2014 IN RETROSPECT
Installations by LEITNER ropeways do more
than just provide standard transport service.
They set new comfort standards while their
premium-quality design makes them a tourist attraction. Ropeways improve the quality
of life by providing maximum ride comfort and
child-friendly boarding for winter sports while reducing street traffic in cities as well as providing
a fascinating bird’s eye view at exhibitions and
amusement parks. In 2014, LEITNER ropeways
built 38 installations in thirteen countries where
customers required top quality when it came
to environmental friendliness, engineering and
comfort.
DirectDrive – increased efficiency, reliability
and sustainability
With the DirectDrive, LEITNER ropeways can
offer applications that fulfill these specific demands sustainably. Ropeways equipped with
modern drive technology provided exclusively
by LEITNER ropeways run significantly more
quietly, consume less energy and – thanks to
fewer high-use parts – operate more reliably
requiring less maintenance. In 2014, ten systems outfitted with DirectDrive were produced.
These include the Tschein and Borest ropeways
in South Tyrol, the panoramic ropeway in Obertauern, the Golzentippbahn in Obertilliach,
the Milchhäuslexpress in Lenggries, the Rohace
Express in Slovakia, the Klockar Express in Vemdalen, Sweden, the Levi South in Levi, Finland,
the Expressheis in Roldal, Norway and the urban installation Yenimahalle in Ankara, Turkey.
Design and comfort – the ropeway as a
tourist attraction
Quality and individuality are core competencies
of LEITNER ropeways; however, the appearance of the ropeways likewise plays a central
role. With innovative design solutions, today’s
ropeways provide promising new opportunities
for operators. In addition to popular comfort
features such as colorful bubbles and heated
leather seats, individual design elements can
significantly enhance the attractiveness of the
ropeways and their visual appearance. Individual solutions with exceptional luxury and creative designs transform ropeways by LEITNER
ropeways into attractions that enhance the site
and create momentum. Individual style elements
and impressive accessories make the ropeway
into an important corporate design factor. For
example, the seats on the Ganslernhang chairlift
in Kitzbühel display posters of legendary slalom
races. These seat displays have attracted the interest of the public at their debut at the Hahnenkamm Races. Each seat is dedicated to a year
of the World Cup races on this famous slope.

In total, seven new ropeways were built in Italy
during 2014. Connecting the Monte Elmo and
Croda Rossa ski areas in Alta Pusteria with the
GD8 ropeways Tre Cime di Lavaredo and Orto
del Toro has provided significant improvement of
sporting and touristic opportunities in the region.
As a result, two new downhill runs were created,
officially forming the new Sesto Dolomites ski
area. In Colfosco in Alta Badia, the new B
­ orest
8-passenger gondola lift has created a new
connection to the Gardena Pass, thus enhancing the attractiveness of the world-famous Sella
Ronda. In Molveno an additional 8-passenger
gondola lift travels to the Pradel high plateau.
New 6-seater chairlifts in both Corvara and
Nova Levante were built. A new surface lift was
constructed in Castione della Presolana.
The new CD6C Milchhäuslexpress at the popular Brauneck Ski Area in Bavaria is displaying
a noticeable improvement on the connection
to the south side. In addition, the ropeway has
been equipped with particularly family-friendly­
functions such as an automatically locking safety bar and a conveyor belt with an elevating platform that detects whether children or adults are
getting on.

In Obertauern, a new 6-seater chairlift was put
into operation with seat heating, yellow bubbles
and yellow-black upholstery providing particular
ride comfort. The new 10-passenger gondola
lift at the Golzentipp resort in Obertilliach, East
Tyrol, has reduced the travelling time to the top
station by 50 percent, and is equipped with
DirectDrive and panoramic windows. This ropeway set an important milestone for tourism in
Obertilliach. In Kaprun, the Lärchwand inclined
elevator was outfitted with the latest technology,
and now it carries passengers more quickly and
comfortably to reservoirs and power plants.
The GD8 Byliften in Funäsdalen, Sweden, is
the first gondola-only lift in Scandinavia made
by LEITNER ropeways. In only three minutes,
passengers can use it to travel from the city to
the summit – avoiding arduous trips by car. The
CD6C Klockar Express in Vemdalen is the largest installation in Sweden.
The 6-seater chairlift Levi South in Levi, ­Finland,­
is the first ropeway using DirectDrive in the Nordic countries. This modern installation is wellequipped with seat heating, comfort seats and
bubbles. The adjacent storage facility is also
used as an event venue for children. Additional
new ropeways were installed in the Røldal and
Strandafjellet Skisenter regions in Norway.

