Respect for the Individual
The Three Joys
Initiative
Initiative means not to be bound by preconceived ideas,
but to think creatively and act on your own initiative and
judgment, while understanding that you must take
responsibility for the results of those actions.
The Joy of Buying

products and services that exceed the needs and
expectations of each customer.

differences in one another andtreat each other fairly.
Our company is committed to this principle and to creating
equal opportunities for each individual.
An individual’s race, gender, age, religion, national origin,
educational background, social or economic status has
no bearing on the individual’s opportunities.
Trust
The relationship among associates at Honda should be

deficient, accepting help where we are deficient,
sharing our knowledge, and making a sincere effort to
fulfill our responsibilities.
The Joy of Selling

Delivering more dreams and
joys to our customers by
leveraging Honda strengths
Message from president & CEO
Since the company’s foundation, Honda has consistently continued taking on
challenges a step ahead of the times, based on our Fundamental Belief of “The
Three Joys” comprising “The Joy of Buying,” “The Joy of Selling,” and “The Joy of
Creating.”
We are currently working on two themes – “further advancement of the six-region
global operation structure” and “development of challenging products unique to
Honda” – while envisioning the creation of a new Honda which goes beyond the
pursuit of these themes.
I believe that the first thing we need to do toward this end is to make sure that
each and every person involved with Honda shares the same passion to please
our customers, comes together as “Team Honda” and takes on challenges to
achieve our goals while respecting each other’s individual qualities.
Now that Honda has become a company offering an even wider variety of
products, including the HondaJet in addition to motorcycles, automobiles and
power products, we are determined to make the best use of this strength and
continue taking on challenges as “Team Honda” so that we can deliver more
dreams and joys to our customers.

the joy and freedom
of mobility
After World War II, the use of auxiliary engines mounted on bicycles spread quickly in Japan,
making it easier for people to move around and transport goods. This was the starting point
of manufacturing for Honda. Ever since, Honda has given shape to the wide-ranging joys and
fun of riding on two wheels, through such products as the Super Cub, which went on to
become the standard for commuter models, and the Dream CB750 Four, which triggered an
unprecedented sports bike boom across Japan. Making motorcycles with the basic goal of
bringing joy and satisfaction to people serves as the starting point of Honda.

S500(1963)
“We will redraw the map of automobile manufacturing.” With this commitment, Honda
launched the T360 mini truck in 1963 to become the last major domestic automaker to enter
the Japanese automotive market. A second model, the S500 sports car, then followed in the
T360’s footsteps to form a pair of vehicles equipped with Japan’s first DOHC automobile
engine and to make Honda’s debut with a full complement of our distinctive innovation. Then
in 1964, Honda took up the challenge of Formula One with the intent of honing Honda’s
leading edge technology at the pinnacle of racing. Ever since, Honda’s automobile business
has been filled with a challenging spirit and focus on creating new value in every area
including technology development and manufacturing.

The Honda Walking Assist Device supports the walking of people with weakened leg
muscles. Since the start of this research work in 1999, Honda has been making
progress in the development of the device in collaboration with medical institutions and
rehabilitation centers all over Japan. Honda’s original thin motor and control system
enabled the device’s compact size which induces and guides walking motions according to the user’s walking patterns and the training mode. Lease sales of the Honda
Walking Assist Device to businesses and institutional customers began in 2015.

With dreams on its wings,
HondaJet to fly the skies of the world
Taking personal mobility to the skies: This dream, cherished since Honda’s founding, has at last
become a reality. “If Honda is going to do it, it will be an aircraft that never existed before.” With this
passion, Honda established original technologies and created the HondaJet, a light business jet
which changed the conventional wisdom of the aviation industry. Equipped with the lightweight and
high-thrust HF120 turbofan engine that was jointly developed with the General Electric Company of
the U.S., the HondaJet is about to usher in a new era by soaring through skies around the world,
with the dreams of many people on its wings.
Cutting-edge small business jet created
with original technologies
The many originally developed technologies adopted for the HondaJet include the unique nose shape, the over-the-wing engine mount
configuration, and the original, natural laminar flow wings. Achieving top-in-class level maximum speed, maximum operating altitude,
climb performance, fuel efficiency, and cabin size, the HondaJet
surprised a lot of people around the world as a totally new personal
mobility product in the sky. Mass production of the HondaJet is now
underway in a production facility in the U.S.

Striving to achieve harmony with society
Through mobility, new encounters and cultures are created and people’s lives become more enjoyable. Automobiles and motorcycles are vehicles that help carry people’s happiness to other places,
but Honda believes that such happiness should not come at the expense of the environment or by
hurting someone. In its wish to ensure a sustainable society in which everyone can genuinely feel
at ease and freely move wherever they wish, Honda maintains an active set of environmental and
safety initiatives.
Through this global environmental symbol, Honda
wants to pass on “the joy and freedom of mobility” to
the next generation (for our children). Therefore, the
company wants to realize “a sustainable society where
people can enjoy life” (blue skies). This slogan
continues to represent Honda’s passion toward this
environmental commitment which has not wavered and
will remain resolute in the future.
Honda is dedicated to realizing a “zero collision society,”
where not only drivers and motorcycle riders but also
pedestrians and everyone else who shares the road can
always remain safe.
Through its wide-ranging safety initiatives including the
development of cutting-edge safety technologies and the
promotion of driver and rider safety education, Honda is
committed to taking action to enhance safety of the
mobility society as a whole.
The Honda Environment Statement (announced in 1992)
As a responsible member of society whose task lies in the preservation of the global environment, the company will make every
effort to contribute to human health and the preservation of the global environment in each phase of its corporate activity.
Only in this way will we be able to count on a successful future not only for our company, but for the entire world.

