SAT TESTING
THIS SATURDAY
If we have inclement weather on Friday night,
the easiest way to find out if we will still have
the test is to contact ETS (online or call). Our
plan is to administer the test no matter the
weather unless conditions call for the District
Superintendent to close the building. If you
think road conditions would make it unsafe
for your student to come, you will need to
contact ETS and request a reschedule date.
Please listen to the radio
and TV for any
announcements…
SENIORS AND SENIOR PARENTS: PLEASE READ
RILEY INSTITUTE—EMERGING PUBLIC LEADERS (EPL) PROGRAM
It is that time of year when the Riley Institute begins crafting our 2016-2017 Emerging Public Leaders (EPL)
program. We are looking for a group of dynamic and engaged juniors who strive to become leaders and improve their
communities. This year, thanks to a grant from Duke Energy, we have expanded the program to include 24 students (8
more than last year!) and have added an emphasis on diversity leadership to all of the sessions, activities, and service
projects.
Here is a brief description of the program:
Furman’s Emerging Public Leaders and the new Emerging Diversity Leaders is a leadership and civic engagement program
for high school students sponsored by the Richard W. Riley Institute of Government, Politics and Public Leadership. This
week-long summer program (June 19 – 24, 2016) offers a series of experiences that enable students to develop into civic
minded and engaged leaders in their communities. During the week, participants attend workshops at Furman that
prepare them to plan and implement a service project addressing a specific need within their own communities. Students
will then return to campus in the spring to present the results of their projects to their peers and a panel of judges.
Additional project funds are awarded to the winner.
The program is free of charge to all current juniors who are selected this spring to participate.
Our EPL website contains a short video about the program, a link to the application, and additional information https://riley.furman.edu/education/projects/emerging-public-leaders/emerging-public-leaders
APPLICATIONS ARE DUE FRIDAY, MAY 6, 2016. Interested teachers, counselors, and administration may
contact Melanie Armstrong ([email protected] or 864-294-3688) at the Riley Institute for additional
information.