Stand-XPress I and II in the Adelboden-Lenk
Ski Area are the first 10-passenger gondola lifts
in the Bernese Oberland. Passengers can now
travel directly to the peak in half of the travel time
as before.

In the Valdelinares ski resort in the Aragón region, the new CF4 Valdelinares is an important
component in the expansion of the resort. New
slopes and improved connections have made
the area much more attractive.
For years, Turkey has been one of the most
dynamically expanding markets for LEITNER
ropeways. In Ankara, the largest urban ropeway in Eurasia connects the neighborhoods of
Şentepe and Yenimahalle to the city‘s subway
network. Likewise in Ankara, the pulsed gondola
ropeway in the Sinpaş district was completed
and will assume important transport activities in
the prestigious new residential area. In Bursa,
visitors can now access the recreation area on
Uludağ mountain more quickly and comfortably
using the nine kilometer-long gondola lift, the
longest monocable gondola lift in the world.
Lengthy bus or taxi rides are now a thing of the
past. In addition, in 2014 three ropeways were
completed in Sivas in Anatolia, three others in
Tavas Bozdag, as well as one in Ilgaz.
France
The new 8-passenger gondola lift, Des Villards,
was constructed at the Les Arcs ski resort.
During the winter season it is in operation until
11:00 pm. Thanks to the new 6-seater chairlift
Mont Joux, the connection between Megève
and ­St. Gervais has improved considerably. In
the Le Lioran ski esort in the Massif Central, passengers arrive to the slopes significantly quicker. The new CD6 Buron du Baguet is the first
detachable 6-seater chairlift in the region. At Le
Dévoluy in the Hautes Alpes, a new aerial tramway – a combination of passenger transport and
material handling ropeway installation – has established a notably improved connection to the
Pic de Bure and the Observatory.
Poland, Slovakia
In the Wisla Skolnity ski area in the Beskid Mountains in Poland, the new CF4 Wisla Skolnity is
contributing to a substantial expansion of summer and winter recreational opportunities. The
new CD6C Rohace Express in the Roháče­
Spálená ski center in Slovakia is equipped with
DirectDrive, seat heating, blue bubbles and an
up-to-date automated garaging system.
Serbia
Kopaonik, the largest ski area in Serbia, completed two new 6-seater chairlifts, outfitted with
bubbles and seat heating. Thanks to these
systems, FIS races can also be held at this ski
resort.

New premium seats, exclusive cabins and
sustainable drive systems
In 2015, the focus is still on innovative design
and highest quality. This concerns destination-specific branding of the ropeways as well
as exclusive accessories. Together with its customers, LEITNER ropeways is constantly working on attractive options, setting new standards with high-quality innovations, including,
for example, the new LEITNER Premium Chair
with its automotive design and genuine leather cover. Particularly impressive is the new 3S
cabin designed by Pininfarina. Highlights of this
spectacular cabin include: panoramic view, high
seating comfort, frame lighting with individual
illumination options, a multimedia system, customized ventilation system and a glass floor that
can be switched to transparent on command.
Likewise notable: the innovative DirectDrive system, which has established itself as a standard
at LEITNER ropeways.
Winter sports – more comfort, better
design and new connections
Numerous new ropeway installations underscore the growing demand for more passenger comfort and greater experience quality on
mountain trips. Thus, in Ponte di Legno at the
Tonale Pass in Italy, an 8-passenger gondola lift
to the Passo Presena will be built, allowing the
operating period to be extended to 10 months,
thereby enhancing the attractiveness of this
glacier region as a tourist destination. Two gondola lifts in Gerlos in the Zillertal will provide a
new direct connection from the village to the ski
area. In 2016, the 3S Eisgratbahn at the Stubai Glacier will start operation as an important
connecting ropeway. This will be the world’s first
tricable gondola lift with DirectDrive and will operate year-round. This year the 6-seater chairlift
Joscht Hirli is being constructed in Zermatt. In
addition, LEITNER ropeways will build a new
3S gondola lift in the highest ski area in Europe,
running from the Trockener Steg station to the
Klein Matterhorn, where one of the highest top
stations in Europe is located. In Laax, customers
buying the new GD10 Sogn Martin are placing
particular value on design. A particularly family-friendly 6-seater chairlift is being built in the
Feldberg ski area in the German High Black
Forest. In addition, a new CD6C ropeway with
blue bubbles and black-blue comfort seats at
the Černá Hora ski resort in the Czech Republic
will attract the users’ attention.
Tourism – bears, gorillas and spectacular
panoramas
Two new projects demonstrate that ropeways
offer advantages beyond carrying winter sports
enthusiasts to their destination and solving traffic
problems by providing interesting new perspectives. Visitors to the Cabárceno Nature Park, in
the northern Spanish province of Cantabria, can
travel directly to bears and gorillas in two new
gondola lifts. Passengers on the new inclined
elevator at Castel San Pietro in Verona can enjoy
impressive views of the area.
Urban passenger transport – panoramic
tour above the garden show
LEITNER ropeways is constructing pioneering
urban ropeways worldwide. In the Ecatepec de Morelos district of Mexico City, the first
Mexican urban ropeways are being built – and
the first with DirectDrive in the Americas. Both
projects have an overall length of 4,700 meters.
For the Berlin 2017 International Garden Show,
LEITNER ropeways is going to build a gondola
lift that will enable visitors to experience a 1.5
kilometer panoramic ride from the main entrance
to the Blumberger Damm. Located directly
at the subway station, the garden is optimally
linked to the public transportation system. In a
new shopping complex with amusement park
near Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, a GD10 gondola
lift, the Awana Skyway, will become the primary
form of transportation.

