We will present our first Tree of Life awards honoring outstanding individuals in our Jewish community and the general community. This year’s honorees are Carl Citron and Representative Jeffrey Roy. Page 2 TEC Times Interfaith Council Thanksgiving Food Drive Collection Now through Sunday, November 1 Temple Etz Chaim's Academy and Confirmation class is currently collecting 200 boxes of brownie mix. Your donation will help the Interfaith Council's Thanksgiving Day Food Drive. Collection boxes will be located at both the Temple Building and Religious School lobbies. Please help support the teens in our Temple community, by providing one component of a full Thanksgiving meal for those in need. Well, now we have a way for you to do that. We are going to do a TEC Community Cookbook. We are in the planning phases. If you have any interest in helping, let me know. We will have a blast. November 2015 / 5776 Back to School Sunday, November 8 9:00 - 9:30 and 11:00 -11:30 at Medway High School 88 Summer St., Medway Parents, mark your calendars for Sunday, November 8 when you are invited to meet your children's religious school teachers and learn about the curriculum for their grade. 9:00 - 9:30 am: Pre K - 3rd grade parents 11:00 - 11:30 am: 4th - 7th grade parents Meet your child’s Sunday, Religious School teachers Learn about their curriculum Find out about ways to enhance your child’s learning Review requirements for their classes Meet other parents in your child’s classes Sisterhood Card Making Night Monday, November 9 7:00 pm at Temple Etz Chaim Sisterhood Members: $18.00 Non-Sisterhood Members: $23.00 Join us as Nancy Deutsch teaches us the fine art of card making. Some of the techniques we will use include cutting fine papers, decorative ribbon, satin ribbon, die cuts, rubber stamping, embossing, and lining envelopes with fine paper. We will be designing 4 designs: 2 Hanukkah and 2 Season’s Greetings/New Year’s. We will make 8 cards total; 2 of each. Please RSVP to Jill Simms by November 2nd. Community Shabbat Dinner Friday, November 20 6:00 - 7:30 pm at Temple Building All are invited to join us to welcome our newest members and gather as a community for a delicious Shabbat dinner. Then, stay to welcome the joy and relaxation of Shabbat at 7:30. During the service Rabbi Alpert will give a blessing for our newest families and our congregation. Please, RSVP to Connie Shulman for the dinner and signup to bring a food item. If you are coming to the service, please, bring a plated dessert. Page 3 TEC Times Providence Bruin’s Game Sunday, November 22 3:05 pm RSVP Deadline: November 6 Cost: $20.00 pp This is a family event that everyone is welcome to attend. Tickets are $20 per person and free P-Bruins hats, popcorn and drink for all kids in the group. If you RSVP by November 6th, we should be able to get you your tickets before the event. If you are undecided, last minute registration is not a problem (but no later than 11/21), just let us know and we can get you tickets with the group. Please make checks out to Providence Bruins and you can either send the checks to Stewart Lipson or Robert Seide. Beer Tasting & Menorah Assembly Monday, November 23 7:00 - 8:30 pm at Temple Building Believe it or not, Hanukkah is right around corner, which means we need to assemble the Temple’s menorah. This year, we are planning to do this on Monday, November 23rd at 7pm and of course have our annual Beer night after the assembly. We will be sending out an Evite to remind everyone and to get RSVP’s as we need to know how much beer to buy. Cost will be about $5 each (to pay for the beer). If you have a favorite beer, feel free to bring it! Just let me know so we don’t purchase the same beer. If you make your own beer, feel free to bring it as well. Since it is a work night, we’ll probably leave around 9pm (the latest- just in time to watch the Pats). Any questions, please contact Stewart Lipson. Hanukkiah Contest & Party Sunday, December 13 11:00 am - 12:30 pm at Medway High School 88 Summer St., Medway Create a child or family Hanukkiah to submit to the contest. Many categories to recognize the achievements of the students. Latke treats and Hanukkah games for all. November 2015 / 5776 Franklin Interfaith Thanksgiving Service Sunday, November 22 7:00 pm at the Franklin Federated Church 171 Main Street, Franklin Everyone is invited to join in this service of Thanksgiving. It will include musical selections by the Interfaith Choir including our own TEC choir members and individuals from the Council’s houses of worship together with reflections, readings and prayers to help us focus on this season of Thanksgiving. Five Guys Community Night Wednesday, December 2 5:00 pm - 10:00 pm at Franklin Village Plaza Join us for our monthly dinner night out. Five Guys will donate 15% of the total sales that evening. Each year, Sisterhood joins other organizations and donates our time to gift wrap at Barnes and Noble, Bellingham. We have scheduled ourselves for this holiday season and NEED YOUR HELP! All proceeds go to our philanthropies, including our own Temple Etz Chaim. It’s a ton of fun and a mitzvah, too! Grab a friend or teenage daughter and get yourself on the schedule! This gives us an opportunity to come together as a community to celebrate Shabbat. They will feature friendly singing, age-appropriate readings, and birthday blessings. During some of these Family Shabbat Services, specific classes will participate in leading some of the prayers. We hope that your family will join us for all of these Family Shabbat Services, as they promise to be wonderful celebrations in our community. These visitors connect with socially isolated older adults in our community. An active 69 year old retired computer programmer. Our client spent his working life at major tech companies like Digital, HP, and Compaq. He lives here in Metrowest and is legally blind.
