Going Green Tip of Month
WKQW 96.3 FM - 1120AM
DR. RYAN JACKSON
If you’ve been following our going green tips you will
find that most are very easy to do, and take little
effort to remember. Turn off the lights in a room you
don’t use often, don’t use water bottles but instead
drink tap water out of a glass not a paper cup, turn off
printers and computers when you’re not using them,
etc. This month’s tip is as easy: pack a waste free
lunch. This means using a reusable lunch box or bag,
storing sandwiches and chips in reusable containers,
and instead of a plastic container of yogurt, throw in
some real strawberries or blueberries! This will make
for a happy, healthy, and waste free lunch.

CASA hosts Texas Hold ’Em Poker Tournament
As a resident of Venango County and a business owner, you are understanding of the economic hardships that are plaguing our society. During
these stressful, times, it is crucial that we find ways to continue to
support each other and promote businesses such as yours. Youth
Alternatives CASA program (Court Appointed Special Advocates) has a
way we can do both by working together.
The CASA program is holding a Texas Hold 'Em Poker Tournament on
September 19, 2009 at the Oil City VFW from 1pm-?? At this event there
will be a Chinese Auction to continue fundraising efforts for the CASA
program. We are asking local business to help us support them by
donating promotional items. By donating merchandise with your company logo, such as pens, hats, t-shirts, note pads, gift certificates, and any
other merchandise that will highlight your business, you will not only
promote your business but also help raise money for the children of
Venango County. The CASA program will collect these items in a basket
with your company name shown on the front and the basket will be
displayed as part of the Chinese Auction at the Texas Hold 'Em tournament held at the Oil City VFW.
The CASA program operates through grants, fundraising, and generous
donations for the Venango County community and businesses like your
own. If you would like more information regarding this event or the CASA
program, please feel free to contact CASA director, Cinnamon Evans at
814-346-7221.

Better Together...
I was fortunate this morning
to once again be able to
meet with representatives
from across the region to
discuss how to work
together to promote our
area’s assets. This was the
6th meeting specific to how
to market the rich
concentration on Arts related businesses that
exist across the Venango Area and Oil Region.
There continue to be a wealth of ideas flowing,
punctuated by the obvious challenges faced by
all. Do we have the time, the resources, the
finances?...

Social Networking Brown Bag...
The Venango Chamber continues to take a lead
role in teaching businesses how to use Social
Media applications such as Twitter, Facebook
and YouTube. Not everyone is comfortable with
these new technologies but it is hard to deny
that they continue to grow in popularity.
Chamber members are invited to stop by the
Chamber conference room each month on the
third Wednesday at noon to participate in a
round table discussion to learn how others are
utilizing one or more of these applications...

InKrEdibleIKE offers incredible balloon art
Balloon Artist extraordinaire Isaac Grove has recently
turned the craft of twisting balloons into amazing works of
art and one of our regions newest businesses, InKrEdibleIKE.
Isaac, also works as a part-time supervisor at UPS and at the
Southside Thorne’s got into ballooning after becoming a
clown through the Scottish Rite Masonic organization.
Isaac Grove of InKrEdibleIKE balloon art, is pictured
above with a life-size lawnmower balloon he
created.
In need of a unique “clown” skill he learned how to tie
balloon animals. Isaac explains “I quickly became infatuated
with balloon art and learned that there is a lot more than
just a simple balloon dog or a giraffe. I set off to learn as
much as I could and found that there is a whole other world
when it comes to balloon art. There are conventions where
people go to have competitions with the elaborate things
they have made.” Ballooning has provided Isaac with the
opportunity to talk to people all over the world about balloons on forums and phone conversations over the Internet.
ChamberChoice HR Tip of the Month
Isaac adds “I have since
focused on being a balloon
artist rather than being a
clown. I have not given up
clowning completely, but I
now only do it for special
occasions. I plan continue
to grow my balloon
business and add new
things. Not just balloon art
but arches, columns, etc.,
while adding balloon sculptures into the mix making
every occasion special.” To

local raceways and car shows, Joe is a huge supporter of events and festival in our region. Ultra-Graph-X
has a mobile event trailer which allows them to travel throughout our region and eastern United States.

- Welcome to the 8th Annual
Cranberry Festival
The Venango Area Chamber of Commerce is
pleased to present this schedule of events for
the 2009 Cranberry Festival.
The festival is possible through the
tremendous support of our sponsors,
volunteers, and the Township of Cranberry.
Our festival brings to the community a
variety of events including: a car & motorcycle cruise-in, food vendors, arts & crafts,
demonstrating artists, clowns, outdoor
concerts, cranberry bake-off, and a festival
favorite - the Backwoods Olympics. Our
committee is most pleased to offer
children's games and activities at no cost to
the children.
We hope you will spend the day with us and
enjoy our 8th Annual Cranberry Festival.
