Keynote Speaker
Saturday, October 19th
2pm to 3pm
Essington and Jefferson Ballrooms
Tracy DeGraaf
Life Happens…Laugh Anyway
South suburban native and author of Laugh Anyway Mom, Tracy DeGraaf, brings
humor to the everyday trials and tribulations of life as a woman and mother of FIVE
BOYS! The newcomer is quickly making a name for herself. Lake Michigan Shore
Magazine called her incredibly funny and named her one of "six Midwestern
comedians who crack us up." Legendary comedian, actress, and fellow mother of
five children, Phyllis Diller, said this about DeGraaf's book, "A funny book that will
make you laugh, cry, and take life as it should be - with a grain of salt!"
Bring home the laughter by purchasing Tracy’s book Laugh Anyway Mom and in
moments of overwhelming frustration you can break the tension with some humor.
Books are $15.00 and with each book purchase Tracy will donate $5.00 to the IOMOTC Convention. So,
you’ll be helping IOMOTC and yourself. It is a win-win for everyone.
Saturday Night Event
Harrah’s Casino
Saturday, October 19th
6:30pm to 11:30pm
Shake, Rattle and Roll
Bring your poker face and your good luck charm
Get ready for a night of memories
Harrah’s Casino has a lot to offer. Besides the opportunity to strike it rich, you can choose
from three restaurants. Paula Deen’s, The Reserve, and Ace’s Diner. Stage 151 will be sure to be
showcasing a band and there is a plethora of people watching to enjoy on a Saturday night.
Bus transportation will be provided. Plan to bring along cash for food, drinks or gaming.
2013 may turn out to be your lucky year.
We understand that the Casino may not be appealing to everyone. Joliet area has other opportunities

out with your friends. We will have a list of these opportunities in your registration packet.

Families” will address such issues as why you need a

needs, living wills, power of attorney forms, use of joint
tenancy and living trusts, estate and gift tax planning,
questions concerning elderly parents and planning for
families with special needs members and/or family

Suzanne Cahalan, J.D. received her law degree

practicing in Wheaton, Il since 1985. Her practice
consists of estate planning projects for families,
couples
and
individuals,

Abundant Life-Nurture Yourself
Kim Rhodes, Clinical Director, MS, LCPC
Merchants Row Room
We strive for an abundant life and want it all. We
often end up having too much on our plates, especially as
mothers of multiples. We cannot have an abundant life if we
are running on empty. We need the proper fuel in order to
be productive and enjoy our abundant life. Nurturing
yourself is an act that will reap benefits refueling your spirit
and energy in order to create a better relationship with
yourself and ultimately influence the world around you.
Self-care is an important skill to have when increased stress
is present. Mothering can be difficult and be a source of
stress that goes unnoticed and unshared by busy mothers,
especially those who are parent of multiples. Kim Rhodes
will stress the importance of making self-care a priority and
teach you to implement it BEFORE stress occurs. Kim will
present how to implement self-care on a daily basis in order
to meet the demands when the stress increases to high
levels.

In today’s world, many people choose to
communicate via the Internet and cell phones.
Youth especially have embraced new technologies
such as text messaging, social networking sites,
and digital cameras to share information and
connect with friends. However, without proper
guidance, these types of communication
technologies can be dangerous to a child’s physical
and psychological well-being.
To help inform parents and educators
about our children’s online activities and to assist in
their efforts to educate our youth regarding
responsible and safe online behavior, the Attorney
General’s Office provides many resources. Eric
Salcedo, from the Illinois Attorney General’s office,
is here to inform us how to protect ourselves and
our loved ones when using the internet.
Sibling Rivalry
Kari Wittman-Lata
360 Youth Services
Merchants Row Room
Kari Wittman-Lata is a Clinical Director
at 360 Youth Services.
She oversees a
counseling program offering innovative, quality
therapy to youth and their families.
Her
presentation will cover the major pitfalls that
parents fall into when trying to resolve sibling
rivalry if they aren’t armed with appropriate
information and guidelines. Her intention is to
help each of you as parents understand the
nature of sibling rivalry more deeply, and
provide practical tips on how to reduce the
fighting and increase the connection in any
family. She will cover the value of language/
choice of words in defining each child’s role in
the family, learning when and when not to
intervene and some “outside the box”
techniques for encouraging peace when all else
fails.
