And may the rain be at your back and the sun on your front and the green in your checking account! 1 And while I am stirring enthusiasm for our activities, let me remind you all of the Region 8 “Route 66 Rally”, hosted by our own Fred and Dottie Steurer in Springfield, Mo. on April 25-29, application for which is in the Blue Beret, followed by the Caravan to Branson or What’s Left of It, lead by “Easy K” Knernschield, where dazzling entertainment in the playground of the Ozarks will be on display. See coupon below. And while I am unashamedly shilling for Ed, let me remind you of his caravan to Door County Wisconsin, September 8-18. This promises to be truly memorable and has been pitched to all Region 8 Units, so better get your name on the list as this one will fill up soon. See coupon below. Also attached below is a reservation form for the 50th Anniversary Luncheon in St. Charles on June 2. Recollections of the formative years by Bill Thomas and other early members will be woven into the festivities and door prizes will be awarded. The Hamlin-Ponas (11792) will soon be leaving on their first extended airstream/cycling trip down the Natchez Trace, continuing to New Orleans, up to Vicksburg and on to Hot Springs, Arkansas. They wish everyone a “wonderful Airstream Spring”. And we wish them following breezes. A tip of the tam o’shanter to JoAnn Kolley for her excellent, thoughtful letters to the editor of the Blue Beret in recent editions. For those of you who missed it, check out the March edition. She certainly expostulates eloquently on the full meaning of “Fun, Fellowship, and Adventure”, a mission statement we can all agree with. Perhaps the most important item in this jam packed, hard hitting newsletter is the announcement welcoming our new member, Pamela Kuhn, a native of St. Louis and daughter of our good friend and former President (1991) Emil Kuhn. In case you did not get it, her email is [email protected]. She assumes, I believe, her father’s WBCCI number, 8617. I know all of us look forward to greeting Pam at her earliest convenience and making her welcome in our midst. Her father, “Aim” and travelling companion, Agnes, were great friends of Jane and myself and are fondly missed by all of us. Welcome Pam! Your President hard at work planning activities for GSL in 2012. 2 And just to prove that it is not all work and no play with Ed, the following report from the desert: 3 Not to be outdone, the Southeast Chapter of the GSL group met at the Florida State Rally in Sarasota. Frosty is no longer the sole Blue Ribbon Winner in the club, as Geo nosed out the competition for Best in Show. (There is no talking to Julie Hunt: I am told she is eyeing a trip to the Westchester County Kennel show next year.) The Bublises, Wagners, Ziles, and Hunts (see photo below) all got together for fun and fellowship in Sarasota. This tanned crowd will hopefully rejoin us in April when we all next meet at the Region 8 Route 66 Rally in Springfield where, among other things, we must vote for our International Officers. On a sadder note I’m sure most of you have learned of the death of Bill Braden last month. Though Jane & I knew Bill only a few years, we always found him a knowledgeable and congenial travelling companion. Bill was very active in The Boy Scouts throughout his life and President of this club in 1994. On February 20th a large group gathered to say farewell. He was honored by the Boy Scouts and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Fourteen fellow Airstreamers attended: Bob & Helen Howard, Kaye & Pat Stabler, Glen Waters, Suzy Shepard, Ray & JoAnn Kolley, Brian Hogue & Jane Jamison, Arson & Amy White, Charley & Carolyn Bell. RIP. I know all of us hold Mary Ann and her family close in our hearts and in our prayers. Bill at International 2011 4 5 Registration form for Hannibal Rally is below 6 7 8 9 10
