up with toys. After countless hours graciously donated by
volunteers, Toys for Tots was able to deliver once again, Christmas
cheers to many children this year! We will like thank all of the

MCL Auxiliary News
MCLA KINDLE RAFFLE
The Jack Ivy Marine Corp League Auxiliary, Unit 496 would like to thank all our
members for working so diligently creating and selling the tickets for the Kindle
Fire HD. Due to your excellent work this has been an extremely successful fund
raiser and our best for 2013. We would also like to thank Dallas Banschbach,
owner of the Bayshore Diner, who assisted greatly in selling our tickets and
helped us reach our goal. Dallas was also chosen by the Ways & Means
committee to draw the winning ticket which was held on Nov 8th at her diner. Pres. Helen Couluris, Lorraine Sweeney, Carolyn Gill and Elaine Seale were on
hand to witness the drawing. We are happy to announce the winner of the Kindle
Fire HD is Babe Garneau, a veteran and member of the American Legion Post
318. President Helen Couluris and Lorraine Sweeney were asked by Commander
Daryl Bowie to present the Kindle Fire HD to the very surprised "Babe" on Nov 9
at the beginning of their monthly meeting. A huge "thank you" to those of you
who purchased the tickets and helped make this a most successful fund raiser. All
the proceeds will be used for our on-going Veteran Services Program. Semper Fidelis

MARINE CORPS HISTORY
EIGHTEEN EIGHTIES
Decade began with 1,968 Marines (1,906 Enlisted; 62 Officers)
Decade ended with 1,772 Marines (1,718 Enlisted; 54 Officers)
8th Commandant: Colonel Charles McCawley (1876-1891)
Leaders: 1880: John Philip Sousa
A Musical Heritage
Long before his music inspired the nation, John Philip Sousa took an
apprenticeship with the Marine Band at age 13.
He officially became head of the Marine Corps Band in 1880, conducting "The
President's Own" under five presidents. Sousa was a gifted composer and
became known as "The March King." His music continues to bring honor to the Marine Corps today. Many of his
well-known compositions, including "The Stars and Stripes Forever," the
National March of the United States and "Semper Fidelis," the Official March of
the Marine Corps, are still widely recognized. FALLEN HEROES
In the month of November, we bid farewell to
fellow service member: Rick Moore. We pray for
God’s mercy over his family.
May the Lord continue to keep our fallen heroes
in His Grace.
