TeT Fair 2016 - Australian International School
Australian International School | issue no.27 The AIS essenger T Tet Fair 2016 his Lunar New Year is the year of the “Fire Monkey”. This was a great opportunity for all primary students, parents and teachers to join, explore and experience the cultural and festive atmosphere of Vietnam through live performances, hands-on activities, foods, crafts, games, arts and so on. To kick off the celebration on 4 February 2016, we had a Tet assembly, in which we talked about the meaning of Tet. We also had musical performances and a fashion parade by all primary students. The students then enjoyed a Tet fair in the cafeteria, where games and a multitude of activities were available, including picking lucky red envelopes from the Cherry Blossom tree, Vietnamese calligraphy, walking on the Kieu bridge, sack jumping. Some students even had a go at wrapping the traditional Banh Chung and Banh Tet at the fair. There were delicious traditional snacks with full flavours of Tet for all Primary students enjoy too. Thank you to the teachers, support staff and parents for volunteering and supporting this celebration. * [email protected] | www.aisvietnam.com Thu Thiem Campus Thao Dien Campus Xi Campus (Kindergarten, Primary, Middle & Senior School) 264 Mai Chi Tho (East-West Highway) An Phu Ward | District 2 | HCMC t: +84 8 3742 4040 | f: +84 8 3740 7361 (Kindergarten & Primary School) APSC Compound 36 Thao Dien Road | District 2 | HCMC t: +84 8 3744 6960 | f: +84 8 3744 6961 (Kindergarten) 190 Nguyen Van Huong Street Thao Dien Ward | District 2 | HCMC t: +84 8 3519 2727 | f: +84 8 3744 6961 February 2016 | The AIS Messenger 1 2 The AIS Messenger | February 2016 K Life in Kindergarten indergarten children have been celebrating TET. They made Cherry Blossom trees, red lucky envelopes, monkeys and designing their own Ao Dai’s. We are All Kindergarten children loved the school celebrations held at the Sport Centre, where everyone looked beautiful in their traditional dress. We had a ceremony to help bring in the New Year. At Xi Campus, we washed and blessed all the cars and bikes. It was lovely to see how everyone was very respectful and enjoyed taking part as for many it was a brand new experience. The Kindergarten children also celebrated Australia Day where every helped to make cheese sandwiches for our campus wide picnic. We learnt a new painting technique, using cotton buds to dot the paint. We decorated some Australian native animals just like the paintings found within the Australian aboriginal culture. We have been continuing with our Unit of Inquiry about ‘Sharing the Planet’. The children have been specifically learning about ‘Ocean Animals’ and how they can live in the water rather than the land. Some have also been learning about animals and their young, understanding that adult animals are called different names to their babies just like a cow and calf or sheep and lamb. We are also very much looking forward to celebrating the AIS annual Book Week ( 7-11 March) so start thinking about your costume for your favourite book character ready for our parade!
