delivering peace of mind - Christ Episcopal School
7735 Old Georgetown Road, Suite 700 Bethesda, Maryland 20814 240.333.2000 w w w . g t m a r c h i t e c t s . c o m Dear Christ Episcopal School Parents and Friends, Welcome, and thank you all for coming to sail away with us tonight! We are very pleased that you are joining us at the "Come Sail Away" Auction and Gala in support of Christ Episcopal School. Our gathering together at VisArts in Rockville for this festive event shows the commitment, vibrancy and fellowship that are such strong elements of our school community. The dedication of so many devoted individuals, whether attending or supporting the event, makes a tremendous impact on CES --where children thrive and develop academically, spiritually and emotionally. Proceeds of this year's Auction and Gala will be used for continued program improvement and facilities upgrades. Thank you! Our beautiful evening is the result of volunteer efforts by many who gave their time and talents. We particularly thank our Gala Chairs, Cyndy Mamalian and Lu Ann Cornman, and Martha Patterson and Iany Schneider, and Valerie Feaunati, Tracy Halsey, and Rachel Tracey, who led our parent volunteers. These individuals have worked tirelessly to assure an event that is both successful for the school and enjoyable for all in attendance. Thank you also to all of the Gala Committee members for volunteering their energy and creativity. To all involved, we are tremendously grateful. The Rev. John S. McDuffie Rector, Christ Church Paul Mamalian Chair, Board of Governors MISSION STATEMENT Academic excellence, respect and a passion to serve are the inspiration for our community. At Christ Episcopal School, every student and parent is a priority, and every interaction is rooted in our CES promise: to nurture students to become kind, confident, well-rounded individuals prepared to contribute to their community and thrive personally, spiritually and academically. Dear Parents and Friends of Christ Episcopal School, A warm welcome to the 2016 Christ Episcopal School “Come Sail Away” Auction and Gala. Thank you for being with us tonight while we do all that we can to raise money to help CES. Our gala theme cannot be more appropriate as CES prepares to sail into its next fifty years with an updated Strategic Plan that maintains our continued focus on upgrading our facilities as one of its top priorities. Tonight, we celebrate the beauty of our children and the dreams they have; the life that awaits them; their creative expression through art; and the open course we are setting as we navigate towards the next fifty years that await Christ Episcopal School. Getting together with people who love Christ Episcopal School insures a night of fun and fellowship. Our event this year was planned by our creative and energetic Gala Committee, a mighty force of volunteers, with unflagging support and energy provided by Bob Treseler, Director of Development. I want to thank all the sponsors and donors who made this year’s Gala possible. Your generosity makes a difference in the financial success of this Gala, which directly benefits the educational program at Christ Episcopal School. Your support helps us to continue to provide the excellent educational experience for our students that we have come to know as Christ Episcopal School. Much gratitude goes to the faculty and staff of CES who have been supportive of the many efforts on behalf of this event, as well as the programs and children of CES. Thank you again for joining us for “Come Sail Away”. Have a wonderful time mingling, dining, dancing, and bidding to support Christ Episcopal School. Caroline Chapin, Ed.D. No exchanges or refunds on auction items are permitted. All items will be sold “AS IS.” Please read specifications, limitations, and expirations carefully. Upon purchase, the buyer waives any claim for liability against either Christ Episcopal School or the donor of the property or services. Neither CES nor the donor is responsible for any damages to person or property that may result from the use of property or services sold. Unless otherwise specified, all auction items must be used within one year of the event (by February 5, 2017). Unless otherwise specified, dates and times for services or events are to be arranged at the mutual convenience of the donor and the buyer. All auction items must be paid for in full on February 5, 2016. The cashier will be open to accept payment for both silent and live auction purchases fifteen minutes following the close of the live auction. Cash, personal checks (to CES), VISA and MasterCard will be accepted. Check with your tax advisor as to the deductibility, if any, of the individual items. Please note that CES is required to charge Maryland sales tax (6%) on all tangible items. At registration, each guest will receive a bidding number. This number must be used for all bidding. When registering a silent bid, please write your bidding number and last name next to the bid amount. Please write legibly or risk losing your bid. Example: #165 Williams.. $35 A concerted effort has been made to accurately describe the auction items. Due to circumstances