J M Kelly (Project Builders) Pty Ltd is the flagship Company of the J M Kelly Group of Companies; the group
encompasses 10 diversified business units, with Geoff Murphy as Managing Director.
JM Kelly Project Builders is one of Queensland’s leading building construction companies, with offices in
Rockhampton, Mackay and Brisbane. JMK has an enviable reputation for integrity as a professional and
reliable service provider to industry, government, commercial and private enterprise.

Skills Development
In Collaboration with Construction Skills Queensland J M Kelly have initiated an Apprentice Coordinator
Program to address our ongoing commitment to skills development and the positive impact such a program
has on the community at large.
Tim O’Connor, Apprentice Coordinator
Tim has a trade-based background, completing his carpentry apprenticeship three decades ago.
He delivers all in-house training for JMK carpentry apprentices. Tim overseas / coordinates
training for all trade apprentices, and has Bachelor of Building Design in Engineering (CQU).
Many of the contracts that J M Kelly undertake employ back to back
requirements for their subcontractors to meet the same high level of
training and apprentice involvement as they do themselves. This
approach leads to an anticipated apprentice and trainee workforce of
around 10% across their projects, with around 80 apprentices
employed locally by the group.
J M Kelly continue to meet and exceed Queensland Government
Apprentice Training Requirements, averaging 30% above the
stipulated training compliance requirements over the last two years.
Recognising that today’s workers are tomorrow’s leaders, J M Kelly
recently sponsored 35 employees to undertake Diploma of Project
Management studies in partnership with a Registered Training
Organisation. Participants were a diverse group including apprentices,
trades, estimators, project managers and contract administrators.
JMK continue to promote training and self-improvement within their
group culture.
The group continues to be a critical stakeholder in the Queensland
Training System. Their policy provides equal opportunity for all
employees including but by no means limited to young people, casual
workers, people with disabilities, women, people in remote
communities and people from ethnic and linguistically diverse
communities.

commencing operations in Rockhampton in 1961.
Geoff has, over the subsequent 50 years, grown
the business into one of the largest private
companies and one of the largest construction
companies in Queensland.

With three decades of industry
experience, John is responsible for
day-to-day running of the division and will assume
ultimate responsibility for each project. He brings
considerable expertise and experience to the
team having worked across Education, Health,
Retail, Tourism and Government sectors.

Construction Manager
Mick is a motivated and focused
professional who brings a wealth of
practical knowledge and strong commercial and
managerial expertise to the project leadership
group. Mick places particular emphasis on
understanding client’s needs and ensuring that
project expectations are communicated to all

SEQ Divisional Manager
Rob joined JMK in 1998 and has
worked as Site Manager on various
projects across numerous industry sectors. Now
part of our Senior Management Team in Brisbane,
Rob will drive your project to achieve the required
outcome.

Estimating Manager
Ralph has been in the Safety Industry
for two decades, holding positions as
the Safety Manager at the Lakes
Creek Meat Works (Rockhampton),
before moving to Queensland’s Chamber of
Commerce and Industry as the Regional Safety
Manager and training coordinator.
Simon Watkins, Manager Human
Resources and Training
Simon has an enviable track record in
a range of management disciplines;
he has a strong education background, having
served both public and private sector in roles
ranging from teacher to principal and Director of
Education. He has construction industry
experience as CQ TAFE Engineering and
Construction Director of Studies.

Tim Griffin, IT Manager
Tony has a trade based background
and has been with JMK since 1991.
Tony is responsible for cost planning and design
management of various projects; he has extensive
experience with project design, quantity assessing
and project estimating. Tony leads our team of
estimators.
Tim leads the IT team in delivering
robust and reliable IT services to the J
M Kelly Group of Companies. His
wide-ranging experience, keen
troubleshooting skills and open approach result in
a stable IT environment with minimal downtime
and an enviable site performance history.

Strategic Focus
J M Kelly Project Builders are continually looking to improve their systems and seeking new ways in which
they can add efficiencies and value to the project lifecycle.
Two current areas of specific focus are:
Environmentally Sustainable Design and Construction
J M Kelly Project Builders actively seek to integrate Environmental Design Principals into all of their
projects. Whether or not an individual project is to be delivered under an Environmentally Sustainable
Design rating system, JMK will aim to incorporate local materials and manpower on all of their projects
leading to a reduced carbon footprint as well as making use of nil or low cost impact systems such as low
volatile organic compound materials, low energy lighting, energy efficient ventilation and cooling and water
efficient fittings and systems.
J M Kelly maintain a fully developed Environmental Management Plan and have an experienced Green
Building Council of Australia Approved Professional within their management team. Development of an
International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) accredited Environmental Management System and an
increased involvement in Environmentally Designed projects are amongst J M Kelly’s principal strategic
goals.
Building Information Modelling
J M Kelly Project Builders are excited

Information Modelling (BIM) software
and are focused on developing
industry and client relations with a
view to enhance and improve current
practices and enable early project
participation. Participation that will
lead to effective provision of specialist
advice including time and cost
estimation allowing the effective

modelling.
Reduced tender costs and overheads
arising from long term industry
partnerships will allow J M Kelly to retain and improve their competitive edge whilst providing clients with
cost effective development solutions and early budget, time and build-ability advice and risk mitigation.
In 2006 J M Kelly invested in CostX software which is a powerful estimating tool with wide ranging
capabilities, not least of which is integration with Revit 3D Architectural Modelling.
