Our Fiftieth Reunion Celebration
On the weekend of October 25–26, 2013, our 50th reunion was attended by 66 classmates
and our guests. And we still know how to have a good time.
Classmates teed off at the Armitage Golf Course in Mechanicsburg Friday morning.
Others attended the McDevitt vs. Cedar Cliff game Friday evening, played at our new
school field — too bad things didn’t go better for the home team. In the evening a casual
gathering was held at the New Cumberland VFW in New Cumberland.
Saturday activities began at 10 a.m. with a Memorial Mass in the Chapel at the new
school, celebrated by Fr. Acri, class of ’52. Afterwards Cheri Comasco, McDevitt’s
Director of Advancement, led a tour of the beautiful new school. She also told us about
the potential use of the old school and plans for preserving its stained glass windows.
The main Celebration was held Saturday evening at the Radisson Hotel in Camp Hill.

So, what have you been doing for the last fifty years?
If you haven’t responded yet, please tell us about yourself and your life (family, work, travel, interests, etc.) to share with classmates in this
reunion booklet. Go to www.mcd63.com and send in the contact form with your information. The booklet will be updated periodically and
reposted on our website as additional responses are received.
ROSEMARY ALITTO SCHAEDLER Spouse: Tom Schaedler (deceased)
Children: Elizabeth Ann Schaedler-Gillespie,
Antoinette Marie Schaedler Mandich
Grandchildren: Alexa Rose Mandich,
Alayna Mary Mandich
Professional Life: Taught school since 1968, 37 of those
years teaching in a Montessori School in Camp Hill, PA.
Retired in 2014.
Volunteer Life: Worked with cancer patient since 1982,
founded a Support Group in 1987 for cancer patients,
families and friends (which still attracts 15 to 20
participants monthly) and trained volunteers to work
with patients and families on a one-to-one basis.
Fun Life: Bought a condo in Florida in 2009 after the
death of my husband. Enjoying life and welcoming
anyone who would like to visit!
MARY JO BICHLMEIER NISPEL is a good day. Had a wonderful time at the 50th reunion.
Didn’t the committee do a great job?!
JOHN S. BRAUNER Spouse: Judith C Brauner
Children: John Steven Brauner, married to
Jennifer L Brauner
Grandchildren: Mylan Ruben Brauner,
Theodore John Brauner
I came to McDevitt from St. Patrick Cathedral Parish
where I was an alter boy, Bishop Leech’s page boy and
crosier bearer.
Quiet, shy, probably backward in those days (still am to
some degree), I enjoyed my years at McDevitt but was not
sure what I wanted to do with my life.
I was in the Marine Corps from 10/63 to 9/67, stationed
at Camp Lejeune, NC, for two years but spent most of the
time on cruises to the Caribbean and the Mediterranean
twice. I spent more time on ships than most sailors.
Spouse: William “Bill” Nispel
Children: Marni Nispel Barilone
Grandchildren: Kyri Alison Barilone
After Lejeune I spent 13 months in Vietnam ... on an
island off the coast of Chi Lai training local forces to
protect their villages.
Even having been through some very difficult physical
challenges, as have so many others, Bill and I are
celebrating life every day. Married 46 years, we have
been enjoying retirement for a number of years now. We
have traveled extensively around the US, the Caribbean
islands, Ireland, Turkey and Greece and are so glad we
did it while we could. We are active with our family and
in the local gun club, garden club and our parish. We
enjoy watching the local pro sports teams, movies, plays,
dining out with friends and still love to dance. Every day
I got out a little early to attend HACC, then Penn State
Capital Campus (now Penn State Harrisburg).
MCD63
While at Penn State I did an internship for the Dauphin
County Mental Health/Mental Retardation working
with patients being released from the Harrisburg State
Hospital. That led to a job at Goodwill Industries funded
by MH/MR doing residential placement services and
follow up for patients due for release or already in the
community.
11
In March 1974 I became a Dauphin County MH/MR
employee and for the next 33 years I did residential
placement services, crisisintervention services and later
fiscal/data management services.
I retired in March 2007 and now enjoy my son and
grandsons whenever possible, winters in Florida, golf,
reading, working out at the gym, researching my family
history, photography, birding in the wetlands of Florida
and walking the beach.
I am really glad and eternally grateful that Carol Seese
remembered me years ago and got me interested in
McDevitt again which led to my involvement with some
of the greatest people that I have ever known. I love and
cherish all of you.
I really enjoy getting to know classmates better now than
I ever did when I was in school—coming out of my shell
a little.
The 50th reunion was quite enjoyable. I got to meet
classmates I never knew and renewed old acquaintances.
One thing that really struck me was that one of them was
in my homeroom for years but she did not remember me.
Talk about flying under the radar. I guess I was quieter
than even I thought. It only took fifty years for me to be
recognized. Just goes to show you that it’s never too late.
Mass and the tour were great. Seeing the list of donors
from the old Bishop McDevitt was especially moving.
My Grandfather, who died before I was born, was one
of them. Seeing his name made me proud. I could see
my roots there. Little did he know at the time that his
grandchildren would all benefit from something he
helped start.

