Penguin’s feathers are very shiny, waterproof, and dense to keep
them dry and warm.
Penguins “molt” every year. This means they lose their feathers
and grow new ones.
When molting, penguins are not protected from the elements and
cold since they cannot travel or go in the water.

language!

Tigers live in grassy or swampy areas in deciduous or tropical
forests.

Kangaroos hop on their back legs and use their tail for balance.

A Lion’s roar can be heard up to 5 miles away. It warns intruders,
and reunites members of the pride.
A male kangaroo is called a buck or boomer.

Lions spend about 20 hours a day doing absolutlely nothing.

A seal can dive up to 1,000 feet into the ocean to find food!
Can you clap your hands together like a seal?
Seals use their whiskers to hunt for food to eat.
Seals eat fish, squid, octopus, and shellfish.
Males are called peacocks. Females are called peahens. Young
birds are called peachicks.
The average lifespan is 20 years.
Peacocks eat insects, plants, and small creatures.
Seals can swim in the water at speeds up to 25 miles per hour.

There are 5 species of rhino.
They have lived on earth over 50 million years!
Their horns are made up of the same stuff found in our hair and
fingernails: keratin and gelatin. If cut, their horns will grow back in
a couple of years.
Rhinos weigh about 1.5 to 2 tons.

A giraffe’s tongue is purple-black and can stretch almost 20
inches!
Their spots are unique markings-like human fingerprints.
Giraffes can run up to 20 miles per hour.
They eat up to 75 pounds of food in one day.
Giraffes are the tallest animals in the world!

Flamingos get their pink and orange color from the algae and
crustaceans they eat.
Orangutans are an endangered species. They are
found in the countries of Borneo and Sumatra.
Flamingos can grow up to 5 feet tall and weigh 8.5 pounds.
They have been observed using tools in the wild.
A Flamingo’s eye is LARGER than its brain!
Orangutans live in trees. It is rare for adults to even touch the
ground.
Standing on one leg really is their most comfortable position…Can
you stand on one leg?

Camels have 3 eyelids. This helps keep the desert sand out!
A bear has 42 teeth.
Camels move both legs on one side of their body and then on the
other side.

Bison are the largest living animal in North America.
They can live up to 30 years.
Crocks eat rocks to help digestion and add weight so they can
stay underwater.
Male bison are called bulls and female bison are called cows.
Crocodiles have changed very little since prehistoric times.
They shed their teeth and will go through 3000 teeth in their
lifetime!
Bison can eat 60 pounds of plant and grasses in ONE day!