Developing safety in talent, facilities, and software
Honda is striving to create new values for the next generation by connecting our technologies and products
with wide-ranging enterprises and municipalities. Toward this end, Honda is currently conducting various
demonstration test projects inside and outside Japan using its electric vehicles (EV); the MC-β micro-sized
short-distance EV; fuel cell vehicles (FCV); the technologies for hydrogen stations; an external power output
device, etc. Honda will continue its future-oriented activities toward the goal of minimizing its environmental
footprint while expanding the joy of mobility.
Traffic safety education (Thailand)
Starting safe riding/driving promotion activities in 1964, Honda then established the Driving Safety Promotion Center in 1970. Based on the concept of
“passing on safety education from person to person” and “practical, hands-on
education,” Honda has been actively evolving its safety-related activities.
In close ties with local communities and governments, Honda has offered a
wide variety of events and opportunities for education and training, including
for training of local instructors, and for developing education programs and
teaching machines.Outside of Japan as well, Honda is conducting various
activities rooted in each country and region.

The Honda SENSING TM and AcuraWatch TM systems are advanced driver-assistive
systems that help ensure safe and comfortable driving and support the driver's
efforts to avoid collisions by recognizing the current conditions surrounding the
vehicle. Honda has been installing this system on a wide variety of models.
The Jazz (called the Fit in Japan and North America) sold in various European
countries won the prestigious Best in Class award in the supermini category of
Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Program). This shows that Honda’s
active and passive safety performance in preparation for emergencies has won
high acclaim around the world.
In October 2015, Honda started to examine the joint development with other
motorcycle manufacturers of a unit to be installed on a motorcycle so that it will
be connected to the Cooperative-Intelligent Transportation Systems (C-ITS) for
powered two-wheelers (PTWs). Through such measures, we continue
redoubling efforts to contribute to the realization of a zero collision society for
everyone who shares the road.

Children’s Idea Contest
The Children’s Idea Contest was started in 2002, arising from the vision of enabling children
to experience how important and how fun it is to take on challenges in pursuit of their own
dreams. This initiative for supporting the growth of children has since spread overseas,
with the event held in Thailand and Vietnam. In March 2016, an event was held with children
who won prizes in Thailand and Japan respectively getting together to share their work and
dreams, and to know each other better through hands-on experience programs.

This symbol captures the Honda philanthropy approach of striving to
create communities that can realize dreams by working together.
Nature Wagon is a touring environmental learning program that brings a van filled with
natural objects and materials from the ocean and mountains to elementary schools,
community centers and similar facilities. Honda retirees give lectures on nature and
the importance of conserving the environment, lead children in making crafts with
wood and stones, and help them gain new awareness of nature and the environment.
A great number of children have taken part in this program since its start in 2000.

The activity in Japan
The activity in Brazil
Since 2006, Honda has conducted the Honda Beach Clean-up Project using a Beach Cleaner originally developed by Honda, in hopes that future generations of beachgoers will
be able to enjoy the pleasures of walking barefoot in the sand. Project participants have cleaned more than 100 beaches throughout Japan, and have carried out activities in areas
hit by the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011 to assist in the restoration efforts. March 2015 saw project participants conduct clean-up activities on the Futuro Beach in Brazil.

Tree Planting Day activity in Vietnam
Honda started a tree-planting project in Vietnam in 2013. Along with reforestation,
another purpose of the project has been to create employment and a viable industry in mountainous areas, where timber is an important source of income, and to
help reduce poverty. In cooperation with local residents, Honda will continuously
manage and protect the forests, with a plan to start lumber production in 2020.

The challenge goes on — for progress
in technology and for people
“We will be the world leader in technology.” In 1959, a little known manufacturer participated for the first
time in the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy (TT) Races, at the time the world’s top motorcycle competition. That
manufacturer, Honda of course, captured its first World Grand Prix victory in 1961. Honda next set its sights
on car racing, capturing its first victory in 1965 at the pinnacle event of Formula One World Championship
racing with only 11 races under its belt. Since then, Honda has pursued numerous racing challenges, with
the intent of developing truly innovative technologies and cultivating excellent engineers through the
process. In August 2015, Honda achieved its 700th victory at the FIM Road Racing World Championship
Grand Prix and, looking ahead, Honda continues taking on new challenges to move toward our dreams.
Applying technologies refined at the pinnacle of
racing to automobiles and motorcycles for everyone
Formula One World Championship Series
“Unless we compete in races, we can’t improve our motorcycles and automobiles.” With the goal
of applying technologies refined through the ultimate challenge of racing to create better
mass-production vehicles, Honda has competed in a great variety of races around the world. The
wide-ranging race categories in which Honda has been active include the FIM Road Racing,
Motocross and Trial World Championships for motorcycles, and the FIA Formula One World
Championship, WTCC (FIA World Touring Car Championship) and the Super GT for automobiles.
Giving everyone a chance to create, participate and enjoy
The Honda Eco Mileage Challenge was started in 1981 as a competition in
which the participants vie for the best fuel efficiency around the theme of how
far they can travel on one liter of gasoline. What has driven Honda in hosting
this event is our hope that young people who will build the Earth’s future will
develop greater environmental awareness by experiencing the art of making
things that enables them to try various possibilities with open-minded thinking.