PAULINE BRIDY WAGNER Spouse: Carroll T. Wagner
Children: Marisa and Carla
Grandchildren: Leah and Natalie
A graduate of Harrisburg Hospital Nursing School,
I worked at Univeristy of Pennsylvania Hospital in
medical-surgical nursing. I married Carroll T. Wagner
in Havertown, PA and returned to Harrisburg where
my husband was empoloyed as a Harrisburg City Police
Officer. I worked at Harrisburg Hospital from the Fall
of 1967 to the Fall of 2010. I have been a docent at the
Pennsylvania State Museum since 1986 to present. I enjoy
traveling with my husband and family, enjoy gardening,
and visits from our grandchildren. My husband and I
also make frequent visits to New York City to visit our
grandchilden. We have lived in the same house since 1969
and the “money pit” looks better with each passing year.
My husband recently retired from his second career with
Harrisburg Area Community College, which makes my
retirement more enjoyable.
CARL DONVITO Spouse: Kate Donvito
Children: yes
Grandchildren: 4
JULIE GALLAGHER Spouse: Bob Beck
On graduation from SU, I
moved to Boston and found a
job in publishing. After 20 years
I left that job to start my own
business, still in publishing.
12 years later I decided to work
on my own—best decision I ever made. I’m still working
with books, web design and photo restoration, will retire
when my last client does.
Bob and I met about the time I started my business,
married a few years ago. He recently retired from teaching
at Framingham State but continues to do his research. We
live near Boston and dote on Toby, our little dachshund.
I still come home several times a year to visit family
and see old friends. Our reunions have become a special
occasion for me.

