Greetings,
It’s Three Rivers Festival time! Since 2010 when I came to the Festival, the time seems to pass
faster and faster each year. I know there are 365 days between each Three Rivers Festival, but
when the countdown calendar on my desk hits 150 days, they just start to fly by. Our dedicated
staff and volunteers work all year long to create this special nine day event designed to offer great
summertime activities. When the Festival started in 1969, there were very few festivals in Fort Wayne.
We are very proud to say we have been Fort Wayne’s Favorite Summer Celebration since 1969,
and it’s through great corporate partners, and especially with our new Title Sponsor, Hanning &
Bean, that we can continue.
This year we kick off the 46th Three Rivers Festival with music, sports and free river excursions on
opening weekend. CHEAP TRICK leads the way with over four decades of great music; they perform Friday night in the Hanning & Bean Plaza. The Indianapolis Colts bring their popular Fan Fest
on Friday from 5-7pm. See players & cheerleaders, get autographs, test your skills and enjoy free
live music, all on the corner of Clinton and Superior Street. Starting at 4 pm Friday and continuing
through the weekend, departing from Headwaters West, you can enjoy a leisurely ride on the St.
Mary’s, learn about our river’s past and help us dream about the future, with Steel Dynamics and
the City of Fort Wayne’s Free River Excursions.
You won’t want to miss the Lutheran Health Network Parade; this year’s theme is “Reflecting
on our Rivers.” Later on Saturday the 12th, it’s the Under the Sun Tour with Sugar Ray, Smash Mouth,
Uncle Kracker and Blues Traveler! All of our shows are affordable because of great partners like
Ash Brokerage, Vera Bradley and Meijer. For only $45, you can see EVERY show at the 2014 Three
Rivers Festival.
I’m running out of space, but not out of great things to do at the Three Rivers Festival! Check
out NASA’s Journey to Tomorrow exhibit July 11 thru 13 in Headwaters East. We have packed
Headwaters East and West with more Carnival rides this year than ever before. The Waiter- Waitress
Contest on Monday, now at 6pm; $2 Tuesday with great $2 treats in Junk Food Alley and $2 beers
in the H&B Plaza; along with the new “Young at Heart” Senior event at the Grand Wayne Center.
The Bed Race on Wednesday, great Country Music on Thursday with “American Young,” and on
Friday July 18th in the Hanning & Bean Plaza, back by popular demand, it’s “Who’s Bad: The Ultimate Michael Jackson Tribute.” Since we had so much fun last year, the Hotel Fitness Raft Race will
be back on Saturday, July 19th. Make a raft or join in with thousands along
the Saint Mary’s River just to watch these wild & creative watercrafts race
for $14,000 in CASH! All of that happens before the City’s best Fireworks
Saturday July 19, shot from the top of One Summit Square.
A big thanks to Mayor Henry and the City of Fort Wayne, the Allen
County Commissioners, Police and Fire Departments and to all the volunteers that make the Three Rivers Festival possible!
Jack Hammer,
Executive Director, Three Rivers Festival
