Tournament History
Past Champions
k2015 – Ian Woosnam
Despite an aching back, former European Ryder Cup
Captain Ian Woosnam survived 54 holes plus an extra
to win his first Champions Tour title at the 2015 Insperity
Invitational, defeating Tom Lehman and Kenny Perry on the
first hole of a playoff.
Woosnam’s 30-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole did
the trick and marked the third time in Insperity Invitational
history a playoff was needed to decide a champion.
k2009 – John Cook
Took the lead for the first time on the par-3 14th hole. Was
neck and neck down the stretch with Jay Haas who was
bidding for his third win in a row. Cook seized the lead for
good with a 12-foot birdie putt at the 17th hole and was able
to hang on and claim victory by 2 strokes over Jay Haas
and Bob Tway.
k2014 – Bernhard Langer
k2008 – Bernhard Langer
Successfully defended his title when he prevailed by 2
strokes over Lonnie Nielsen. Made birdies on Nos. 11, 13
and 14 to take the lead, and the former Masters champion
never looked back.
k2013 – Esteban Toledo
Toledo, in his ninth start on the Champions Tour, became
the first player from Mexico to win an event on the
Champions Tour after starting the final round seven strokes
back of Gene Sauers. His final-round 67 earned the
50-year-old a spot in a playoff to decide the champion.
k2007 – Bernhard Langer
In only his fourth start on the Champions Tour, Langer
matched the circuit’s all-time scoring record and won his
first Champions Tour event. He allowed only two players
to finish within 10 strokes of him. He birdied five of his final
seven holes, including the last three to capture his first title.
k 2012 – Fred Funk
Twenty years ago, Fred Funk earned his first PGA TOUR
victory in Houston. On the same course in May, he collected
a comeback victory of sorts on the Champions Tour.
k2006 – Jay Haas
Set a tournament and course record by shooting a 63 in
the second round, giving him the outright lead going into
the final round. He had a five-shot lead when play was
suspended and eventually canceled due to heavy rain. By
winning, he joined Bob Charles as just the second player to
win a PGA TOUR and Champions Tour event in Houston.
Langer became the first three-time winner of the Insperity
Invitational and, for the first time in his Champions Tour
career, he won the same tournament three times. His
victory in the spring also helped Langer become the 10th
player in Champions Tour history to accumulate 20 wins or
more in his career and moved him into the top-10 on the
all-time Champions Tour victory list.
Funk birdied four of the final five holes, including a
2-foot birdie putt on the 54th hole to finish 14-under-par
202. Funk secured what turned out to be the winning
moment when he hit a 5-iron on the 18th hole for the 2-foot
birdie opportunity.
k2011 – Brad Faxon
On the strength of a birdie late Saturday on the 17th hole
and a few miscues from other competitors, Brad Faxon put
himself in position to win the Insperity Championship. On
Sunday, a deluge of rain did the rest of the work.
k2005 – Mark McNulty
Used a pair of eagles in the final round to win. Made a
clutch birdie from 45-feet at the par-5 18th hole to win by
one stroke over Gil Morgan.
k2010 – Fred Couples
Shook off a double-bogey on the front nine (No. 8) by
playing the back nine in 7-under-par 29 to steamroll past a
faltering Corey Pavin for the 2010 title. Trailing Pavin by two
strokes after the 10th hole, Couples played the final eight in
7-under.
k2004 – Larry Nelson
Won the inaugural Administaff Small Business Classic.
Came from seven strokes back and made a birdie putt on
the first playoff hole to beat Hale Irwin.