JUDY HARTMAN (aka SISTER SHARON) Nursing degree BSN and sister of Christian Charity
I’m now a Certified Chaplain at Susquehanna Health
System in Williamsport, PA (been in Williamsport area
since 1977).
My parents died at Bethany Village in Mechanicsburg
last year.
BOB HECKMAN Spouse: Sharon Heckman
At Catholic University I found my true academic
interest—mechanical engineering (graduated top of the
class), sport—wrestling (captain and undefeated in dual
matches senior year) and social life—fraternity officer. A
full scholarship for graduate study allowed me to enroll
in an aeronautical engineering program at the University
of Arizona. A sorority I became friendly with selected me
as their candidate for ugliest man on campus but alas,
after all the paid votes were counted (proceeds to charity),
I only came in third.
I was hired by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in an industry
I dreamt about since flying model airplanes in grade
school and in Connecticut where I rode through many
time as a kid on family vacations to Maine. During my 36
year at P&W I had careers in engineering R&D, college
recruitment (traveled the country), labor relations (ugh),
marketing and customer support (traveled the world).
I was assigned to a consortium with British, German,
Japanese and Italian companies for 11 years to help bring
a new engine to market, sent to India for 7 months and
transferred to Sydney, Australia, for 3 years. I also earned
an MBA and MS in Oceanography at nights thanks to
P&W support, learned to ski and helped start the P&W
ski club, serving as president for 2 years, and took up
sailboat racing.
In 1983 I met and married Sharon (both our second) who
matched my desire for adventure. Our first date was on
a sailboat where she was sick all night from some clams
that didn’t agree with her. I taught her to ski and we
bought a place on Mt. Snow, VT, to escape to on winter
weekends. She followed me to Sunfish national and world
championship regattas around the country, Canada and
12
the Caribbean, then finally bought a cruising boat. We
sailed around New England for 5 years but sold it when
we transferred to Australia. There we fell in with a group
of sailboat racing Aussies who gave us a three person
boat (Yngling) to race. Sharon became foredeck crew,
we picked up an eager young girl as middle crew and I
sat in the back giving orders. One of our fondest Aussie
sailing memories was having the current America’s Cup
winning skipper, Jimmy Spithill, sail on our boat as a
guest helmsman in a regatta in 1998 when he was 19. He
was amazing even then and of course won the regatta.
After sailing in the Aussie National Championship they
invited us to be members of their team to compete in
the 1999 Yngling World Championship in Sweden. I
coordinated my reassignment back to Connecticut with
a stop in Sweden, a great way to part with many Aussie
sailing friends.
While in Connecticut I still covered Southeast Asia,
flying to Sydney, Singapore, Jakarta and Hanoi. By then
Sharon and I were planning retirement, searching the
eastern US for the boat to sail off to the islands. By 2005
we finally bought her, retired from Pratt, moved onboard
and set sail south. Over the next 8 year we followed
the sun sailing over 30,000 nautical miles visiting the
Bahamas, the Greater and Lesser Antilles, Bermuda,
Columbia, Panama, Curacao, and the eastern seaboard
from Maine to Florida. We sold the boat this year, did an
8,000 mile road trip visiting friends and relatives, civil
war sites, president
houses, aviation
museums, national
parks and art galleries
across the country
and am now settled
in Park City, UT for
the next phase of our
retirement, skiing in
the big mountains.

KATHLEEN HECKMAN FOGARTY I just want to compliment you on our 50th reunion. It was
really a nice event. The amount of work done by you and
the committee was staggering. I’m not sure how you did
it all for $50 per person, but I was impressed. The extras
(wood cut-out of the old high school, etc.) were a nice
surprise. I also liked the way you recognized deceased
classmates. Thank you for remembering them.
Please pass my compliments to the committee members.
KATHI KERWIN CLAYTON Spouse: Walt Clayton
Children: 3 sons
Grandchildren: 8
We are in the Chestnut Hill area of the city. I am semiretired and teach a business course each semester at Penn
State’s campuses in this area.
JOE LITTLE Spouse: Antoinette
Children: Carianne, Diane, Gina, David
Grandchildren: Sophia, Isabella
After McDevitt, I got my AA in Classical Languages, BA
in Thomistic Philosophy, MA in Education, another MA
in Administration and attended Rutgers University for
my Ph.D.
In the meantime I got married and have 3 daughters and
a son. The family is doing well: 1 Lawyer, 1 Insurance
Adjuster, 1 in Emergency Room Admissions and a son
who is an international music composer of opera.
Now empty nesters, we live in remote northwest NJ where
the air is sweet and the wildlife prolific. We travel often:
Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania and Istanbul are favorites (so far).
I look forward to retirement in 2 years and will work full
time at our chocolate shoppe in Phillipsburg, NJ.
I was so glad to see all the “old” faces again on the website
since my yearbook was destroyed by the Sandy storm.
Looking forward to the 60th. Best to all.

JOYCE LOVETT Children: Lilli
Grandchildren: Alex and Caroline
Retired after 30 years
teaching in CH elementary
schools, I missed it so much
that I jumped when asked
to sub and enjoyed 12 more
years with the little ones.
In younger years I cared for
15 figure skating students as
their house mom, cook, and
chauffeur during summer
skating in the Philadelphia
area. Later I was known as “Mom” to the cast of Ice
Capades, which included my daughter. I cheered for
them, listened to them, and loved them for two years,
present for 52 shows in various cities. European travels
were also enriching.
Eight years of summers and school breaks were spent in
Los Angeles, where I can truly say I was kissed by God
(George Burns). Since experiencing the Northridge quake
I have stayed on the East Coast!
My relatives live in wonderful locations and I’ve spent
many glorious times with them in the Boston area,
Ormond Beach, Savannah, Manhattan, and on Cape Cod.
I have also spent time in the convent in MA (yes—
I should have been a nun!) with my aunt, who is one.
I am so grateful to be a grammy and also to have moved
home and shared the last seven years of my beloved dad’s
life with him. He died the same day as JPII and I miss
him. Another treasure in my life has been spending time
in Rome with cherished friends.
Now I live in my parents’ house with my Wheaten Terrier
Patrick and know there’s absolutely no place like home. I
enjoy the theater and reading.
It was great seeing all of you at our 50th reunion! I value
the excellent education provided by Bishop McDevitt
High School.