Success for eezii
New 8-seater chairlift in La Plagne
Thanks to efficiency, low costs and environmental sustainability, the new eezii concept is proving to be a resounding success. Since January
2014, when the first two french eezii installations
were opened in Notre-Dame-de-Bellecombe
(Savoie) and Orcières-Merlette (Hautes-Alpes),
demand has risen steeply. Châtel (Haute-­Savoie)
also chose an eezii 6 for the strategically important connection between Super Châtel and
Linga (Pré-la-Joux), which started operations
this winter.
The new MULTIX 8 chairlift at Les Colosses in
La Plagne - France is equipped with the revolutionary DirectDrive. It is the world’s first detachable chairlift to transport 4,400 passengers per
hour at a speed of 6 meters per second. The
DirectDrive technology means less noise, considerable energy savings, lower maintenance
requirements and greater sustainability.
High demands on environmental protection
The Plan Joran MULTIX 10 monocable gondola
lift in the Mont-Blanc region once again proves
that in the field of environmental impact, POMA
can deliver superb quality. La Compagnie du
Mont-Blanc places extremely high value on sustainability, as well as comfort, safety and availability. On the one hand, there were environmental
issues to be considered for the area around the
ropeway, on the other hand, the work had to be
completed within a year. This explains why the
existing project team was supplemented by a
group of environmental experts. The majority of
their work consisted of ensuring that the wildlife
was not impacted. Before any earthworks started, a survey was made to ensure there were no
butterflies or caterpillars on site. The two phases
of pouring concrete into the foundations and the
helicopter transport were carefully planned, so
that the black grouse was not unduly disturbed
during its’ mating stage. Further progress was
coordinated with the Chamonix’s local hunting
association. Plan Joran is a perfect example of
POMA‘s expertise, as technical performance
combines with respect for environmental protection and eco-systems.
Child-friendly ropeway in La Clusaz
The Telemix Bossonet system consists of
6-seater chairs and 10-passenger cabins. This
combination gives passengers and children in
particular easy boarding and safe transport. It
can carry 2,450 passengers per hour, thereby
considerably reducing the wait time in line.
New ropeways in North America
One highlight among the new ropeways planned
for North America is the first detachable 6-seater chairlift, the Sun Burst Express at Okemo
Resort, contains orange bubbles and heated
chairs. Breckenridge’s Colorado Superchair was
replaced with a detachable 6-seater chairlift. The
stations are finished in wood panelling and there
is a loading carpet for easy boarding. One of
LEITNER-POMA of America’s most spectacular
installations was for the Royal Gorge outside
Canon City, Colorado. A historic aerial tramway
was there dating from 1946 was replaced by a
monocable gondola. The breathtaking trip over
the canyon features a span length of 754 meters at a height of 397 meters above the canyon floor. In addition, LEITNER-POMA supplied
a high-speed 6-seater chairlift to Curvey Basin
near Queenstown in New Zealand.

