for Universal Health
th
The 18 South Pacific Nurses Forum will bring together evidence, experience and innovations
highlighting nursing contribution to Universal Health Coverage and demonstrating how nurses are
important to ensuring access and quality of health care for all.
The theme of this year’s meeting: “Towards Nursing Excellence for Universal (Pacific) Health”
recognizes the significant contribution of nurses in the region to health service delivery.
1
The forum will provide a regional platform for the dissemination of nursing knowledge and leadership
across specialities, cultures and countries and territories of the South Pacific featuring keynote and
plenary speakers as well as sessions including dynamic papers accepted through our abstract selection
process. Featured plenary speakers will bring inspiration and the latest information on nursing
leadership, managing and developing the nursing workforce including development of nursing
education strategies to improve nursing practice and the impact of nursing regulation on health
service delivery.
The South Pacific Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officers Alliance (SPCNMOA) meeting will also convene
from 02-03 November 2016. Chief Nurses, regulators and educators will discuss the alliance action
plans and strengthening the nursing profession to support health strategies of countries and
territories in the region.
The main objectives of the South Pacific Nurses Forum are:

South Pacific Nurses Forum
The South Pacific Nurses Forum (SPNF) was formed in 1982 by South
Pacific Nurses who were attending the 1980 International Council of
Nurses in Los Angeles, USA and has met in different locations in the
South Pacific every two years since then.
Clinical nurses, nurse managers, nurse educators and nurse leaders from
across the South Pacific attend the Forum to discuss and debate key
issues of importance to nurses and nursing.
The forum provides a venue for the 14 national nursing associations
representing thousands of nurses in the South Pacific to discuss nursing
experiences, share knowledge and develop networking amongst the
islands including Australia and New Zealand.
