27 June 2010 marked the last leg of a 12-day tour charter operated by Pel-Air in Saab VH-OLM on behalf of Air Link for Bill Peach Tours.

There were massive issues to be resolved as they operate to a very
prescriptive tour itinerary and we had to organize handling and logistics
at every port. The Rex Flight Operations Engineering department had to
arrange for special approvals to operate to Oenpelli and permissions had
to be gained from the local Aboriginal land council.
As can be seen, this was quite a logistical exercise and the flight went
very well thanks to many who organized the charter – Gay Webster,
Andrea Leach, Rex Flight Operations Engineering department, Mike Allen
and his Maintenance Controller (who was awaken early on a Sunday
morning).

Rex Helps Fight Crime
ZL3684 and 3689 (Melbourne to Mildura and return) on 18 June 2010 had a group of crime-busting passengers
on board as the Operations Response Unit of the Victoria Police flew in a group of 30 to relieve 30 extra
manpower that had been stationed in Mildura for one of the biggest traffic and public order blitzes in Mildura’s
history. This is part of Operation Community that the Unit is running.
These police personnel were also involved in a murder case that occurred in Buronga the week prior.
Captain Justin Partenza, FO Jordan Moras and FA Suzanne Vowels crewed the flight and the police unit sent a
short thank you note to Rex for the good service on the flight.
This news made the front page of the Sunraysia Daily (Mildura’s very own newspaper).

David Crooke, Engineering Assistant, DPLs had some Far North
Queensland trucking fun as he travelled around the N1 & N2 route
outports in June. His job was to put in all the DPLs (Disabled Person
Lift) into the outports. As the DPLs were too large to fit on a truck,
David had to bring all the parts stacked into pallets, and build them
at the outports itself.
This whole process took him 8 days of driving around and building
the DPLs.

The Network Strategy department is headed by GM Network Strategy and Sales, Warrick Lodge. The department
designs the Rex aircraft schedules and determines the prices passengers pay by constantly analysing the Rex
performance and that of competitors.

Working for a telecommunications
company in London for a couple of
years trying to get in as much travel
around Europe as I could. Before
that, I was working for Caterpillar in
Melbourne.

I was part of the Kendell Airlines
operation, had been since May 1979.
3. Why did you decide to enter the
aviation industry?
I thought it would be interesting
especially joining Rex soon after the
company was formed.
4. What is the most challenging
aspect of your current job so far?
Dealing with things out of our control
such as actions of competitors and
airports, high fuel prices etc.

The $99.00 a week Don Kendell offered
me was twice what you got on the dole!

Keeping the revenue flowing in when the
world’s finances are crumbling.

It’s been quite good, The Chairman has
kept the business very sustainable and
we love the new office he built for us!

Bruce Reilly, Engineering Training Manager, bade farewell to Rex this week after
3 years. He will be moving to Melbourne as he takes up his new position in
CASA as Air Transport Investigator.
Rachel Newton, Engineering Administration Officer, organized a delicious caramel
and chocolate cake for Bruce. She also organized for some collective farewell
gifts of a purple hat, a purple scarf and a couple of Rex mementoes.
Bruce made a great speech as he starts his move to a new chapter in life. All

Wagga Rotary Visit
On 10 June 2010, 53 guests from The Rotary Club of Wagga Wagga visited the brand new campus of AAPA.
A talk was conducted in one classroom, followed by a tour of the campus and concluded with a dinner in the
canteen. The busy canteen kitchen did well to impress the guests with only two staff on deck.

MHS Relay for Life
Millicent High School did their part for the Cancer Council SA by participating in the Relay for Life fundraising
event on 13 and 14 March 2010. A total of $8,605 was raised. Rex contributed 2 return tickets between
Mount Gambier and Melbourne.

Hello,
I would like to leave some positive
feedback in regards to a Rex staff
member. I flew from Adelaide to Mount
Gambier last week and left my iPod on
the plane. I hadn’t even realised I’d left it
there until I received a call from Colin. He
had determined my contact details from
my seat number and given me a call. If
he hadn’t have done this, it would have
taken me a long time to work out where
I’d lost it (as I don’t use it all that often),
or worse, I would have simply lost it for
good.
It is reassuring to see this kind of honesty
and impressive to see someone make an
extra effort to return something.

way he handled the issue with the offloaded luggage. Aaron phoned as promised to keep me