Spectacular View in Vietnam
Hong Kong giant wheel
Asia is another part of the world where a number
of spectacular ropeways have been installed.
The 3.5 kilometers, 8-passenger gondola ropeway in Nui Cam, Vietnam consists of two stations, 89 cabins and 16 towers, and can transport 2,000 passengers per hour between Lam
Vien Tourist Resort at the foot of Nui Cam (Cam
Mountain) and Vo Ong Buom at the summit.
With an altitude of nearly 710 meters, Nui Cam
is the highest mountain in the Mekong Delta
and it offers tourists a superb panoramic view
of the area. The gondola can carry visitors to the
Buddhist temples in the Mekong Delta in just a
few minutes.
The 60-meter high giant wheel in Hong Kong is
located near Central Star Ferry Pier, and offers
an incredible view over Victoria Harbour. The
giant wheel’s 42 air-conditioned cabins supply
free WiFi and each one can accommodate between eight to ten passengers. The ride lasts a
full 20 minutes, during which passengers get
an unbelievable 360º view of one of the world’s
most iconic skylines and its stunning harbour.
There are several opportunities to get the perfect shot as the cabins make three rounds in
every ride.
URBAN PASSENGER TRANSPORT
Korea: By cable car to a national hero’s
memorial
In Yeosu, a port in the south-west of South
Korea, local residents and visitors use an
8-passenger gondola to comfortably reach the
memorial to the national hero, Yi Sun Sin, on
nearby Dolsando Island. They can also enjoy
fantastic views at a height of 100 meters above
sea level over a length of 1,490 meters.
Inclined elevator in Nice
Connecting a hotel resort to the beach, the inclined elevator in Nice has been designed for
passenger transportation. Proximity to the sea
and exposure to salt, wind and water subject the
system to severe stress, so with its anti-corrosion stainless steel and galvanized components,
the whole installation is extremely resistant to all
of the elements. After one minute of inactivity,
the vehicle automatically ascends to the shaded
top station to ensure comfortable internal temperatures.

URBAN PASSENGER TRANSPORT
A 10-passenger gondola with DirectDrive has
started operations in the French Ski Resort of
Montalbert - La Plagne. The 2,200-meter long
ropeway can carry 2,800 passengers per hour.
A new 6-seater chairlift in Les Brochaux - Avoriaz
will replace an older 4-seater chairlift and provide
more comfort with a faster travel time. The Les
Combes 6-seater chairlift in M
­ éribel Mottaret France aims to ease the pressure on traffic in
the beginners’ zone and it will also run in the
evenings.
Two new eezii ropeways are under construction
in Switzerland: La Forêt in Saint-Luc-Chandolin and Laouissalet, which will connect Villars-sur-Ollon and Les Diablerets in Meilleret.
POMA is building three new ropeways in the
Chinese Ski Resort of Chongli in the province
of Hebei. The resort is located two-and-a-halfhours away from Beijing. The region is bidding to
stage the 2022 Winter Olympics. Work is underway on an 8-passenger gondola with a mid-station, a 6-seater chairlift and a 4-seater chairlift.
Next winter will see the completion of a new
gondola on Mount Elbrus in the Russian Balkaria
Region in the Caucasus. It will be 1,675 meters
long and rise to 3,850 meters. Mount Elbrus at
5,646 meters is Europe’s highest peak.
The North American market for 2015 is expected to grow as much as it did in the previous year,
and the prospects for urban ropeways are good.
Ropeways are the perfect solution for traffic
problems in large cities. To ease the burden on
the very busy motorways, the Algerian town of
Tizi Ouzou, 100 kilometers east from Algiers, will
be getting two 10-passenger gondola lifts and
one aerial tramway.
In the Colombian metropolis­of Medellín, the
three POMA gondola lifts “Líneas K, J and L”,
are being extended to include the new tram
line “Corredor Verde”, which will connect to two
more gondolas, “Líneas H and M”, each with a
middle station.
TOURISM APPLICATIONS
Kuelap fortress is one of the oldest archaeological sites in Peru and will soon be accessible via
an 8-passenger gondola. It will be a more comfortable alternative than the unpaved road that
climbs to 3,070 meters.
Kök-Töbe is the highest point in Almaty in
Kazakhstan and a popular destination for family
outings. A new gondola lift will connect the town
with the site, situated at an altitude of 1,135
meters. The new 1,632-meter ropeway will be
fitted with 17 diamond cabins. Travel time will be
less than four minutes and the system is capable of carrying around 750 passengers per hour.
POMA engineers have devised an ingenious
parking system, so that the installation blends
in well with the surrounding parkland. This eliminates the need for additional buildings.
The Bolivian town of Oruro, whose carnival has
brought it UNESCO World Heritage status, is
to receive an 8-passenger gondola lift, which
will link the city center with the Santuario del
Socavón.
In the center of Santiago de Chile, a GD6
gondola lift will carry visitors inside the Parque
Metropolitano from the entrance up to the summit of the San Cristóbal hill.

