The episode rated as the series’ highest and most-watched programme, with 754,000 total viewers; this marks a 48% increase on the show’s season one average. Steve ‘Stone Cold’ Austin, a former prowrestler, presents as members of the public take on elite athletes. The contestants’ stamina, strength and wit are all tested. APPALACHIAN OUTLAWS – History – Season two History premieres the second season of Appalachian Outlaws on Monday 2 February 2015 at 10pm. At $600 a pound, ginseng is an extremely valuable product. In Appalachia, supply cannot keep up with demand, causing fierce competition between the growers and diggers of the plant. The second season sees landowner Mike Ross struggling to recover after poachers rob him of ginseng worth thousands of dollars. Produced by Original Productions. CANADA Reality Competition THE EXTRA MILE – Big Coat Productions Big Coat Productions has optioned the format rights for The Extra Mile from Studio Glam. The series originally aired on Channel 10 in Israel. Ten divorced couples live together in a remote location, where they take part in challenging physical tasks. The challenges test their teamwork, agility and physicality. Every week each couple votes for who they would like to eliminate from the competition. The couples are competing to win a 1 million shekel prize, which is placed into a trust fund for their children. 11 Dating FIRST DATES CANADA – Slice A local version of UK format First Dates is in development for Slice. A range of singletons from different backgrounds are filmed as they experience their first date with a potential partner whom they met online. Distributed by Cineflix Rights. Docuseries TORNADO HUNTERS – CMT Originally a web series for CMT, a full series of Tornado Hunters has been ordered. The fivepart web series launched on 18 August 2014 and a pilot was shown on 26 October 2014. The full 10 x 30’ series follows the dangerous adventures of extreme weather chasers Greg Johnson, Ricky Forbes and Chris Chittick as they make their way across North America tackling the most severe tornadoes. Production on the series commences in March 2015. Produced by Saloon Media in association with CMT. 12 ONLINE Battle of the Exes web series gives losers second chance The latest season of MTV’s The Challenge: Battle of the Exes II is accompanied by a web series which offers losing contestants a second chance. Titled Battle of the Ex-iled, it sees the most recent losers competing for a chance to get back onto the game show. A new episode is uploaded after every edition of the main show, which airs at 11pm ET every Tuesday on MTV. Gladys Knight to perform on web series The debut episode of web series Skyville Live saw the ‘Empress of Soul’ Gladys Knight perform in front of a live studio audience. She was joined by fellow songstresses Martina McBride and Estelle. Skyville is an artist development and publishing company located in Nashville, Tennessee, offering intimate live performances to attendees, whilst also livestreaming the gigs on their site. Epic How To YouTube and Twitter star Joe Bereta has wasted little time in making his mark at Defy Media, where he is now Creative Director. Bereta hosts Epic How To, a new web series on Defy's AWEme channel. Rather than simple everyday “life hacks”, each episode will instead offer advice on how to achieve remarkable feats. For example, the first episode is a guide to winning an Oscar. Bereta was previously co-host of entertainment news show SourceFed. ANXT Those crippled by phobias and anxiety can now turn to YouTube for help, thanks to new web series ANXT. The show, from production outfit Astronauts Wanted, is hosted by YouTuber star Mikey Bolts and Vine star Gabbie Hanna. The twice-weekly show will address and confront common fears, as supplied by fans of the hosts, with some viewers being invited to take part. ANXT launches on 20 January 2015, with episodes uploaded on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Dance series The Edge debuts on Samsung Milk Video Dance-based reality show The Edge will debut episodes from its second season on Samsung's Milk Video app, it has been announced. The show, from Madonna-backed multichannel network DanceOn, goes behind the scenes with stars such as Meghan Trainor and Ne-Yo. Milk Video is a personalised video discovery app, exclusive to Android handsets. The first episode looks at Sia's controversial Elastic Heart video, and future episodes will receive a wider digital release two weeks after launching on Milk Video. 13 Uproxx debuts first original series, Luminaries Viral media web portal Uproxx has launched its first original web series. Luminaries, hosted on the Tech section of the site, profiles young inventors and scientists who are working on bold new ideas for the betterment of mankind. The first episode features 19-year-old Easton LaChappelle who has developed affordable yet advanced robotic limbs. The HP-sponsored show is the first of three series developed by Woven Digital as part of an $18m investment in original content.
