Lined with towering flower “trees,” planters bursting with blooms and dozens of premium brand outlet stores, it’s no surprise that the center ranks among the top destinations in Oregon. Top-name designers and manufacturers such as Brooks Brothers, Cole Haan, Puma, adidas, Banana Republic, Helly Hansen, Le Creuset, Bose, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, and Polo Ralph Lauren fill more than 300,000 square feet of space, making it one of the largest outlet centers in the Pacific Northwest. In addition to the allure of great brands, prices and selection, Woodburn Company Stores features the amenities that appeal to tourists and shoppers of all ages and tastes. Woodburn Company Stores explodes with the colors of more than 7,000 flowers and plants thanks to partnerships with local nurserymen in the fertile Willamette Valley. The open-air architecture evokes a distinctly Northwest style with elements such as natural shake wood siding and stonework walls, two-story vaulted ceilings, copper roof sections and lodge-style green shingle roofs. A giant treehouse hewn from a fallen Eucalyptus tree stands 19’ tall, weighs close to 30,000 pounds and provides a whimsical play area for children. Parents can cool their shopping-worn heels on wooden Adirondack chairs while the kids try to make the carved wooden bear at the base of the tree “talk” by stepping on sensors in the soft floor made of recycled rubber. Shoppers seeking a snack or light-meal between shops have a variety of options, including: Auntie Anne’s Pretzels, Chateau Benoit Wine Tasting and Deli, Coastal Creamery, Java Crew, Sargo’s Subs, New York Burrito, Macheezmo Mouse/The Haute Dog, Harry and David and Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. -more- Woodburn Company Stores Beckons Shoppers to One-of-a-Kind Setting – page 2 Group tours receive a designated tour bus drop-off next to the customer service office, restrooms, complimentary wheelchairs and strollers, telephones, and an ATM. WOODBURN COMPANY STORES BECOMES “OUTLET” FOR STATEWIDE TRAVEL INFORMATION WOODBURN, OR. – – Two of America’s favorite pastimes - travel and shopping come together when the Oregon Travel Information Council’s first Travel Plaza officially opens at Woodburn Company Stores on Tuesday, August 9. The new Travel Plaza will become the site for Woodburn Area Chamber of Commerce Oregon Travel Information Center and make Woodburn a hub for regional tourism promotion. The Travel Plaza in Woodburn is the first of the five new statewide plazas proposed by the Travel Information Council (TIC) slated to open during the 2005-2007 biennium. The plaza was strategically sited at Woodburn Company Stores, one of the state’s highest traffic points in the Willamette Valley, and represents the TIC’s vision of a successful public private partnership, which shares expenses and share services to create a travel stop that provides not only a rest stop, but a welcoming travel experience with access to modern amenities. The project is the outcome of many years of collaboration and planning between Oregon Travel Information Council, Woodburn Area Chamber of Commerce and Woodburn Company Stores. The outlet mall will contribute 600-square foot space to the Travel Plaza project and offering travelers access to its on site amenities, including safe and sheltered access to travel information, refreshments and snacks, clean restrooms, an ATM, plus dozens of travel-oriented retailers selling everything needed for an Oregon vacation, from beach towels and sunglasses to rain parkas and umbrellas. A self-serve information kiosk installed within the Travel Plaza footprint will feature stories of local attractions and services, and provide space to accommodate advertising and brochures. Revenues generated from the sales of advertising on the kiosk display will help fund the development of future Travel Plazas on both public and private land. “When opening in 1999, Woodburn Company Stores instantly became one of the state’s most popular stops for motorists and motorcoach travelers,” said Cheryl Gribskov, executive director of Oregon Travel Information Council. “This new center will meet the needs of travelers in a high volume traffic area and serve as the region’s resource for information on Oregon attractions, events, state and national parks, recreational opportunities, lodging information and maps.” The Travel Plaza at Woodburn Company Stores will be staffed from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days each week by personnel from the Woodburn Area Chamber of Commerce and team of trained volunteers. Security staff employed by the outlet mall will monitor the site around the clock offering travelers the added assurance of safety.