UK – Brighton’s i360 tower
France – an underground funicular for the
disposal of radioactive waste
The unique i360 observation tower is set to become one of the United Kingdom’s biggest tourist attractions. It will be located in the seaside
resort of Brighton. Work has already started and
the opening ceremony is expected to take place
in the summer of 2016. The i360 will be operated by Brighton i360 Ltd, a team formed by four
companies: the Jacobs Engineering Group Inc.
(Jacobs), the London Architects Marks Barfield,
the Dutch company Hollandia and the POMA
French subsidiary SIGMA. This team has already
worked together on the construction of the famous London Eye wheel; David Marks and Julia
Barfield are the architects and creators of the
London Eye and of the i360. The structure of
this huge vertical aerial ropeway was once again
designed by Jacobs.
The i360 will have at ground level a restaurant,
a souvenir shop, an exhibition area and facilities
for conferences and special events.
In north-east France, POMA will be building an
underground funicular for Andra, the French authority responsible for the disposal of radioactive
waste. Developed in collaboration with subsidiary companies, SEMER and COMAG, the
ropeway will be part of Cigeo, a grand project
for the deep storage of radioactive waste. Cigeo
consists of above ground facilities for handling
the arrival, inspection and packaging of radioactive material, an underground installation for
storing waste containers and also other connecting systems. POMA’s funicular is designed
to shuttle between the surface and the underground installation at a depth of 500 meters. Its’
main function is the safe transportation down to
the underground storage galleries of radioactive
waste and heavy loads weighing up to 143 tons
(130 metric tonnes). At the same time, maximum precision and safety is required to comply
with regulations laid down by the Autorité de
Sûreté Nucléaire (Authority for Nuclear Safety).
The project requires POMA to collaborate with
three companies: Airbus Defence and Space,
which is also in charge of the studies and design of Cigeo’s surface installations, Millennium,
experts in engineering in the field of nuclear risk
management and Ligeron, a firm specializing in
operational safety. Completion of the funicular is
scheduled for 2024, with customer service and
maintenance carried out by POMA from 2025.

Heavy duty load cablecrane for the
hydroelectric dam in Peru
Flyingbelt for the brazilian quarry
Thanks to an AGUDIO radial cablecrane, construction of the Cerro del Águila hydroelectric
dam is in full swing. Since its technical acceptance in May 2014, the system has been operating without interruption. Due to the tremendous
load bearing capacity of 28 tons, the crane,
apart from concreting, can be utilized for transporting all heaving equipment in the area of the
dam. The structure requires pouring 500,000
cubic meters of concrete. For construction of
the dam, the customer, Consorzio Rio Mantaro,
selected a cablecrane since the area around the
dam is characterized by very difficult terrain with
steep valley walls and an absence of access
roads; in addition, using typical transport means
is heavily impeded during the rainy season.
Assembly work for the AGUDIO flyingbelt continues at full speed. The seven-kilometer-long belt
conveyor, designed for transporting limestone,
is being constructed for the Swiss building materials manufacturer Holcim in the Barroso quarry in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais.
After completion of the 18 towers and the loading station, the AGUDIO team finished the cable
for two of the four sections of the flyingbelt while
supporting the customer with the assembly of
the support structures for the conveyor between
the loading station and the first midway station,
2 km distant. By year’s end, all work should be
completed and the system handed over. Once
again, the market leader in concrete production
relied on AGUDIO for its transport requirements.
Megaproject in Turkey
Transport solutions for energy companies
The cooperation between AGUDIO and the
ENEL Group, established 10 years ago, remains
strong. In addition to the maintenance contracts
for the installations servicing the hydroelectric
power plants in the alpine region, AGUDIO has
also secured the contract for the refurbishment
of a two-section ropeway for transporting material and ENEL personnel from Aviasco (BG)
to the Lago Nero dam, and a material handling
funicular serving the Vinadio power plant (CN).
In the interest of safety and reliability during
transport, all major system components were
overhauled or replaced.
For the IREN Energia Group in Turin, AGUDIO
replaced all vehicles of the six material handling
funiculars for the power stations in the Orco Valley and secured a five-year maintenance contract for all ropeway installations.
Three AGUDIO cablecranes will provide the
most important material transport for the construction of the Yusufeli dam in Turkey. More
than 3 million cubic meters of concrete will be
poured for the highest dam in Turkey, which will
also be the third-highest dam in the world.
AGUDIO cablecranes were selected due to their
high reliability and unmatched performance.
Faced with a height of 300 meters, the lowering
and lifting speed of 3.0 m/s and load capacity of
28 tons make these cablecranes a world leader.
Two of the cablecranes are already in Turkey
where they will be assembled in the spring as
soon as the customer has completed the required support work. It is anticipated that the
cablecranes will go into service at the end of
2015.