FRANK L. MAGARO Children: Frank, Kimberly, Andrew, Charlie
Grandchildren: Ashley, Frankie, Anthony, Arianna,
Madison, Devon, Bianca

ROSE MANFRED MILLER Thanks for all your work in organizing the reunion. It
was a huge success!! I had a wonderful time connecting
with all my “old” buddies from McDevitt.

CHERRY DARLENE MILLER RINGLEY Spouse: Phillip Ringley
Children: two
Grandchildren: five
I retired three years ago after a rewarding career as VP
of Customer Services with Wyndham Hotels/Luxury
Resorts. My husband and I live in a very small town in
Texas on a lake. I am very busy with volunteering and
blessed with good health, wonderful friends, four sweet
dogs, and a loving family. Would love to hear from my
old school mates!
MARY OGDEN REHM Spouse: Dale Rehm
Children: Christopher and Michael
Grandchildren: Madison and Ashley
I retired after working 22 years from Pa Neurology Asso.
to watch my granddaughters. Loved every minute of it.
MCD63
CAROL A. RUPPERT SEESE Spouse: Jim Seese
Children: Ryan, Stephanie (step children)
Grandchildren: Riley
In June 1963, two days
after graduation, I went
to work (my very first
job) and didn’t stop
working until I retired
in April 2013. My first
job was in the office of
a Chevy car dealership.
From there I went to
the State of PA, Dept. of
Public Welfare. In 1968,
I moved to Harrisburg Hospital (now called Pinnacle
Health) and was there for 21 years. I met my husband at
the hospital, and we were married in 1985. From 1989 to
1993, I worked part time for a temp agency. Early in 1993
I decided it was time to go back to full time work and
in March went to work in the Law Department at AMP
Inc., which is now Tyco Electronics Corporation (TE
Connectivity). After 20 years at TEC, I decided that it was
time to take a permanent rest, and I have been loving my
retirement ever since.
Shortly after graduation, I went to modeling school in
the evenings and spent three years modeling part time in
the area and on some locations. When dancing down the
runway came into vogue, I made my exit. I was not about
to dance! Walking the runway was stressful enough.
Over the years I have enjoyed live concerts, traveling,
downhill skiing (never got out of the novice mode) and
cross country skiing. Now I enjoy our “get away” home in
the Pocono Mountains. My husband and I enjoy hiking,
paddling our kayak and just lounging on the beach at the
lake. We no longer ski—his reason is “fear,” and I seem to
agree. Quiet time with a good book is my favorite. We do
our best to keep life simple.
14
JOE SARIANO Spouse: Rebecca
Children: Jason
I served in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1967. Upon
discharge from active service, I gained employment with
the Dept. of the Army as a civilian at Ft. Ritchie, MD.,
retired in September 1998 after 35 years of service. I’ve
been married to my wife Becky for 44 years. I’m a two
time cancer survivor and enjoying life.
LORRAINE H. SCHMIDT I graduated from George
Washington University in
D.C. After a 6-month tour of
Europe in a VW “Bug” with
a college friend, I decided
to return to D.C. From then
on, my career took many
interesting turns: I started
out working at the National
Archives (I needed a job!) in
their Educational Programs
unit that does exhibits. That
was something I had never considered, but loved it, and
learned to do the research and script writing that is a big
part of the process.
Eventually I went to a large private firm that both designs
and builds museum exhibitions, where I continued to
do research, writing, and project management as Vice
President for Design and Museum Services. One favorite
project was the Jimmy Carter Presidential Museum in
Atlanta. I got to work directly with Mr. and Mrs. Carter,
and learned first-hand that most public people are much
more approachable than what we see in the media. They
are both great.
In 1988, one of my colleagues and I started our own
design firm called The PRD Group to focus on museum
clients. It was fascinating as I got to travel around the
country and meet many amazing people. I “retired” in
2006, but continued to work on some major projects as
a consultant, including a new state history museum in
Alabama.
w w w. m cd 6 3 .co m
In 2009, out of the blue, I got a call from The Corcoran
College of Art + Design (in D.C.) offering me a job as
an advisor to graduate students in the Master of Arts in
Exhibition Design program. Long story short—I became
head of the department the next year and grew the
program from 8 to 62 students before I retired (again) in
2012.
It was all very fun, and I treasure many long-term friends
I made along the way, but I’m glad not to face the 80-hour
work weeks anymore!
Now I look forward to having time to reconnect with
friends and family, including a small army of nieces and
nephews across the country. Most of all, I hope to see my
McDevitt classmates more often and continue to share
this wonderful journey with you!
MICHAEL R. SMITH Spouse: Florence
Children: Kathrin and David
Grandchildren: Juliana and Vivienne
I am a retired attorney. I am enjoying my grandchildren.
MCD63
CAROL TARASI PETTROW Spouse: David Pettrow
Children: Daniel A. Pettrow
After graduating from Lock
Haven with a degree in
English I moved to Florida
& completed my M.S. in
Counseling at University of
South Florida. While living
in Florida (Tampa & Naples),
I worked as a counselor in
high schools & community
colleges. I moved to Georgia
& retired as Director of
Counseling for a high school.
Our son graduated from Loyola University and currently
lives in NYC. He is an actor & is associated with a
number of theatre troupes which keeps him busy
internationally. Since retiring, I am busier than ever with
hobbies & friends. My husband & I like to travel, & we try
to go to Italy every year for 6 weeks to visit friends and
family.

