanley Tan who had made time in his tight and busy schedule to brief us on the Emergency Evacuation Procedure of Lighthouse. We are impressed with the details and logistics that have been put in place in case of any emergency. Stanley Tan shared vital tips like using the ‘flashlight’ function in our hand phones. At the end of the briefing, we have a better understanding of the route we should take and the protocol to follow. However, more than anything, we believe that our God watches over us and no harm will befall us. Venetia proceeded to give a brief on the First Aid procedure and general procedures for other forms of emergency like accidental injury. The Touchlighters were also shown slides on how to identify children with HFMD. Kim led us to play an ice-breaking game. What followed were rounds of laughter and the atmosphere was evidently lighter. We also discovered hobbies, dream travel destinations and favorite food of our Touchlighters. We were also encouraged, as Touchlighters shared how serving in the ministry had changed their spiritual life. Some of us shared on the positive changes we saw in the Touchlightees, as we gave God all the glory for His work among us. Touchlighters picked up useful strategies from the Shadow Support Training segment. Touchlighters understood that their presence play a vital in the spiritual growth of the Touchlightees. Touchlightees are welcome in the church to learn about God, to be prayed for and to be ministered to. A brief on the learning characteristics and behavioral challenges of children with autism helps Touchlighters better understand Page 5 Touchlightees. Step by step strategies were provided for Touchlighters to handle various learning situation. The role of a Touchlight Shadow Teacher is definitely an active one. Each Touchlightee is unique. Therefore each approach, teaching method and techniques should be different and appropriate for that learning moment. The training session ends with a delicious Thai Style Fried Tang Hoon. Touchlighters lingered after dinner to fellowship and catch up with one another. It was a great learning and equipping session and we look forward to our next training session in October.