With the two brands LEITNER ropeways and
POMA, the HTI group is investing in the highly promising area of short distance passenger
transport, making use of the synergies within its
various corporate fields, and university research.
Development has been driven by demand for
rubber-tired, cable-drawn transportation systems with modularly constructed trains. The
group has developed a cutting-edge innovation
with its the newly designed bogie for the APM
(Automated People Mover), which has already
been implemented in two specific projects, to
be put into service in 2016. The projects take
the new bogie undercarriages from our technology department and new vehicle modules,
developed by SIGMA as their base. Preliminary
studies simulating the dynamic behaviour of the
trains on the project tracks were carried out at
the University of Pisa, thus defining the components to be further tried by the test department
in Vipiteno/Sterzing (Italy) and subsequently
incorporated into a prototype. The modular design of the bogie means that it can be applied in
a range of contexts with just some small modifications. The first practical application of this new
concept will be in APM projects in Miami (USA)
and Pisa (Italy). Our production department constructs the bogies for Miami International Airport, whilst SIGMA then assembles the cabins
together with the bogies before delivering them
to America.
Miami – Project Status Speed, silence, comfort, availability and
eco-friendliness, are the basic requirements
for the new MiniMetro® for Miami International
Airport, the main gateway between the United
States, Latin America and the Caribbean. The
new MiniMetro® is expected to transport over 30
million passengers a year along a 375 m line.
The Automated People Mover is comprised of
2 trains transporting over 5,600 passengers per
hour, per direction, running at 3 minute intervals.
LEITNER-POMA (LPOA) has been contracted to
operate and maintain the installation for the next
15 years. This new APM system’s success lies
in its low maintenance and operational costs,
as well as, its extensive safety features. On-site
installation of the south lane will commence in
mid-April of 2015.
The contract is a testimony of extreme reliability
of the MiniMetro® technology.
Pisa – Project Status
Having been awarded the contract in spring
2012 and addressing various administrative
recourses, PISAMOVER has provided the replacement bus service for the people mover
line since January 2014. Building work and the
production of the technical installation started in
autumn of 2014. Construction should be completed by summer of 2015 with commissioning
being scheduled for summer of 2016.
The PISAMOVER project is a MiniMetro® running at 5 minute intervals between Galileo Galilei
International Airport and Pisa’s main railway station. The distance of almost 2 km, including a
stop at the commuter car park, will be covered in
just 4 minutes. This project employs the unique
DirectDrive system, once again ideally utilizing
the synergies within the HTI group. The DirectDrive is a huge improvement for MiniMetro®­
technology.

In spite of the mild winter in 2013/14 and the
political upheaval in Eastern Europe and Russia,
PRINOTH managed to match the level of sales
achieved in the prior year. Positive performances
in the Alpine countries, Scandinavia, Japan, and
China were more than enough to offset the decline in Russia. Sales of the NEW LEITWOLF
in the Alpine countries and Scandinavia were
particularly impressive. The North American
market remained stable, with major customers
in particular showing more and more confidence in PRINOTH. The company’s expertise in
North America was also highlighted by the “best
groomed ski resort” rankings, with eight out of
the top ten ski resorts using PRINOTH vehicles.
The used vehicle market continues to pose the
biggest challenge, With revenues suffering in
2014 as a result of the poor snow situation and
mild temperatures.

its skills as a reliable partner for major events
at the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World
Championships in Kreischberg and at the 2015
FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Vail/Beaver Creek. “We are delighted to have PRINOTH
on board as an official supplier for in the 2015
World Ski Championships in Vail/Beaver Creek,”
said Michael Imhof, member of the Organizing Committee. In Kreischberg, too, PRINOTH
was an exclusive supplier and ensured that
slopes, parks and pipes were all prepared to
world-championship standard. In addition to
these two top-class events, PRINOTH has
signed a four-year agreement with the U.S. Ski
and Snowboard Association.

