comments of the 2016 summer’s informal activities
June Activity: •We had a Buccaneer Dinner filling 2 tables at "PI on Broadway" in Ocala on June 2nd.
•On Saturday, June 5th Some OSC kayakers met at 9 AM on the Rainbow River and kayaked and paddleboarded up to the spring and back ending at “Swampy’s" for refreshments. Great day on the water!. •Lake Eustis on June 18th held their 16th Annual Summer Sailstice celebration of sailing and invited
OSC and other sailing clubs to join in with them. Did any OSC sailors go?
July Activity: • No Activity reported.
August Activity:
•August 17th, OSC received new members: Bill & Gwen Bates of Ocala They have a Catalina 18’.
•August 18th, an Evite for a meeting was planned for "World of Beer" in Spanish Springs, but was not
attended well as most members were still on vacation. John Cicio and family were there enjoying the
brew of the world..
•John Cicio did, however, meet a young sailor who is currently a realtor in the Villages while at the World
of Beer meeting who expressed interest in joining our club. Nathan Burlingame is his name and he is
formerly from Portland area. John plans to follow up with him. In closing:,
•The Fall Rum Races are planned to start it’s first race from Sims’ Beach 11:30 AM on Sept 10th.
This will be after the Buccaneer Night event and before our Pot-Luck Dinner so please be on the lookout for the Evite that will precede it and let’s prepare to have a good kick-off of sailing for the season! Those
interested in jumping aboard as crew are welcome too.

Start September 10, 2016 Fall Series 3 dates: 9/10, 11/5 & 11/26 / 2016
The BIG Bottle of Rum
Certificates for Places: First, Second & Third
At 11:30 Have your sailboat at the beach
area set up for racing so we can have an
informal skippers meeting.
Sailboats can be rigged and set up at
Hope Ramp and easily sailed or paddled
around the one lot distance west to Sims’
Beach. Some sailboats will set up and
launch at Sims’ beach on location.
By 12 Noon We like to have assessed
the conditions and set a window of
time for the first race and be off racing.
Once we have the first race with all
participants over the finish line, while
still on the water, we set off for the 2nd
race using a window of time for
starting. The goal is to get in 3 races

Sunset Harbor Challenge
Around the Lake Regatta
is coming up Saturday October 22, 2016
This is a fun one-day regatta where we invite other sailing clubs to join us in
a race around Lake Weir starting and ending at Sunset Harbor.
The Rum Race of September 10th is a great way to tune up your boat and
work on getting crew together for this regatta especially and the season.
