Bell Gardens Community Adult School
ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE/CITIZENSHIP PREPARATION
These are classes for people who speak other languages but who want to learn to speak, read,
and write in English. They also will enable students to complete requirements for permanent
residency and/or citizenship. These classes will emphasize conversation, Civics (U.S. History
and Government), reading and writing. They will be offered at six different ability levels. Levels
Beginning Low and Beginning High emphasize conversation. Levels Intermediate Low and
Intermediate High offer Civics, reading and writing, along with conversation. Levels Advanced
Low and Advanced High are primarily Civics along with more advanced reading and writing.
Students may enroll in the classes at any time either by going to one of the adult school offices
or by going directly to any of the classes and speaking to the teacher. There is no charge for
tuition, registration, books or materials. Students attending these classes will be able to be better
consumers, workers, parents, etc. In many cases, they are able to find jobs because their English
has improved. Some students use the classes as the first step towards a high school diploma or
even entrance to college. Students may move from one level to another during the same year. Free
child care is provided in the day classes for the pre-school children of the students.

EL INGLES COMO SEGUNDO IDIOMA/
PREPARACION PARA LA CIUDADANIA
Estas son clases para aquellas personas que hablan otros idiomas pero que quieren aprender
a hablar, leer y escribir el inglés. También les permitirá a los estudiantes completar los requisitos
para la residencia permanente y/o la ciudadanía. Estas clases pondrán énfasis en la conversación,
la instrucción cívica (historia y gobierno de los Estados Unidos), la lectura y la escritura. Las
clases serán ofrecidas en seis distintos niveles de habilidad. Los niveles Principiante Bajo y
Principiante Alto pondrán enfasis en la conversación. Los niveles Intermedio Bajo e Intermedio
Alto ofrecerán instrucción cívica, lectura y escritura, junto con la conversación. Los niveles
Avanzado Bajo y Avanzado Alto serán dedicados esencialmente a la instrucción cívica junto
con una lectura y escritura más avanzadas. Los estudiantes pueden registrarse para éstas clases
en cualquier momento, ya sea yendo a una de las oficinas de la Escuela para Adultos o yendo
directamente a cualquiera de las clases y hablar con el maestro o la maestra. La inscripción, los
libros y los materiales se ofrecen gratis. Los estudiantes que asistan a éstas clases podrán ser