TRACKED UTILITY VEHICLES
Market in 2014
It was another important year for PRINOTH
Tracked Utility Vehicles. Not only did it represent
the largest number of Utility Vehicle sales in a
single year to date but also PRINOTH’s presence at 2 major Commercial shows allowed
PRINOTH the highlight the new members of the
PANTHER line-up. While some markets rose or
stayed steady, others declined. However, the
PANTHER lineup of vehicles continued to make
friends regardless of the application.
International Construction & Utility
Equipment Exhibition
Starting in October 2013 at the ICUEE show
in Louisville, Kentucky the PANTHER T6 was
shown to the Electric Utility industry for the first
time. A number of configurations were on display
at the PRINOTH booth and also at the ALTEC
booth allowing for the public to see various uses
for the “smallest PANTHER”. Also at this show
the AWHI RT 200 and other AWHI attachments
were on display. Having these products allowed
PRINOTH to show to the marketplace that we
can provide many types of vehicles regardless
of the work to be done.
CONEXPO
In March of 2014 PRINOTH returned to
Las Vegas for the CONEXPO show, the largest equipment show in North America. At
CONEXPO the PANTHER T12 was unveiled for
the first time to the public. The T12 was met with
great enthusiasm and reception of this product
was very positive. CONEXPO 2014 provided
PRINOTH the opportunity to showcase the entire PANTHER lineup to date. The T6, T8 and the
new T12 were front and center at the PRINOTH
booth. The public could easily see all the potential in the workplace provided by the PANTHER
lineup. Also at CONEXPO was the AWHI Raptor
800. The impressiveness of this vehicle turned
many heads and created a great deal of interest
in the AWHI lineup. CONEXPO 2014 was a very
beneficial show for PRINOTH as it exposed the
Tracked Utility Vehicle lineup to a much larger
and diverse clientele base, perhaps our best
show to date.
2014 Initiatives
A number of major initiatives were kicked off in
2014, all with the intention of growing the Utility
Vehicle business over the coming years. One of
these initiatives is a dedicated effort to expand
PRINOTH’s dealer network across North America. Partners in all regions of the continent and
in all sectors of activity are being sought. This
activity will allow PRINOTH’s Utility Vehicles a
much larger and broader exposure to more diverse markets and will contribute to growth over
the next years. In conjunction with this search,
new applications and configurations are continually being explored in order to aid the growth
of the line.
The Caterpillar network is being approached
across the continent as well as rental houses in all key regions and sectors of activity.
The expansion of the dealer network will allow
PRINOTH to better serve the customers’ needs
by being closer to them and readily able to react
to market changes.

The 2014 fiscal year got off to a very good start
in the European markets. The mild winter meant
that our customers were able to work all day
most days, allowing them to prolong the season. This had a particularly positive impact on
the spare parts and repair services and ensured
good capacity utilization.
Thanks to the sale of several RT400 vehicles
under a major project, Russia once again proved
to be a key market for carrier systems. Meanwhile, the first specially equipped RAPTOR 800s
with HDDL drive and SB1200 stump busters
were delivered in Australia. HDDL is an innovative drive concept that enables these sturdy and
reliable vehicles to be used even more efficiently,
especially in difficult operating conditions. The
RAPTOR 800 has been extremely well received
in Africa, too, where we have recorded strong
initial sales.
In early July, PRINOTH presented is forestry
technology to an expert audience at Interforst, the international forestry trade fair in
Munich. On display were the new PRINOTH
RAPTOR 300 tracked tractor, the M650-2300
and M450-H1100 mulchers and the RFL 700
rotavator. Together with our partners, we were
able to welcome many clients and establish new
contacts. Some keenly interested visitors had
travelled specially from Scandinavia, Central and
Eastern Europe, North America, and even Australia. Shortly before Interforst, Moscow played
host to the CTT, the leading specialist trade
fair for the construction industry in Russia and
Eastern Europe. PRINOTH joined forces with its
local partner in Moscow to showcase the RT200
alongside the FM600 mulcher.

such as heavy clearing, Vegetation Management around pipelines and power lines, creation
of fire breaks and re-cultivation tasks in professional plantation and forestry, the RAPTOR 800

2014 was the most successful year in
DEMAC­LENKO’s history, by selling over 1,000
snowmaking machines. Numerous projects
were started and completed successfully, allowing DEMACLENKO to claim leadership in