Notes of Regret
NANCY DEVINE STEWART KATHI KERWIN CLAYTON Her husband has lung cancer and in middle of chemo/
radiation treatments. Nancy has breast cancer and
just finished treatment. “I'll miss seeing those who
contributed to so many of my fond memories of school.”
I will not be able to attend the reunion due to family
commitments. I am sorry I will miss the opportunity to
catch up with you and many other former classmates.
EDWARD DOUGHERTY Just a note to give you best wishes for a wonderful
reunion. I truly wanted to come but heart problems and
Dan’s work schedule will not cooperate. Give my best to
Lee Ann if you see her.
FR. EUGENE FURJANIC I’m unable to attend due to illness.
My attendance is growing very doubtful—I’m not feeling
up to it. You are probably unaware I am in wheelchair
(have been for some time). I tire easily and do not do well
in crowds.
I’m retired and will be in Orlando, FL, covering for
another priest that weekend.
EDWARD HALL Cannot attend for personal/medical reasons
DOROTHY HARTZ DANIEL I am unable to attend due to family coming in the week
before the reunion and husband traveling the weekend of
the reunion. I hope the reunion is well attended.
DOLORES MCDONALD FRYLING MICHAEL MUDRINICH FR. TOM NORRIS I have parish ministry this weekend.
DEIRDRE O'NEAL COOPER Unfortunately, I am unable to attend the 50th reunion.
It appears a grand time and celebration is planned and fun
will be had by all.
SISTER CHERYL ROSE I was only at McDevitt Sophomore & Junior years, but I
loved every minute of it—great school, great friends, great
teachers.
JOE SARIANO I won't be able to attend our reunion. I hope the reunion
is a major success and everyone has a great time. Thank
you for your continued support to the class of 63. I hope
to see you at a future event.
ANN MARIE VANUCCI SHEETZ Sorry I am not going to be able to attend. I would love
to see everyone. I missed working with all of you on
the Reunion, but I know the 50th will be a great success
because you all do such a great job. Thanks for all your
hard work.
SUE WOOLFORD I would love to come, but am unable to attend. Please tell
everyone I said hello.
ELIZABETH PETRUCCIO WHITE Sorry that we will be unable to attend the reunion. We
wish to all the best of good times. May the Lord and His
mother continue to bless us all. All the best.