beyond our control, some items may have changed since the printing of the catalog. Please check items against descriptions and catalog numbers carefully prior to bidding. Every effort has been made to properly credit auction donations with the corresponding donor. Bidding on the Silent Auction items will begin at 6:00 PM on February 5, 2016. Please read specifications and limitations carefully, particularly on gift certificates that may have expiration dates. Each Silent Auction item has a bid sheet listing a minimum acceptable bid. Printing your bidding number and last name next to the specified amount makes a “bid.” Silent Auction bids will be disqualified if the bidder number and/or last name cannot be read. Items are sold to the highest bidder at the close of the bidding . The Auction Committee reserves the right to remove invalid bids, resolve disputes, or withdraw the offering at its discretion. Fifteen minutes after the live auction ends, guests may proceed to checkout. In order to expedite the checkout service, several options are available-- Personal Checks, Cash or Credit Card (Master Card or VISA). Thank you. The Live Auction continues until all items have been auctioned and is followed by dessert and coffee. The Auctioneer reserves the right to announce the conditions of the sale at any time. The Auctioneer also reserves the right to open bidding at a minimum price and to reject any bid that is not commensurate with the value of the item. To enter a bid, the bidder signals the Auctioneer. The highest bidder acknowledged by the Auctioneer will be the buyer. In the event of a dispute, the Auctioneer and Auction Committee have the sole and final discretion to determine the successful bid or to re-offer and resell the item in dispute. When bidding on an item is completed, the buyer will receive for signature a receipt showing the item and the amount of the winning bid. Following the close of the live auction, the receipt is processed by checkout and added to the buyer’s total. Heads and Tails This is a quick, spirited game, which will be played during the Live Auction. Here’s how to play: Those who wish to play will register with a “Floor Auctioneer” during the Silent Auction ($25 per person). Upon registration, you will receive a wearable item. Participants should listen for the Auctioneer to start the game during the Live Auction. The Auctioneer will toss the coin. As the coin is being tossed, participants place their hands either on their heads or their tails (one place only, please!) If your placement choice wins, remain standing for the next coin toss. If you lose, please sit down. The game will continue until one winner remains standing. The prize will be revealed at the event. Absentee Bids for Silent and Live Auction Forms to place advance bids may be obtained from the CES Advancement Office. Absentee Bids will be accepted in the Advancement Office if received by 3:30pm on Thursday, February 4, 2016. Absentee bids may be faxed to 301.424.3516. Absentee bid requests must be accompanied by credit card information and signature. If the Absentee Bid is the winning bid, the item will automatically be billed to the designated credit card. Absentee bids for Silent Auction items will be entered on the appropriate bid sheet at 6pm on Friday, February 5, 2015. Absentee Bids on Live Auction items will be given directly to the Auctioneer and will establish a “floor” for the opening bid. Live Auction Begins at 8:25 1 - Bottle Shock Wine Competition Rematch – Bottle Shock, the movie, is the story of the early days of California wine making featuring the now infamous blind Paris wine tasting of 1976 that has come to be known as "Judgment of Paris". California defeated France for the first time. Now you can host the rematch! Host your own competition and enjoy: One (1) Chateau Gruaud Larose 2010, Bordeaux Red Blends from StJulien, Bordeaux, France: 95 Pts., Wine Enthusiast - "For anybody looking for classic Bordeaux, this is the bottle to seek. "Classic" here means a wine with a tannic structure that also relies on a black currant flavor, with acidity providing freshness but not losing any concentration or aging potential. Keep for many years." Best from 2015-2040; and, One (1) Bevan Cellars Sugarloaf Mountain: 95 pts., The Wine Advocate: The 2010 Proprietary Red Oscar Sugar Loaf Mountain is notably sweeter, richer and more powerful than the Impetus, Bevan’s other Merlot/Cabernet Franc blend. Chocolate, sweet spices, cloves, black berries and plums all jump from the glass in this full-bodied wine. The 2010 is full-throttle, intense and unapologetically opulent, but it all works, and beautifully. Anticipated maturity: 2015–2025. Enjoy your wine while you watch Bottle Shock on DVD and decide where your movie poster, autographed by writer and producer Jody Savin, should go. Donors: Tom and Colleen Bender & Paul and Cyndy Mamalian Fair Market Value: $350 2 - Name the CES Driveway for Christ Episcopal School’s Golden Anniversary Year, 2016-2017 - For the entire 2016-2017 school year, enjoy this special naming opportunity...the main driveway will feature your child's or family's name or favorite phrase.