­ lpine region as a provider of all-in-one solutions. Orders from many famous and prestigious
ski resorts confirm the accomplishments of the
Company, and customer feedback indicates
high satisfaction with our products. Machines

Betriebs GmbH: the alpine region proves to
be a strong partner
In order to guarantee the best snow and piste
quality, the Silvretta Montafon ski resort was
recently equipped with a modern and efficient
snowmaking system. One pumping station
(300 l/s), one cooling system (120 l/s), 60 snow
lances, over 80 fan guns and SnowVisual control software round out the project.
The Murtal Seilbahnen Betriebs GmbH at
Kreisch­
berg relied on the latest snowmaking
technology for the FIS Freestyle Ski & Snowboard 2015 World Championship. The project
comprises the overhaul of the pumping station
(600 l/s – 2000 kW) including the cooling system
(300 l/s – 180 kW), the purchase of new snow
guns and the DEMACLENKO SnowVisual control system (linking to third-party products).
Georgia­did not miss the opportunity to pay a
visit to the new ski resort.
In December, both facilities were officially put
into operation and already enjoy a great deal of
popularity.

life. Constant testing of new materials by leading manufacturers and the development of new
production processes and technologies allow

Georgia offers new challenges
DEMACLENKO is conquering new markets and
extending feelers into the Democratic Republic
of Georgia by equipping the ski resorts Gudauri
and Divdeli with a modern snowmaking system.
During the construction of the installation, the
ski areas found themselves on completely new
ground, since previously they got by without any
artificial snowmaking. DEMACLENKO was able
to win the confidence of the decision-makers
who were quite pleased at the outcome when

2014 SUCCESSES
OUTLOOK FOR 2015
The results speak for themselves: By the end of
2014, there were 284 LEITWIND wind turbines
installed worldwide, with a total rated output of
388.20 MW producing 2 billion kilowatt hours of
energy, thus saving 1.1 million tons of CO2 emissions. In 2014, the average technical availability
of LEITWIND wind turbines was 98.8%.
Turkey
New models certified
LEITWIND is constantly making sure all certifications are up to date and has successfully certified the LTW80 and LTW101 models. In order to
meet the demands of target markets, the company has developed a new configuration of the
LTW80 1.5 MW model that is already installed at
75 sites. The certificate, in accordance with IEC
61400, was obtained for the new version with
a rated output of 1.0 MW. While a wind turbine
with this unit was already successfully tested in
Bulgaria, a prototype of the LTW101 model with
3.0 MW output exceeded the requirements in
the Netherlands. The German TÜV Süd issued
certification for this version according to the latest IEC 61400 international standard for Classes
II A and III A.
LEITWIND is contracted to install the first 1.0
MW LTW80 turbine developed specifically for
the Turkish market. The turbine will be constructed in Tokat for the Çavusoglu Tower luxury hotel
chain. It will be offset by a substantial reduction
of the high energy costs of the four-star hotel.
Also in Tokat, LEITWIND secured its’ first public
contract. Within a year and a half, the 1.0 MW
turbine will supply the public buildings in the
province of Tokat with clean energy. Both orders
also include a maintenance contract.
LEITWIND opens a branch office in Turkey
At the beginning of February 2015, LEITWIND,
with the support of Leitner Turkey, established
the Leitwind Turkey branch office in Bursa to
consolidate its’ market and provide customer
proximity. Bursa, with its 2 million inhabitants, is
the fourth-largest city in the western part of the
country and lies on the slopes of the 2,543 meter-high Uludağ. In Uludağ Ski Resort, LEITNER
ropeways has already constructed two gondolas and anticipates installing more in the future.

Thanks to cutting edge technology and firstclass operating assistance, LEITWIND has secured its strong position in the Italian market.
New perspectives are being applied to the
consolidated markets, which includes India,
Turkey and Switzerland. France and England
are markets that LEITWIND would like to target,
as they have legal standards advantageous to
LEITWIND wind turbines. LEITWIND is using
trade shows, such as the ICCI in Istanbul, the
RenewableUK in Liverpool and EWEA annual
event, in Paris to reach these markets.
Leitwind Shriram (LSML) has won a prestigious
contract from the Gujarat Industrial Power Company for a wind farm with 34 LTW80 turbines
each producing 1.5 MW. The wind farm is expected to be installed in the spring of 2015 in
Gujarat.

including the Tadipatri wind farm in Andhra
Pradesh producing 43.2 MW and another in
