15-25 October 2015 www.imagineartsfestival.com Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life Treat Someone to a Night Out The Mall www.theatreroyal.ie 051 874402 www.odonovandesign.com WELCOME Welcome to Imagine Arts Festival and to our varied and eclectic programme. The festival is now in its 14th year and is put together by the hard work of local volunteers who have a love for the arts and culture. Highlights this year include a retrospective by Waterford artist Pat Murphy, the Imagine Crime Writing Award, which goes to John Banville, and the return of the great trad band Danú who are sure to bring the house down at the Tower Hotel. Our play writing workshop will bring emerging writers from Waterford, Wexford and Kilkenny together for the first time and hopefully this confluence will bear fruits in future years. Imagine is Waterford’s arts festival and we hope you will support it by attending some events and also feel free to get involved in the future as a performer or as a supporter. We would like to thank all our sponsors, advertisers, artists and especially all the volunteers who help to make it all happen. Friends of Imagine: Dr. Darach Brennan, Dr. T. Celebrating 20 years on the road Danú are now recognised as the most exciting act on the Irish Trad scene today. With a new album ‘Buan’ receiving rave reviews throughout Ireland, UK and US, the audience in the Tower Hotel are certainly in for a treat. “Twenty years together have yet to dull Danú’s edge. In fact, the maturity of their new collection, produced by Dónal Lunny, captures what far too few traditional bands manage.... ...At Danú’s heart is West Kerry singer and flute player Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, whose song choices are distilled to their essence. ...A set anchored by Danú’s unforced, highly calibrated arrangements. Buan is a collection that invites repeated listening, without ever resorting to harried overdrive” Review by Siobhan Long, Irish Times for Danu’s new album ‘Buan’ “...what may be the best Danú album yet” ****(four stars) Songlines (UK) Sponsored by Tower Hotel www.imagineartsfestival.com 15 IMAGINE JOHN DWYER TRAD WEEKEND PAT O’BRIEN MEMORIAL COMPOSITION COMPETITION SATURDAY 17 OCTOBER / 5-6PM DOOLEY’S HOTEL / FREE EVENT Final of the “Pat O’Brien Memorial TRAD WORKSHOPS SATURDAY 17 OCTOBER / 10AM–1PM GAELSCOIL NA NDÉISE E20 (FAMILY RATES AVAILABLE) Tickets at the Door Booking essential 087 9664436 Flute: Tommy Fitzharris Whistle: Seán Ryan Composition Competition” (u-18’s) NOTE: All entrants please send your compositions in mp3 format to [email protected] by Friday 9th October 2015.
